Last month Basenotes had a little sneak peek into Santa's sack, courtesy of Modus PR, who created a very perfumed beauty event for UK high street giant, Marks and Spencer
For winter 2012 the department store is offering its customers a whole range of new brands, products and consumer incentives to promote its new Your Beauty departments in store. Of particular interest to us is the bumper crop of fragrance offerings, some familiar, others completely new. Here we take a look at some of the names that will be represented in the coming months.
M & S approached Miller Harris
' Lyn Harris for a range of fragrances and candles
that would be exclusive to the Your Beauty department. The brand explains "Lyn was very excited to bring beautiful perfumes to a wider audience. Three are designed with women in mind, three with men in mind, but really it is all about personality". La Rose
and La Fleur
are as floral and light as Le Noir
and Le Sauvage
are spicy and dark. La Poudrée
and Le Cologne
offer a more neutral counter balance for the feminine and the masculine offerings. Candles will also be available in some of the scents in one large size with approximately 40 hours burn time or as a set of three mixed fragranced, smaller candles.
Comptoir Sud Pacifique
also make an appearance on the floor with their range, designed to be mixed and matched by olfactory family. Aqua Motu
, one of the best sellers of the range was spritzed liberally around at the event, revealing a salty, ozonic burst with a slightly woody base. The brand offer fragrances categorised as fresh, floral, gourmand and woody. They encourage spritzing two of the scents of your choice together to "create your own bespoke fragrance."
are also nestled in the new Your Beauty departments in three stores, with plans for roll out later in the year. With their Italian heritage stretching back to 1869 this skincare and fragrance range are presented in simple white packaging with traditional black script. White Moss
is one of their unisex best sellers.
offers a risqué hit of French flounce on the terribly English shelves. Lingerie designer Thomas uses her background in the creation of the scents and look of the packaging, such as Classic Eau De Parfum
with its stocking seam and black, sheer garter wearing, leg-shaped bottle.
More French fragrance comes to M & S shoppers in the shape of Berdoues
, who have been making perfumes in Toulouse since 1902. With their very traditional bottles, with puff atomisers and hat box shaped packaging, they could be straight from another era. The fragrances themselves are traditional and floral, although some have a modern twist.
was also created in France, in the home of modern perfumery, Grasse. Making fragrance since 1926, the packaging is none the less fairly modern and very floral and feminine. The brand have a museum and a school in Grasse where one can go to learn more about the history and current creation methods of fragrance.
Other brands included in the new beauty halls are: Monotheme
, Venetian scents based around one specific note; Acorelle, who offer organic and hypoallergenic scents; Laurence Dumont's
Les Scenteurs Gormand, which all feature Vanilla hearts; and of course M & S' own ranges which include Autograph, Florentyna
, Per Una
and Limited Collection.
As well as scenting the body with perfume, there are many scented bath, body and home products on offer, such as new British Brand Cowley Manor. Cowley Manor's creations are inspired by the hotel of the same name in The Cotswolds. Among other products they produce reed diffusers in scents to relax or invigorate.
The roll out of Your Beauty departments at M & S started in May this year and will continue across the UK in 2013 and then internationally, beginning with Poland, Prague and Jordan. The products are also available at Marks and Spencer's online store.
