I may be entering fragrance retail. I may be starting the first crowdfunded fragrance retailer in the world. But I am not new to fragrance - or to Basenotes. In 2001, I got my first regularly-worn fragrance, Acqua di Gio. Three years later, I joined Basenotes under the username MFfan310. A year later, I moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, my home to this day.
Reactions have been mixed. Some have called it the best addition to the UKís perfumery scene for years. Others have said that itís pointless, unwelcoming and pretentious. But differing views aside, it seems reasonable to conclude that Harrodsí Salon De Parfums - which opened its doors in mid-October 2014 - has made quite an impression. Everyone whoís seen it has strong views on it. And those who havenít yet seen it are eager to do so.

For Netherlands-base Hiram Green, natural oils arenít a luxury, theyíre a necessity. Green, who is a self-taught perfumer, took more than a decade tinkering with essential oils until the release of Moon Bloom in 2013. The perfume was an instant success, and gave Green the confidence to launch Shangri La, a perfume conjures up James Hiltonís famous paradise, a year and a half later.
