Le Roi Santal by Comptoir Sud Pacifique

A very nice woodsy tropical santal, whose creamy texture makes me salivate. It starts off nutty, which is where the "tropical" comes from, but upon dry-down becomes smoother and the wood projects more. Beautiful fragrance, but lasts only two hours on my skin. You really need to reapply, but with a 5oz bottle for $40, its worth it.

Vétyver Haiti by Comptoir Sud Pacifique

I must say that its not my cup of tea, but I can see the attraction. It has a drydown that is tonka, vetiver and lots of rum. It's sort of a dirty grungy smell which reminds me of rainy weather in a third-world tropical beach town. As scenteur7 said, "boozey" is accurate.

Narciso Rodriguez for Her by Narciso Rodriguez

I must say that I was shocked by the beauty of this fragrance. Not only is this a high quality frag, I smells like a real rose not an interpretation of what rose smells like. Very classy.

Narcisse Noir by Caron

I smelled this when shopping with my sister. I recognized the Caron house name and had heard great things. My sister hated it but I, on the other hand, love it. It smells exactly like opium (the drug) in the drydown. Very musky, vulgar, delicious scent that makes you want to close your eyes and let "the lady" hold you close.

Unforgivable by Sean John

While I agree that this is blatant copy of MI, I must say it is superior in terms of longevity and sillage. That said, it not as as high quality a scent, but at least i can tell 30 minutes after application.

Original Vetiver by Creed

The first time I smelled this, I didn't like it. For some reason I crave the sent now and would willing shell out the cash for it, but for the longevity and sillage. I've tried to like Guerlain's Vetiver and just can't; it has this smoky base to it I can stand. In contrast, this is a very fresh zesty green vetiver, that just doesn't last. You would need to constantly shower in this stuff to retain any sent. Like most things truly beautiful, it's fleeting. As for the mugler cologne comparisons, i don't sense it. Mugler is like doing your laundry, while OV is going on a fox hunt in the english countryside.

Gucci Pour Homme II by Gucci

I had a chance to sample this at nordstroms, and i have to say it smells nice. Its difficult to place though, because its so weak. You would literally have to bathe in it to have any enduring sillage. Too bad.

Virgin Island Water by Creed

I smell this at Neiman Marcus and really enjoyed it. The sales associate said, "It's a vacation in a bottle." I would have to agree. Some will find it to generic smelling but i thought it was coconuty and reminiscent of the beach, without being to overwhelming.

Z by Ermenegildo Zegna

I purchased this cologne before having discovered this very informative site. Despite the bad reviews, I still would have purchased this fragrance. Some see it as unimaginative, but I thinks its classy.

L'Eau D'Issey pour Homme by Issey Miyake

Despite some objections to the flowery character provided by the vanilla, I find this scent intoxicating. Its uniqueness within a class of fragrance that seem all alike really speaks to its character. Really, it comes down to the individual preference, but if you are shopping within this category, this is a no-brainer.
