Fragrance Review: Diptyque Geranium Odorata

Diptyque’s Geranium Odorata is a very simple composition. After the briefest of bright bergamot top notes, it reveals a very soapy, green geranium note, supported by little more than some discreet woods and a clean white musk. The scent is linear, fading rather than developing, until all that remain are traces of abstract woods and a skin musk that might be at home in a household product or bath amenity. The composition, if one may call it that, feels incomplete at best, and I would much prefer it in a candle, a room spray, or a bar of soap, than as a personal fragrance. Pelargonium (scented geranium) aficionados may find more to love in this fragrance than I do, but I remain unmoved.
