• New look for Penhaligon's Regent Street store

Penhaligon's is to relaunch its flagship Regent Street boutique with a new design inspired by the Beaux Arts style for which the street is famous. Designed by Christopher Jenner, London, the new design mixes "classic Edwardian splendour with thoroughly modern design details including purple padded walls reminiscent of chesterfield sofas and ceiling roses inspired by Westminster Cathedral".

Sarah Rotheram, CEO of Penhaligon's says:

“Our Regent Street boutique was a blank canvas and a flagship location that has allowed us to be bolder in our interpretation of the brand. The street has some fantastic retail concepts; therefore we needed something that would make us standout. Christopher Jenner has created a world that reflects our decades of heritage and our contemporary approach to perfumery and design.”

The design embraces the eccentricity of the Edwardian era with unique fittings such as glossy Brighton Pavilion onion dome chandeliers, extensive marquetry panelling and handcrafted furniture reflecting the shape of Penhaligon's bottles.

Christopher Jenner says of the collaboration: “Working with Penhaligons is a dream; this project affords us an opportunity to explore our jaunty design personality in the creation of an iconic space on the world famous Regent Street.”

The store will re-open in January next year.

Again, the strategy seems to be style over substance. Nice packaging (or premises) is just not enough.
