Shipping Fragrances

Rate this Entry
There are some regulations which have been on the books for years, that are only recently being enforced. It is illegal to ship flammable liquids internationally because they are put in cargo planes. When you purchase postage for your international package, you are generally asked if it contains liquid, flammable, or hazardous materials. Since EdT, Perfume, etc. contains a large amount of alcohol, the answer should be "yes"
Great Brittan's Royal Mail just announced that they would not be allowing fragrances to be shipped internationally anymore. There is some confusion as to whether commercial businesses can, and things are a mass of confusion there. The best thing to do is to be honest at the post office, let them know amount and type. I have been told directly that I cannot ship even a 1ml sample vial over-seas, but further investigation is needed because others have been told that it is "ok" to ship small amounts. United States Postal Service website clearly states that "aerosols and Perfumes that contain alcohol" are prohibited to be shipped internationally. While it seems ridiculous to deny a 1ml vial of cologne to be transported by plane, if you are found to be lying on a customs form there are penelties ranging from fines to imprisonment...
For now, ground shipments of perfumes in the United States is still permitted.
Royal Mail states Any closed cup flash point below 60.5 degrees C is prohibited EVEN from ground transport. That would include virtually all perfumes and colognes.

In U.K., only Royal Mail will not currently ship overseas, but other carriers are available to large businesses on contract.
Ormond Jayne, for example, have made alternative arrangements and may ship overseas.

is there any alternative for individuals, too? or Is it just hopeless to get a perfume from UK?

    Hi Veroniche!
Individuals may try to ship by Royal Mail, but may be prosecuted as it is against our regulations and will probably have their goods destroyed.
At the moment, other shippers are too expensive for individuals to use.
Some larger businesses can use other shippers under contract.
If the situation changes in the future, will post update here.

Aww, I apologize for numerous postings, it was probably caused by connection failure. and thank you for your information. I have already had one item caught and being destroyed. but as it was a perfumed face and body powder, no liquid. I assume it was nothing against new regulations and it shouldn't have been taken and destroyed.

So sorry to hear that, safer to wait until the situation improves.
If you have trouble with the page loading when you hit the 'post' or 'reply' button, just wait & it will eventually get there!
