  1. Guerlain Boisé Torride: A Prediction Materialized

In August 2008, based on an entry I found in the European Community Trademarks Database, I predicted that an upcoming Guerlain fragrance would be named Bois Torride. I speculated that it would be part of the L'Art et la Matière line.

In August 2009 (you can tell I've been absent from the fragrance scene for a while, you know, finishing my law degree and such?), Perfume Shrine confirmed that the name would actually be Boisé Torride, and it would be part of the Elixirs Charnels line. ...

  2. Guerlain Elixirs Charnels: reviews

Synopsis: It seems, along with the new Homme, that Guerlain is hoping to appeal to a much broader audience with its latest releases. None of these three are quirky or unusual, none of them are at any risk of alienating anybody, but they will each definitely appeal to a large chunk of the market. So I have to wonder: why aren't they priced to appeal to a large chunk of the market? I mean, they're more expensive than the Serge Lutens exclusifs, more expensive than the Hermessences. 3. Sample glee! :D

I love it when I get perfume in the mail. Today, three packages arrived. One, a swap, with a decant of Jicky PdT, and some nice extras, including a sample of Carnal Flower. Two, a sample of Serge Noire from the lovely Helg of Perfume Shrine. And three, samples of all three Elixirs Charnels from the Guerlain boutique in Montreal! I sent them a SASE containing the necessary decanting supplies, and they very kindly answered my request. So I will have many wonderful things to sample in the next couple ...

  4. Guerlain Lavande?!?

I'm coming to realize that lavender is one of my favourite non-foody fragrance notes. So imagine my surprise when I tripped across this bottle of a vintage Guerlain EDT known simply as "Lavande." The price tag puts it well out of purchase range, especially for a blind buy, but wow... would I ever love to know what Guerlain would do with a fragrance called "Lavande"!

  5. Long-Overdue Reviews: L'Artisan Fleur de Liane and Guerlain Homme

Fleur de Liane - My apologies to the kind SA at L'Artisan in Montreal who sent me a 15ml press sample of Fleur de Liane in August. I can't satisfactorily explain why it took me this long to get around to reviewing it, but here I am! In essence, FdL is a melony/aquatic/green/floral. It starts off with the melon/aquatic notes, very fresh and clear, and eventually transitions into a kind of abstracted ideal of a white floral, tinged with green. I found it quite pleasant, and I think it's a shame it ...
