Welp, I got try them all out now! Acqua di Sale is somewhat of a disappointment. Normally that'd be a bad thing, but considering it's $240 for a bottle, I'm quite happy that I don't like it. It's meant to evoke the feeling of the ocean, but it more or less smells sickly and much like something you'd use to clean a floor with. Maybe with a bit of a lime skittle note. Definitely not for me. From my last sample haul, I got a sample of Sel Marin which I feel is FAR more successful. Not only that, it's almost $100 cheaper!
Molecule 1 is quite interesting, as I expected. Many people have said that it sort of floats around you rather undetected (save for a few wafts every now and then), but everyone around you can smell it loud and clear. Well, from what I could tell, I still smell it rather clearly! But since it's just Iso E Super, it's a bit simple. I do enjoy it, but I'm really looking forward to wearing it in a big group of people to see if it gets any reaction.
Guerilla 2 is only the second Commes des Garcons fragrance I've tried. The first one was a huge disappointment, being an overly sweet and sickly rose scent (Series 2:Red). This one is definitely better than that, but I'm still not impressed. All I get is a slightly sweet, slightly fruity, slightly spicy, and slightly floral fragrance. Everything seems to be in equal parts, so it really isn't anything interesting. I haven't lost hope with them yet, considering how many fragrances they have. I mean come on, there's some based off of incense, some based off of sherbet, and their Odeur fragrances as well. I think I may give a few of the incense series a sniff, as well as a few others. Especially 2, 2 Man, 3, 888, Dover Street Market, White, Zagorsk, Avignon, and Ouarzazate.
Havana Vanille may be my favorite sample of the bunch. I get sort of a smooth boozy honeyed tobacco/vanilla fragrance, sprinkled with spice and accented with some kind of fruit notes. It smells rich and deep, but also strangely waxy. It reminds me of Serge Lutens' Un Bois Vanille with its beeswax note, but a bit more creamy. It's not really that foody, which is nice, and never gets too sweet, which I thought it might. However it won't beat my favorite honeyed tobacco scent: By Kilian's Back to Black.
The last sample I got, Sweet Redemption, was actually a free one. I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, I can't say I'm impressed. It's pretty much a straight forward Orange Blossom fragrance with quite a bit of sweetness and creaminess. It's not bad, but I've tried my fair share of Orange Blossom scents and don't see this one as having much of a leg up on the others I've smelled. PASSSSSSS.
