Coty announced on Monday that it was withdrawing its $10.7bn bid on Avon after two months of pursuit. In a letter to Avon's board, Coty chairman Bart Becht said "While we have waited patiently, Avon's Board has now had more than two months to consider whether to engage in discussions and permit us to conduct due diligence ... I find it remarkable that since we made our revised proposal, and despite repeated requests over the last 24 hours, no one from Avon's Board or management has been willing to speak with us ... your total lack of engagement with us leads us to believe that you remain reluctant to explore a friendly, negotiated combination on a reasonable timetable. Two months is enough. Consequently, as our deadline to begin discussions expired today, our proposal is withdrawn".

Jo Malone has unveiled the latest scent in their permanent collection. Blackberry & Bay cologne is due to be released in September 2012. The company lists the notes as grapefruit, blackcurrant bud, galbanum, lily of the valley, jasmine, vetiver and cedarwood. The perfume is said to have been inspired by 'childhood memories of blackberry picking...stained lips, sticky palms.'

To mark the ten year anniversary of Jennifer Lopez's JLo Glow, Coty have launched Glowing. The new fragrance was created by Calice Asancheyev-Becker and Caroline Sabas, and was inspired by the smell of Jennifer Lopez' favourite scented candle. The bottle features an innovative technology that gives it the ability to actually light up and "glow" when you spray it.

Chanel have announced Brad Pitt as the new face for Chanel No. 5. No further details from Chanel, but other reports say that filming begins in London this week. Pitt is the first male face for the fragrance, but joins other previous celebrity faces for the iconic perfume such as Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tatou and Marilyn Monroe.
