Guerlain at full retail, hoping for an experience

Rate this Entry
I decided to buy Habit Rouge. I decided to go to the Guerlain boutique at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. It seems to function as the main Guerlain shop here. Jicky and some others are only available at this shop. So I thought if I went there, I could try Jicky and also had some hopes for some kind of freebie. Looking around in the hotel, I couldn't see anything Guerlain, so I went to the newer tower next door. There, a receptionist told me Guerlain was on the fourth floor. This turned out to be the spa, but I asked for men's frag, and they were very helpful. I shelled out about $100 for the HR!! Then I said, Can I try some Jicky? The SA said, Oh, that is in the main shop. Finally I found out where the main shop was. The SA there was very friendly, and in addition to Jicky, I also tried L'Heure Bleue. I took a spray of Jicky on my hand, worrying about whether people would be annoyed as I rode the train home. I also asked about SDV, but she said they were waiting for an order. There were lots of other things I wanted to try, but I was running out of skin, and I was getting fragrance fatigue (I am interested in Iris Genache, several of the Aqua Allegorias etc.) Well, at least I got my beloved HR in a very nice Guerlain box and bag. However, my freebie was cleansing milk! I can't help but wonder whether buying the HR in the main shop instead of the spa might have gotten me a frag sample instead of a cleanser.

Ha Ha--great article. I'm going to the Guerlain Boutique in Toronto, Canada-tommorow. I hope that I'll get lots of samples and encounter very nice sales people. I'm going to wear a halter top-just so that I don't run out of skin. Thank you!!!

Well, I hope you had a great time. Maybe you got more samples than I did.

The people at the Guerlain shop were aloof and not at all helpful. They were doing makeovers and serving wine and little sandwiches to women dressed in black. So, I just bought my bottle of Rose Barbare and left. On the other hand--at Sephora down the road-I bought Serge Lutens' Fleur D'oranger and they gave me 4 very generous samples of other Lutens fragrances. The ironic thing is that the Guerlain shop knew that I was coming in from out of town--if they had spent more time with me-I probably would have bought another fragrance.

I didn't get any samples either-but I had a great time. We went to Sephora and they gave me samples. I bought perfume at both places.

I am grateful that the SAs here have been unfailingly polite and helpful, regardless of the store or brand. On the other hand, the prices are out of sight. Also, the product lineup is very small in the case of Guerlain. They don't have Rose Barbare here. What is it like?

Hi tszumi--I can't describe it yet because yesterday, I tried on so many perfumes. All I remember is that it was glorious. So, today or tommorow, I'll try it on by itself and let you know.
