Red's Lumberyard

Redneck Perfumisto, a.k.a. Red or RP, is a certified woodaholic who was born in Kansas and never quite left. The Lumberyard, located in a small town with one stoplight and memories of a train station, brings together a group of strange characters who share Red's passion for all things fragrant. Sharing as well the internet connection in the lumberyard laboratory, you never know who's going to post something. At least, that's Red's excuse whenever law enforcement stops by for coffee and explanations.

    McGraw, Unplugged

In a sense, they're all celebrity fragrances. At one extreme, giants like Chanel no.5 - brands so big, they're measured not in one celebrity, or multiple celebrities, but multiple celebrities over time. Think of the iconic no.5 as having a celebrity bandwidth of 10 Paris Hilton units. At the other extreme, a niche perfumer like Goutal, or a perfumer-wrangler ...

Those who loose the Dogs of War
Shall rue the day for evermore.
But bearing rue, the Herb of Grace,

Today we ponder the Scent of Peace and the Dogs of War. But not necessarily in that order.

One of the joys of marriage is playing Cassandra. Spouses ...

    Basenoting on a Palm Prē

I wonder if it is simply because this is a fragrance website that somebody with a Palm Prē as their avatar stands out. People use a lot of things as their avatars, but not many cell phones make the grade - especially around here. I was a bit worried about our friend Stereotomy when he began using a Palm Prē as his avatar. I was especially fearful that we might be losing a Basenoter to those evil things called "outside interests".

    Well, ...

  4. A Redneck By Any Other Name

If maintaining redneck status were as simple as listening to country stations, I suppose we would all be rednecks. And though, in a sense, we are - considering that we all have our privately provincial moments in whatever cultures we happen to belong to - there are degrees. It's one thing to spend time in the French countryside. It's another thing to live there, walk home dead drunk, and sleep it off while the dog barks and the wife yells. There are - clearly - cultural invariants which I still ...
