• Penhaligon's release Tralala for Meadham Kirchhoff

This April Penhaligon’s will release Tralala, a new fragrance inspired by designers Meadham Kirchhoff.

Meadham Kirchhoff’s shows have been scented by Penhaligon’s for the past nine seasons, with fragrances including Hammam Bouquet, Bluebell, Castile, English Fern and Cornubia. Tralala, described by Penhaligon’s as ‘an opulent, hedonistic blend’, was created by Bertrand Duchaufour, who visited the designers’ East London studio for inspiration.

Meadham Kirchhoff was founded in London in 2007 by Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff. The brand won the Emerging Talent: Ready-to-Wear award at the British Fashion Awards in 2010 and were nominated for the British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund for 2012.

The ‘counter culture couture’ of Tralala opens with notes of saffron, whiskey, ambrette seed, galbanum and green violet, with a heart of carnation, orris, tuberose, ylang ylang, incense and leather, finishing with a base of resins, balsams, patchouli, vetiver, cedarwood, musk, vanilla and a powdery note of heliotrope.

Tralala will launch exclusively at Harvey Nichols on the 21st of April, at £150 for 100ml eau de parfum. A more widespread UK launch at Penhaligon’s boutiques and online at www.penhaligons.com is scheduled for 5th May.

Update: Head of Marketing for Penhaligon's, Matthew Huband, has posted in the comments clarifying the origin of the name:
We'd just like to clarify that the name Tralala is simply an innocent and musical expression which reflects the fragrance. The perfume is rich, whimsical and nostalgic in Penhaligon's best tradition, as you'd expect.

I guess its aimed towards a female demographic. I think I'd be mildly embarrassed if I got complimented on wearing this and had to say I was wearing Tralala

I have not seen the film but I have read the book - which is seared into my memory - and I assure you the character of Tralala is one of the darkest and most hopeless in the history of literature. Her death is devastating and one of the many reasons the book was banned for many years. As much as I am intrigued by the notes at the moment all I can do is look at the name and the bizarre childish puppet head and say WTF?

Mr. Huband - I have the greatest respect for Penhaligons and it's long tradition in the perfume world.
However, this particular launch seems to have contradictory messages being presented to the media. The quote from Meadham Kirchoff - featured I believe in Cosmopolitan - seems to leave no doubt that the perfume was inspired by the character Tralala in the film of Last Exit to Brooklyn. Personally why they would want to associate this or indeed any product with an addicted streetwalker whose life is ended in a horrific orgy of sexual violence is beyond me - but I would have a talk with them before the negative publicity reaches a bigger audience.

Nice notes, but what an utterly silly bottle. It looks like it's made for a girl of 13.

I dislike the use of Penhaligon's ribbons on the bottles, and really wish they would use glass stoppers/caps like Chanel does.

I enjoy Penhaligon's scent (Iris Prima, Endymion, Amaranthine, Hammam Bouquet, Blenheim Bouquet) but I wish the presentation was better.
