Reviews Update!

Rate this Entry
The review section has been completely recoded from the ground up. This is to make them compatible with the new site's backend. The recoding of the site should mean that things are less intensive on the server, leading to less crashing. There is also a new Reviews tab on the main menu so you can easily access the latest review.

Main changes

  • You can now edit your reviews. There is a limit on how many edits you can have, but you get extra edits if you are a Basenotes Plus member.
  • You can hide reviews if you wish, so no need for all that 'this review is under revision' gubbins.
  • You are now able to 'report' reviews that may have slipped through the net.

Bugs

If you come across any bugs, please report them here

Note

You won't be able to add new reviews until the new directory pages are up and running, which (should) be later today

    O.K. Only questions, no answers.
This page is unuseable. There is fragrantica.com for free and super.
    I leave this site.

    Bye

Too slow to post new reviews for non-premium members or just not show up period. I understand there's certain guidelines and you want to maintain the integrity of the review system, but if you don't want to take the time then don't even offer the service.

5 weeks now and my reviews haven't shown up. That seems a long time...

I switched to fragrantica, the only reason i still have a profile on here is because the owner or something thought it'd make me stay if he just posted all of mine. Seems like the only real way to get anything done around here on this shitty site.

it takes ages! And anytime you edit a previous review it desappears for monthes (unless you're a premium member). It's not confortating at all.

I agree with this. It should be yes contribute or no you can't. I don't see the point in only half welcoming reviews from forum members - after all, it enriches the site hugely. I don't understand... why make it so difficult?

It isn't hard. Use a language filter and have the members themselves report any abuses such as spamming. Everything else is a persons own opinion and if it pertains to the review of the fragrance it should be posted within 48 hours at the latest. If he would cut the fee of being a basenote plus member by 2/3rd's a lot more people would join. What he's charging now is ridiculous considering what is being offered for the price. BTW I've had my reviews setting for over 2 months now and I'm not bothering anymore as I'll just go into the forums and ask for opinions. Problem solved.

it's a long story! I had quite an argumentwith a few basenoters on this issue. It's getting frustrating.

I agree. I did consider membership but it didn't look like much at all for the money. There wasn't a big enough carrot.

No way! Paying to post in real-time a review of a perfume that I bought? No Way!

I do think it's a big shame if the problem submitting reviews is putting off enthusiastic forum members. It really should be sorted out pronto.

Regrading the membership fee - it does seem high compared to the various music forums I also contribute to. Simply paying a fee just to avoid frustration is not a sufficient incentive for contributers and reviewers, in my opinion.

I'm getting used to it as it seems nobody cares about it. Believe me Spoombung, I had some arguments in the past about this...I've been posting over 300 reviews in the last couple of monthes.

Fragrantica's setup is so much nicer and user friendly fragrance website. Not to mention it's 10 times faster. I'll use Basenotes as a forum which is all it's good for.

That's true... but you get people who think that Muscs Koublai Khan smells EXACTLY like Body Shop White Musk for men.

    Hi Grant -
I put on a review of Hope by Denney - I decided that I really do like it and want to give it a positive review - I want to remove my neutral or thumbs down review.... I sent a revised/edited review an hour or so ago.
Love your site - most of the members are amazingly gifted writers!
