Platinum Égoïste by Chanel
Reading the reviews, people seem to get really excited about PE.
When I tried it first at some drugstore, I thought I made a mistake en sprayed a women's perfume on my wrist...The only thing I could smell was alcohol and flowers, and it gave me a headache.
Be sure to try before you buy; this is probably a smell you'll love or hate. (And I hate it...)

Hoggar by Yves Rocher
Very, VERY pleasant stuff! Starts fresh (bergamot) and developes into a smooth combination of chocolate, coffee and vanilla (tonkabean). But very subtle, not in a "smells edible"-way.
One of the nicest fragrances I ever smelled!
Comes in a simple bottle in a nice box with a picture of the Hoggar-desert.
Quality compared to price (no money!) is maybe the best one can get.

Terre d'Hermès by Hermès
Very distinctive and original, but I don't like it at all.
GAIVS IVLIVS CAESAR wrote that it smells like a smoker who just peeled an orange, and that's a superb description!
The combination of orangepeel and ashtray reminds me of the content of a garbage can. Sorry, but that's nauseating to me.

Ferré for Him by Gianfranco Ferré
I recently bought the Ferre for Him aftershave and it already has become my favourite. IMO, it's high class stuff. It's a very modest fragrance, doesn't shout out its smell, but accompanies you for hours, in a silent way.
The opening is fresh and soft. It develops into a flowery, slightly sweet (just a little bit powdery) smell. Every element in this fragrance is subtle. It could work as a unisex scent, as said before, but is definitely designed 'for him'.
If you like strong, powerful scents, you should pass this one. If you feel more comfortable wearing softer scents that will please yourself and only the ones close to you, you should give Ferre for Him a try. Not to forget: the bottle is simply perfect.

Cacharel Pour L'Homme by Cacharel
I tried this a couple of times. The opening is divine, but when the nutmeg appears the fun is over. There's simply too much of it. After the nutmeg has disappeared it's all soapy. Very disappointing scent overall.

Chic for Men by Carolina Herrera
This smells like sweetened pipe tobacco. Not a bad smell, but when you use this fragrance you'll smell like you spent all day at the tobacconist. Nobody wants that, I guess. Therefore, thumbs down.

Herrera for Men by Carolina Herrera
Watery and very flowery, no spice, no 'bite', woodnotes hardly detectible. Even if you like lighter fragrances with flowery notes, thisone of CH might be a disappointment for you. It's simply too feminine.

Homme Nature by Yves Rocher
Ok smell, I mean for a showergel or shampoo..Very green, very natural. But no development, no warm notes, you'll smell all day like you just a came out of the shower. If that's what you're looking for, this maybe worth a try (for no money at all)

Phileas by Nina Ricci
This is my all time favourite. Best looking bottle ever too. I had a bottle of Phileas about 20 years ago, and recently, I got my hands on a miniature. Just bought it to see if the smell was as good as I remembered. And it was! Rich, spicy, warm, oriental, complex but balanced. Never have smelled anything like it. I think it's a good thing though that Phileas has become rare and is not produced anymore; makes it even more legendary!

Ricci Club by Nina Ricci
I had a bottle of Ricci Club aftershave when I was about 25. I loved it. Ik was surprised to(recently) find out that RC is still in production and I bought a bottle on the web. A bit afraid that it might be a turn down, after more than 15 years. But it wasn't! I still love it! And although it's almost 20 years it came out, it's not oldfashioned in any way.
The opening is fresh and sharp, first minutes a bit too sharp for my taste, but then it calmes down and bit to an incredible combination of warmth and freshness. How did they do this??
It's powerful but inoffensive, masculine but not macho at all, and pretty longlasting. I think it's very suitable for daytime use as well as special occasions, it's extremely 'versatile'. A kind of fragrance which becomes part of you (so make sure to build up some stock)
Great bottle, too!

Chanel Pour Monsieur by Chanel
Quite pleasant and inoffensive (always a plus!), but not very 'sexy'and definitly something for maturer/older men. Something children should give their father with Christmas.
I'd go for the aftershave. Better looking bottle too.

Chrome by Azzaro
Sharp and fresh opening, very nice. Because of this opening, I was tempted to buy this stuff a couple of years ago. Big mistake: after the opening it starts to smell really chemical, a bit like shoeshine. Not pleasant at all.
Also, I don't like the colour of the juice. This kind of blue, that's no good for a edt or after shave..

Égoïste / L'Égoïste by Chanel
Í'm not a big fan of sweet and woody. But this stuff is fantastic! Very characteristic, and yet subtle and non-offensive. Maybe not suitable for the office, or is it? It is strong in a way that it has 'body', it's finished and polished, but it definitely isn't overwhelming like lots of modern fragrances can be. It's a very private scent, in a way.
The black box with the white print, the masculine bottle...this is something a man whant's to posess, eh? Luxurious quality. Like a pair of quality shoes or a swiss watch.
Of course you should try this before buying it. I'm sure you will like the smell, but will you feel comfortable wearing it?

Vetiver by Guerlain
Tried this the other day...what a disappointment that was! Top notes are very unpleasant, IMHO of course. Almost sickening. Om the drydown, it smells exactly like a bar of Sunlight soap. Quite pleasant actually, but nothing to get excited about! Be careful, try this before you buy: the beautiful bottle, the Guerlain reputation, and loads of positive reviews can be too much of a temptation...

Azzaro pour Homme by Azzaro
I used to wear this in my mid-twenties. Now, at 40+ I can't stand the smell anymore. The opening is lovely and fresh , I must admit, but that takes only 5 seconds. On the drydown, there's no warmth at all, and that's not how I remembered it. Did they change the recipe or what? It smells cheap now, and in fact, it's not that cheap at all! Spend your money on something more classy.

Eau Sauvage by Christian Dior
I do have great sympathy for old style citrussy perfumes. And in a way this is IMHO really a good fragrance. The lemon and basil are truely natural. It is fresh and non-offensive. However,I will never wear this stuff, I actually hate it. It's a depressing scent to me, this is how my uncles smelled at funerals when I was a kid.

Essential by Lacoste
This is truely terrible. I sprayed a little on my wrist at the drugstore: a disaster. I was expecting an 'easy' fresh fragrance, but this is really agressive stuff! The worst thing: it has a superb longevity.
I can't recognize any note; my nose almost bleeds of this stuff.

Signoricci by Nina Ricci
Fantastic opening, but on the drydown a bit too soft for me. Indeed, discrete and non-offensive, but i miss a certain 'bite'. The basenotes are enormously long lasting, but not masculine enough for my taste. It remembers me of how my mothers shawls used to smell. Overall: good and original fragrance, but too weak and I really wonder if anyone else but yourself will scent it. So whats the point of wearing it..

Dune pour Homme by Christian Dior
I really tried to understand why people like Dune, but I simply can't. It smells like shoeshine! Shoeshine can have a quite pleasant smell though, but not on human skin and not all day long. I'm curious if anyone agrees on the resemblance with Azzaro Chrome?

Mémoire d'Homme by Nina Ricci
Nice bottle indeed! Great fragrance too. I allways felt comfortable wearing Nina Ricci's EDT's. They're a bit different, and I never knew other men wearing Ricci which makes it even more special.
About MdH: I agree on the grapefruit but I happen to like grapefruit... At first, MdH has a slight bitterness, but on my skin it developes into a subtle sweet scent. A scent which reminds me of the old Ricci's like Signoricci and Ricci Club. But maybe that's what I want it to do..? Never mind, I simply love this one!
