  1. Sampling Groups Part 2: How to Pack Samples to Avoid Mishaps

Basically there are two things to prevent: leaks and breakage.

    Leak prevention:

    1. Leave a bit of head space when decanting!
Liquids expand in the lower atmospheric pressure of the airplane hold, so don't fill the vial or atomizer completely, or the perfume will be forced out when it expands.

    2. Tape the caps on afterward.
The idea is to keep the cap in place so the sprayer doesn't discharge by accident. Bandage tape leaves ...

  2. How to Start a Sampling Group for Perfumes

In our desire to experience more perfumes without going broke in the process, many of us eventually buy or swap samples. But the cost of buying also adds up fast, and swapping requires that you have something the other person wants! Additionally, not everyone lives where they can test the fragrances at a store counter.

  5. A Day of Sniffing in Boston

Yesterday my daughter wanted to explore the Harvard campus, so off we went. It's my husband's vacation and the weather was perfect-- breezy and low humidity.

Since we were in Cambridge anyway, we stopped in at Colonial Drug. This is not a pharmacy, but rather a shop specializing in hard to find and European brands of perfumes, toiletries, and high quality brushes and combs. They have testers. They do not take credit cards but they do invoice and ship. (See their website for ...
