Vintage by John Varvatos
This is the sweetest scent I have in my wardrobe that can actually be enjoyed.
First is the onrush of powerful dates (the fruit) that blend nicely into leather, tonka and a hint of fresh tobacco. As the drydown progresses in this decidedly manly concoction the fruits fade but never absolutely leave.
Vintage is without doubt nearly unique to me with this date accord (Original Varvatos too)...never have I met a better played sweetness that lasts about 8 hours.
People seem to love this much better than I do. This is my daughters favorite and since Pino Silvestre is her second choice, I am proud to say despite her youth she studies scents and is not a brainwashed "fresh CK" clone. Try it in the store, walk around a bit and ask your loved ones...or perhaps a cute SA at a lonely kiosk their opinion...then purchase it online as the mall department store retail price is the only thing about this that could come near to giving me a headache.
Enjoy...

Firstly enough studies are in to unequivically determine that pheremones DO attract other people...
That said this formulation contains a significantly diluted amount of one of the top three attractants.
Enough to truly work? Depends on your individual chemistry...
Much better pheremone products are available if you are looking for that "special lure".
Scent is slightly berry/sweet and will not cause offence, but should be worn under something else like Varvatos or Vintage Varvatos as this scent is virtually gone before 3 hours are finished.
Recommended with a wink and a nod...

Silver Black / Onyx by Azzaro
This is yet another flagrant example of how shabbily the FDA treats US residents when it comes to fragrance.
This "babysitter" gov't only allows "dead" scents to be imported and until internet sales exploded and by sheer volume enabled cross border scent shipments the only way to experience the true perfumers art was to travel abroad and sneak some back.
Thus we come to Onyx vs. Black/Silver as they are actually two distinct potions.
Is it by chance most of those negative reviews come from N.A. where Onyx is on the shelves, while most of the positive reviews are from around the world based on B/S?
No, both CAN be correct!!!
The extra animate spark in B/S is the glue that creates the cohesion of timeless intrigue, unequivocally.
Mating these unusual ingredients is a risk that pays off handsomely...my only nitpick is that the green apple on top is a hint too sweet, but after that lingering moment the rest of the aromatic experience is invitingly unique (Manly yet modern).
So hop on the internet and try some genuine B/S soon and just leave the Onyx on the shelf where it just may belong.
Oh and for the record, despite the specific naming, the bottle is in fact a heavy brown; therefore, you CAN see how much liquid remains...a significant pet peeve for many, including myself.

Arpège pour Homme by Lanvin
As was clearly stated before, This is a much improved Burberry Touch...however neither strikes me as very manly at all.
Strong iris and vanilla overpower all who come near and it takes nearly an hour before I feel its synthetics have toned down enough to expose to other innocent people.
My wife exclaimed it was fit for her(a woman), so while it may be tolerable to my nose I cannot imagine when I would be able to wear this "unisex blend". While lasting over 24 hours of staying power (through a shower) it is just too sweet for me...

Tabac Original by Mäurer & Wirtz
Freshly shaved from an old fashioned barber...quartet harmonizing outside the shop...evocative in its timelessness this fragrance is the epitome of crisp and clean.
This is the scent of the job interview, meeting your inlaws to be, tea with the queen or any other event where you wish to impress with zero chance of offending. Tabac Original is THE choice.
My only personal gripe is that after a few hours the scent is all but gone...fortunately it does stamp out all offensive body odor all day so reapply and enjoy the smiles...

Azzaro pour Homme by Azzaro
This is the scent, with real ambergris and musk, that can assist one to dominate the boardroom or bedroom...
Make no mistake this is intense, powerful, and not for the faint of heart or childlike wimps.
From the citrus opening, through the aniseseed and onto the musk this frag exudes a sharp, fresh, slightly unrefined clout that cannot be ignored.
Free flowing silage and above average longevity make this bottle a "must have" in any man's arsenal...try some if you dare...

Pino Silvestre by Silvestre
Foetidus below expresses it well, it is unfortunate that pine floor cleaners arrived on the scene far after 1955 and spoiled the acknowledged uniqueness of this well crafted scent.
Fresh, clear, and wonderful, but for me only suitable when outdoors or at home, where we never use pine cleaner.
Great silage to cheer one up, if the clouds are hanging low and average staying power (6 hours for me).
Breathe deep and enjoy...

Francesco Smalto pour Homme by Francesco Smalto
Ahhh...we now reach my fairly recent signature scent, discontinued, but that turn of events was allowed only because FS himself is now relegated a "senior advisor" to the company he built and sold off some years ago...he thus could not stop the demise of his own namesake.
This mix of manly herbs and spices is the real deal...oozing an almost subliminal sex appeal, yet retaining a solid sense of refinement, transending its 80's origins in classical style.
Dry, dry, dry enough to balance its formidable potency, never reaching cloying/burdening no matter where, or how much you apply it (Within reason naturally).
Read Odysseusm below for an accurate account of this frag's progression and if you are not worried about smelling unmistakenly like a man, try some of this long lasting masterpiece soon, very soon...

Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene
Classic this may be, but when first applied...whew!!! That burst of lavender is so overwhelming that thoughts of "Is this a pansy cologne?", "Could a real man wear this?"
flooded my mind.
After 15 minutes or so the initial lavender assault gave way to some slight citrus that weaved more green/mossy while the lavender remained in diminishing quantities till the very end.
If you are willing to endure the top lavender scream, to get to the murmurs of moss...this is a most unique, well made and long lasting frag. (Surprisingly made in the USA) I will keep my bottle and wear it only when I feel an odd yet cheerful lift is needed to the day...
Cheers...

Horizon by Guy Laroche
Important to note: This is not an acceptable scent for a blind purchase...
Based upon prior recommendations seen below I purchased a large lot of this scent. The headache from the synthetic notes was so intense I actually had to wash it off before full development.
Poor LaRoche, never have I had to do that before...and I was a great fan of Drakkar through the 80's/early 90's.
Try Before You Buy !!!!!
