Sables by Annick Goutal

This has been compared to some SL fragrances. I agree: Sables is what Chergui really wanted to be when it grew up. Syrupy and all that? Yes, at first, but with such exquisite depth and nuance.

Cèdre by Serge Lutens Les Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido

I really like this one; it reminds me of those French ladies who went off to the colonies with the 'civilizing mission' and stayed forever. Bought a decant but don't know if I'll ever wear it--it feels a little subversive, like I'm cross-dressing if I do anything more than put it on the back of my hand for my own enjoyment and I'm normally not one to worry about convention. For women over forty, definite thumbs up. For men, test and decide.

Chergui by Serge Lutens Les Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido

No hay or leather, etc for me (sigh.) Just expensive Syrup. Gum. Resin. Wax. Unguents. melted ice-cream. Messiah-annoiting oil, perhaps. Lingering and rich and, if you are at all heavy handed, oppressive. It will grow on me no doubt but when even the decants are expensive, I want easier gratification.
Glad I just got the decant.
