• A Basenotes Inspired Fragrance

I imagine the Basenotes fragrance as green, unisex and suitable for people of all age groups.

It was inspired by the Basenotes website: its English origins and green colouring, and the idea of a picnic in a park. It would smell like grass, trees, rose bushes and what's in the picnic basket.

If I had to mention an already existing scent to give an example of what kind of scent I have in mind, it would be Olivia Giacobetti's (for Editions de parfums Frederic Malle) En Passant, which smells like wet lilac trees and freshly baked bread.

The Basenotes scent would smell like an English garden and five o'clock tea: cucumber sandwiches, tea, scones, cream and jam. The emphasis would be on the green, lush notes, the sweet elements being more fleeting. The backbone of the scent would be woody and earthy.

I imagine the ad would be a version of Manet's Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe.

This has some notes in common with a Paris flanker I enjoy wearing from time to time, Paris Jardins Romantiques: roses, grass, lilac. PJR has sandalwood in the base.

I'm intrigued by the bread notes but am not sure how they would smell with the florals; I've sampled En Passant but don't recall its smelling bread-like.

      I would try this.
