Alexander McQueen found dead in his home
Fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead in his home this morning. He was 40 years old.
Alexander McQueen, born Lee McQueen in 1969, began his fashion career at 16 as an apprentice in Savile Row tailors Anderson and Shepherd. After working at Koji Tatsuno and Romeo Gigli, McQueen took over from John Galiano as Givenchy's head designer where he stayed until 2001. McQueen's first fragrance, Kingdom, was launched in 2003, followed by MyQueen in 2005.
A statement from his company said: "On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family. Lee's family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this."
