Reviews of A*Men Kryptomint

I don't like it.

I find Ice Men and Summer Flash much better for a minty A Men. Granted, these don't have mint, but they are both hesperidic, which I think works with the choco gourmand theme better than mint.
But then again I have never enjoyed mint and chocolate or coffee, so...

Inevitable there is the A*Men DNA in the background - from beginning to end that is - with the vanilla sweetness and the soft patchouli. Superimposed on this is an added layer, and this added layer changes with time.

In the top notes it is the mint that gives this flanker its name. More after dinner mint that the fresh herb itself, soft, creamy and rich, blending in very well with the vanilla. Whilst here Krypto could mean 'super' like in 'super mint', I see the mint here are embedded and hidden in the A*Men foundation blend, maybe more 'cryptic mint.'

In the heart notes the floral side is the added layer, geranium with whiffs of carnation. Towards the end the pure A*Men base eventually remains, albeit in a rather attenuated version is one compares it with the original. The similarity between his one and Ultra Zest has already been commented on.

I get moderate sillage, excellent projection, but a rather disappointing six hours of longevity on my skin.

A pleasant idea but a bit disappointing as a synthetic summery mint scent. It lacks the addition of a genuinely original and convincing element that defines the flanker so brilliantly as in, for instance, Pure Havane. Still, agreeable albeit nothing exciting. 2.75/5.

While I have never been a fan of this style fragrance, I try and keep an open mind and found I do like a few of the Pure line, i.e. Malt, Coffee and Havanne. Kryptomint however, is just a sprint in the other direction. The opening is straight up AMen and mint. If you're familiar with AMen it's not hard to imagine the fragrance. To my nose it's dreadful. After about an hour the AMen effect wears down and it becomes a semi acceptable mint - patchouli scent that gets lighter the longer you wear it. I'm certain there's a place for this, but not for me.

Thumbs way down.

The new A*Men flanker, Kryptomint, provides a different interpretation of the gourmand A*Men DNA. Kryptomint does follow alongside the more successful and celebrated Pure Malt and Ultra Zest flankers, but stands apart enough to justify its existence.

Kryptomint features a cool, creamy mint wrapped up dark chocolate (After Eight mints, for sure) from the patchouli A*Men base. Sprayed lightly, the patchouli rings out, emphasizing the darker chocolate shell. With a heavier trigger, the richness of the mint is emphasized, bringing to mind creamy minty cookies.

While the levity of the minty composition might bring to mind Ultra Zest, Kryptomint is much less sweet and doesn't have the punchy top note (as Ultra Zest's orange behaves). Overall, the two really don't compare beyond the A*Men base.

Longevity is not as good, however, compared to the phenomenal Ultra Zest. Do indulge in a few more well-placed sprays and the scent can last at least 8 hours. Projection is good for the first few hours.

For a Mugler fan like myself, Kryptomint is an easy choice. For new comers, a good option too though, for me, Ultra Zest remains the top A*Men contender.

No surprise but a disappointment. A*Men fragrances are all hyper-sweet and rich. Why did I think that mint could redeem that basic style? It does not.
The mint is very feeble, not bracing or icy. There are some vague herbal notes.
The scent doggedly settles into a dreadful synth musk that is quite headache-inducing. The tonka bean here has a vanilla tinge, to add to the torture.
Scrubber unless this sounds like your idea of fun.

Right off the bat, Kryptomint announces the presence of mint. The usual notes of chocolate and Tonka bean are there, with a more-than-usual prominence of floral thanks to the geranium and patchouli. It's pleasant in the A*Men way, but not special nor memorable, IMO.

Being a fan and owner of several A*Men flankers, I would say Kryptomint is an okay outing to get mainly for these types of wearers: 1) the strict collector of all things A*Men 2) those wanting a decidedly toned-down version of the usually bold A*Men scents, especially those trying it out for the first time. I'd even call this "A*Men Fresh" or "A*Men Light."

Doubt that I'd buy a whole bottle, but it's strictly a matter of taste and priority whether one would get A*Men Kryptomint.
