Retro galore featuring safe and earth-friendly alternativesJune 12, 2005 Bette(East Coast USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Copyright 1975, Plummer's book showcases natural recipes for everything that is so "chic" these days: homemade soaps, baths, colognes, incense, powders, waters, insect repellants, etc. Great as a recipe reference and for lovers of antique books. Illustrated, with a glossary. The short source list, while obviously obsolete, shows how long it has taken for us to get with the "natural living" program. Plummer's book dedication is "To our sweet-smelling EARTH - may it survive the foolishness of man." (PS-There are no hazardous ingredients mentioned in this book. Lye is used in making ALL soaps, whether homemade or purchased at the grocery store or even the health food store.)
An informative book on what has been done - good historyApril 20, 2000 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this book interesting, becasue it describes how this field has evolved from where it was to where it is today. I have not tried any of the receipies, bur I found the ideas behind it facinating.
irresponsible use of potentially dangerous ingredientsJanuary 20, 1999 14 out of 18 found this review helpful
Plummer's book may have been excusable when published, although I doubt it. Her use of hazardous, toxic and phototoxic ingredients makes this the last book on the subject that anyone should consider buying. There are many better books on the subject available, so save your money!
