  1. wednesday

Clarins Eau des Jardins - Lovely! A bit soapy as it dries but still a v. pleasant experience.

Origins Ginger Essence - Nice, but not as fun as I'd hoped. A bit sour in the middle.

For the third time, Acqua di Gioia - Becomes more headache-enducing every time I try it.

Second try, Creed Fleur de Thé Rose Bulgare - Eh. Open is refreshing but it's just soapy rose in the end. When it comes to roses I've tried, this falls dead last.

  2. with Fabiola

A few impressions from the Nordstrom perfume counters:

Original Vetiver - Um, I never knew this was so freaking SPANKTACULAR. Absolutely my type of fragrance: top is bright and gingery, middle is buttery iris root/sandalwood, and the end is smoother-than-smooth Haitian vetiver. I feel like it's the love child of Sienne l'Hiver, Eau Premiere, and Encre Noire, which is possibly why I responded so well to it.

Selection Verte - Deliciously herbaceous/minty middle softens ...
  3. recent

Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia - The pear open is nice when hanging around, then disappears under a grip of perfumey freesia. Eh.

Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia - Enjoyed the watery sourness of it and is thankfully not too floral. More interesting than Fleur de Liane which seems to be aiming for same category. Like the recent Balenciaga, it's perfectly nice and wearable without being totally dull. (Though, it's a little bit dull.)
  4. late summer '10 short cuts

Delrae Coup de Foudre - It's really nice (though ending is lackluster) but for the money they're asking I'd rather buy a Rosine.
Chanel Bois des Iles - Dry sandalwood, doesn't last on me. Not bad but not ~revelatory~ or anything.
TDC Bois d'Iris - Holy christ baby powder.
Guerlain Vetiver pour Elle - Starts off lovely with florals smoothing out that bitter vetiver edge, but then the bitterness takes over anyway, so really there's no need to own ...

  5. the rain in spain

Something about rained-in January evenings triggers that "must smell new and amazing things" thing in me. And here I'd thought I'd gotten tired of this hobby! Oh me of little faith.

Am now on a gourmand kick, which is a little dismaying since like a true hipster nerd I scoffed at this category for being too ~eager to please~. This is a huge category with many subcategories, so I look forward to exploring. Just sprayed some Fresh Cannabis Santal on my forearms. Ha! ...
