Obsession for Men by Calvin Klein

I recently wanted to buy Obsession. I really did. I have fond memories of wearing it in the 80s. But when I sampled it at the fragrance counter I realized that my tastes have changed. Obsession is distinctive and, to me, frozen in a very good time. But it's not for me anymore. It's too sweet, and that's saying something since my primary frag for the last five years has been Givenchy Pi. I *did* purchase Obsession Night. Nice.

Obsession Night for Men by Calvin Klein

I've been wearing Givenchy Pi for the last five years and fondly remember the original CK Obsession from the 80s. Yep, I like em sweet, but I thought I'd gamble on Obsession Night. ON is NOT sweet, at least not on me. It's woody -- very woody with leather at the center. This is after wading through the clean, fragrant, fruity topnotes. Nope, Obsession Night is not sweet. It is calm and comforting and fruity and woody and leather. I can't even detect the vanilla, patchouli or musk that others claim it to have. It isn't Pi or Obsession, but I love it anyway.

Pi by Givenchy

I'm not a collection guy. I choose one scent as my signature after careful sampling and then I immerse myself in its forms. Pi has been my signature scent for the last three years. I love it. It's distinctive, warm, comfortable and pleasant. Everybody in my life who means anything to me also likes it. Don't get the wrong idea. I don't want you to run out and buy it. It's MY scent. I don't care how many rubes describe it as too feminine, too sweet, too vanillin or too whatever. I hope you twist your nose as I walk past. Pi makes me feel like a million bucks, and the positive feedback I get generally comes from people who exhibit "class."
