Eau de Azilde

This fragrance idea starts with the scent of deep and dark secrets of a powerful and wealthy family named the Van Ryn. They are the original Dutch male patrons that goes back to 1630. The Van Ryns are well educated and regarding as the finest family who are heirs to a huge dark but beautiful gothic manor that sits atop the hillside of the Hudson River in Upstate New York.

The fragrance has top notes of incense smoke, wood smoke, frankincense, clove and sandalwood. This indicates the power and dark secrets that have lived in the manor called Dragonwyck for many centuries. The heart notes belong to a beautiful southern belle from New Orleans named, Azilde Marie de la Courbet who met and married Pietr Van Ryn in the 18th century and together they inherited Dragonwyck.

Pietr Van Ryn's only determination was to have a male heir to carry on the family name and manor. Azilde gave birth to a son, but shortly that child died. Pietr who eventually began angry and violent toward Azilde resorted in Azilde commiting suicide in her vast bedroom where her portraits hangs. According to the household servants before she died, Azilde vowed to never leave Dragonwyck and make the lives of the Van Ryn heirs suffer.

The heart notes are a representation of Azilde who was a beautiful and innocent young woman who married for love but became bitter. the notes are very sweet and a representation of her New Orleans culture with Tea Olive, Vertivert, White Gardenia, Orange Blossom and Vanilla. Finally, the base notes are to harmonize what life should have been for Azilde as mistress of Dragonwyck with Rose Celecte, Wood Violet, Jasmine, Magnolia and Lily of the Valley.

My fragrance is an inspiration with a book written by Anya Seton in 1944 called 'Dragonwyck'. Two years later that book was made into a movie starring Vincent Price and Gene Tierney in 1946. I was inspired by the character of Azilde who in the movie was never shown as an actual person but her memory and her presence in the Dragonwyck manor was alive and well and especially to the pure bloods of the Van Ryns. Azilde had a very beautiful singing voice and she loved to play the harpsicord in the music room which was known as the 'Red Room'.

The fragrance starts with notes of spice and dark rustic flavor but in the center burst with the sweetness and smooth texture of the heart notes mentioned and then later within 30 minutes to one hour and harmonization to tie it all together with base notes that should capture the essence of this gothic romantic feature.

It is not until the 19th century does Azilde soul rest in peace when the last domineering Van Ryn male dies and no more sounds late in the night of Azilde singing and playing the harpsicord from the hereafter in the 'Red Room'.

I see the color red (Azilde always played in the 'Red Room') but the fragrance sits in a beautiful and elegant gothic bottle that will adorn any dresser and the London Symphony Orchestra playing the overture in the epic that brings this beautiful fictional literature to life in the 21st century with a scent that targets women between the ages of 18-45 years.

[In the advertising] I would have Azilde staring out the window of the 'Red Room' in this massive manor out to the roaring waters of the Hudson River but just beyond the Hudson River, Azilde sees the beautiful and lush gardens of New Orleans filled with flowers, small boutiques and the pleasant surroundings of the south during the 18th century.

This fragrance as a story that represents such fine craftsmanship as does the House of Creed fragrances that has been existence for over 200 years.
