Animale for Men by Animale Parfums

I'll go my friend Foetidus one better. I had heard about Animale Animale, and it really sounded like something I'd enjoy.

So one day I bought it. I smelled it, was not impressed, and I wondered if this were yet another one where my opinion was in the minority. Then I finally realized that I had bought the "single Animale", and that explained everything.

I tend to read fine print, but I got stung on this one; at least it was nice and cheap. Maybe I can use it for air freshener or something.

L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme by Guerlain

I like this fragrance a lot. It combines elegance and sweetness very nicely. Along with the notes pointed out by everybody else, it seem to me that that there is a hazelnut note in there, which is welcome.

The longevity isn't that good on me, even with a pretty heavy application.

A*Men / Angel Men by Thierry Mugler

After seeing all the controversy, I had to smell this for myself. I can see why this polarizes people - it's very strong, and the first blast is a shock. To me, the big blast of patchouli combined with the alcohol carrier was almost skunky.

This lasted for quite awhile, and then the feral sharpness began to balance with sweeter notes. After about 15 minutes, the sweetness began to predominate, and I began to like it. Finally, awhile later, I began to get the chocolate vibe. So to me, there were four discreet stages, and I really liked the final result. Every so often during the next few hours I'd get another nice waft, with yet more subtle differences.

It was a valuable lesson in testing something beyond the top notes; it's about the most complex drydown I've experienced. I like the complex chocolate character a whole lot. To me, the smells are palpably sexual.

Carlos Santana for Men by Carlos Santana

VERY nice. A note of cinnamon, and an apple quality, not freshly sliced apples, but a cooked spice apple character. There's more to it than those, but that may give you some idea.

Overall, an attractive sweet-spicy gourmand scent that's very easy to like. For me, it has pleasant sillage and about medium longevity.

When I first sampled this on a card, it didn't really register, vanishing almost immediately, so I forgot about it. Later, after having tried it several times on the skin, I went for it. After buying it, I ended up wearing it many days in a row, something I rarely do even with my favorites.

Iquitos by Alain Delon

A heady, excellent scent with a very strong rose feel, almost like a garden of them. It's not one-dimensional, though - there are enough spicy and woody notes to balance it out. Not like anything else that I own.

With the strong rose vibe, I can see where some guys may feel uncomfortable wearing it. To me, it definitely could be worn by either gender, and I often like that sort of scent.

I hear it's discontinued, but it still can be found at this time.

L'Eau par Kenzo pour Homme by Kenzo

One of my favorites! It's at the top of my summer list. Definitely a strong lemon accord, but a sophisticated one - I get not only lemon, but also the lemon peel, and combined with the other fresh notes, it's intoxicating.

Very fresh and cooling.

Hollywood for Men by Fred Hayman

This scent blends floral and spicy elements. There's a lavendar feel, and a well-blended orange note that I enjoy.

It's a complex fragrance that's good for dating and evening wear.

OP Blend by Ocean Pacific

I would agree that it's similar to D&G. To me the main difference is that it seems to have less of a tobacco accord. Ironically, I didn't care much for the tobacco element in D&G, so I prefer this.

It does have a dumb spray mechanism, apparently somebody's attempt to be edgy and cool.

It has pretty strong sillage, and about medium lasting power on me. It's quite sweet in a pleasing way. I think of it as a nice informal fragrance.
