Over the past 3-4 years, my project of sampling the world of cheap colognes for quality has resulted in finding several that are nearly identical to popular and more expensive fragrances. I thought I might share some of these findings with the BN community:
Yacht Man Metal is identical to Chanel Allure Homme Sport
Thallium Sport is identical to Happy by Clinique
AB Spirit Millionaire is very similar to Azzaro 1 Million (no surprise there)
Lomani is very similar to Drakkar
It must be admitted that a large portion of my fragrance hobby is an attempt to find scents that are attached to the most powerful moments and moods of my youth. I found this Andy Warhol comment on Scentbird's website regarding the experience of perfume:
"I switch perfumes all the time. If I've been wearing one perfume for three months, I force myself to give it up, even if I still feel like wearing it, so whenever I smell it again it will always remind me of those three months.
In my Yacht Man reviews, Metal is up next, This is a very brave and potent woody citrus. Initially, it reminded me of the original formulation (1980s) of Chanel's Antaeus, but now I realize that it is almost identical to Allure Sport Homme. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it begins disappearing between the bottle and your skin. In order to achieve any type of lasting scent, I had to apply 4x the amount of a regular fragrance. Even then, the best duration I could accomplish was around 20-30 minutes.
The scent itself is very pleasant; a soft mix of lily, iris,

To date, I have purchased 4 of these and have loved 3 of them unreservedly. The Yacht Man scents are often maligned on basenotes and the contempt seems to begin because of the extremely low prices of these scents ($6-$7 per bottle). Other fragrances in that price range are usually not even worth that amount. Many complaints are made about the poor longevity and projection, and these are valid; Yacht Man scents dissolve down to skin level in 15-30 minutes and disappear altogether by an hour. To combat
