As I went through purchasing my samples on Luckyscent (for my upcoming birthday), I wondered: why do we like the fragrances we do? Why have I bought a sample of Mure et Musc Extreme and Costume National 21 around 3 times each now, and on the other hand completely despised the vast majority of what I've bought before? The noob who doesn't know much about fragrances may want to buy fragrances that smell exactly like MeM and CN21, I on the other hand wish to understand the reason BEHIND why I enjoy it. Imagine being able to just know why you like a fragrance. At this point I don't think I ever will, because a lot of my best discoveries were just fortuitous guesses. Why do I like Candies for Men (if this was simply a bit less sweet and much less synthetic, ohh man) and not Mitsuoko? Why does it seem I'm indifferent about 99% of the heavy hitters, while 99% of the fragrances I adore are the ones that seem to attract no attention? Everything about me is middle of the road. I don't like the fragrances that are almost too interesting to wear, and I of course don't like the fragrances that are so simple it smells like thousands of others; accessible niche and well made designer. That's about all I've figured out thus far.
