    Cotillon by Avon

A true classic and one of the best that Avon ever put out. It is a true testament of it's time. Lovers of carnation and vanilla need to smell this glorious creation. I love it.

    Guerlain Homme L'Eau by Guerlain

I love this in the first few minutes, it very exciting and satisfying. However, after that, it's absolutely nothing spectacular and shares the same chemical signature as many others on the market in the past few years.

I am sorry, but I can not recommend this at all.

This smells as if it could have been made in the 1920's!! An absolute aldehyic masterpiece with a very dirty civet laden drydown that I absolutely adore! WONDERFUL.

    Love's Rain Forest by Love's

I love the "Earth friendly" idea behind this and applaud it, but this fragrance gets nauseating very quickly and it in no way reminds me of any glorious rain forest. In fact, it smells more like old aerosol hairspray...destroying the ozone layer with every spray! Is it meant to be a reminder? I don't know, but I am avoiding this like the plaque. Yuck.

Lolita Lempicka Fleur Défendue / Forbidden Flower by Lolita Lempicka

Another highly addictive, sensual, and, yet somehow, demure creation of the wonderful Annick Menardo. The dark cherry note coupled with pink peonies on top of a bed of sugar sweetened almonds is rather intriguing. Admittedly, the fragrance is very strong at first, but, used moderately, it becomes more of a skin scent with an attitude as it dries down - lightly sweet, yet dark and inviting. Well worth having!

Vice Versa by Yves Saint Laurent

First off, I hold YSL in very high regard. However, there are $1 hairsprays that smell better this. From the second I put it it on all I wanted was for it to end. Seriously, dreadfully bad.

Floral green with a bit of stinky herb's and stuff. A cacophony,yes....but it's fabulous. Most definitely unisex. If you can find it, you must try it.

A huge thumbs up - way, WAY up!

A masterpiece! Clever in it's use of pepper and incense and a vanilla base that is rich and elegant - pure Caron grandeur. I will never be without this. WONDERFUL!

    Eau de Réglisse by Caron

The absolute beauty of this is astounding. The lemon verbena drenched top notes are truly delightful and mix wonderfully with the main star of the show - liquorice. The drydown is very close to the skin with an ever present light and woody patchouli softened further by a lovely ginger-vanilla and slight musk. This has quickly shot to the top of my list as my favourite liquorice scent.

Most certainly more masculine than feminine, but easily worn by both.

    Highly recommended.

    Darling by Kylie Minogue

In my opinion, this is a hugely underrated fragrance by the wonderful Thierry Wasser and Ms. Minogue. Yes, it goes on sweetly synthetic, but nothing as bad as others may make it seem. The true beauty of the perfume is the way it wears and it’s progression. The quality and the mastery of its creator makes itself apparent in this regard. As some have noted previously, the middle is where this one starts to shine (largely due to the freesia giving away to lily and then boronia mixed with a light vanilla) and then ends in a gorgeous base that is absolutely delightful and lasts for many, MANY hours.

I indeed hold this fragrance in very high regard. This is one that I think many wrote of for being a “celebrity scent,” and that is really a travesty as it is so much more than that. Any fan of Thierry Wasser should check this one out - make notes and study.

Overall: 4 stars (minus one ONLY for the overly sweet top) and a big THUMBS UP!!!

I am a huge fan of Annick, so I just had to have this. All that can be said is that it's very simple and to the point. It simply does it's job of being a stronger version of a modern cologne and nothing more.

Like it or leave it, that's the extent of it.

    Éclat d'Arpège by Lanvin

The presentation of this Eau De Parfum is gorgeous! The packaging is absolutely stunning - I love the light purple tint the bottle gives off. Unfortunately, the parfum itself is nothing more than a later version of D&G's Light Blue in a much nicer presentation. Of course I have to say I love it because I do; however, I loved it just as much before it got all dressed up and used another name.

    Bleu de Chanel by Chanel

I find this one very nice, but nothing special. To me it lacks the distinctiveness and quality characteristics that makes me think Chanel. To give it that characteristic, I would have amped up the incense note a few times, but that's just me. Nonetheless, this it's very wearable and I did get a few compliments on it when I wore it out. In my opinion, it projects better on fabric than skin, so spray that shirt and jacket boys!

A gorgeous and seriously overlooked fragrance that makes a lovely addition to the Guerlain collection. Christine Nagel did the house proud! Great from start to finish. I couldn't review it any better than MarksCarltonLane did below.

    Vol de Nuit by Guerlain

This is just almost beyond words. When I wear this I am absolutely transfixed by it's presence. What a beautiful and somewhat sad story it tells - as lovely today as it must have been when it was released. It reminds of an old film I saw recently about the ocean-liner S.S. lIe de France. It showed a very eloquently dressed woman standing on deck near the rear of the ship - wind blowing her hat, dress, and coat as she watched a mail plane fly overhead in the early evening sky. It was so awe inspiring - how it must have felt back then is beyond me. How melancholy and taken for granted it all now. A pity. All that aside, I will love this fragrance till the day I die. Absolutely one of the most gorgeous scents ever made, period.

Nicole Miller for Men by Nicole Miller

The bottle I have is one of the newer ones and it is very, VERY boozy with a wonderful juxtaposition into the leather mid that I absolutely love. The apple top notes are really short lived, but effective and the honey stays in the background throughout the entire progression. I am getting very little vanilla, but it is there - like a drop or two of the cheap grocery store sort (not a bad thing) just for added measure. Strangely enough, the apple seems to come out again later on me - mixing with the bourbon and that little hint of vanilla. I REALLY like this stage. The base is very comforting and just plain nice- containing a lovely smooth as silk amber/sandalwood accord with a hint of oak moss (I stress hint) and sweet (do in part to the honey) musk. Sort of similar to some others, but the lack of patchouli makes this very different. Very nice indeed.

For me the entire progression took about 5 hours, but it is still there ever so faintly on my skin. However, it is still full force bourbon/leather on my sweater!

Essence of United Colors of Benetton Man by Benetton

I'll have to add my vote for a CK One clone. However, the drydown is darker and much more masculine. I like that it utilizes an awesome dirty red geranium like note towards the middle and end. That note alone adds an interesting twist to formula which I enjoy alot.

All in all, this isn't my favourite from Benetton for sure, but I love the bottle and still adore this house immensely.

I am with Brielle87 on this one - marvelous - I am very LUCKY to have a bottle of this masterpiece in my possession. Without a single doubt, this goes right up there with Guerlain's Jicky as a true classic. I dare say that Jean Desprez's wonderful Bal à Versailles (in it's civet laden cologne concentration) harkens back to this as a possible influence . . .

The civet note in the base this is absolutely stunning AND made even better by a lovely ambergris! Absolutely amazing!! The bottle I have was from France - Pre New York Weil - brought to the states in 1932 (indicated from the papers that came with it). I have read that it had to be reformulated several times due to lack of materials and wartime problems when the company moved to the United States as a result of the Nazi occupation during WWII. Unfortunately, again, from what I have read, the civet/ambergris note largely disappeared in later versions of this - being replaced by more spicy elements and sandalwood. I am sure it was still nice, but an awful shame to loose them!! However, rest assured that If I ever find any of the newer formulations, I'll snatch it up! I am sure it is fantastic too!

    Perfect.

Classic. Very pleasant and enjoyable. I especially love the hints of peony and heliotrope over the powdery (not gaudy/dated at all) vanilla/musk base. Recommended.

    Diesel Green Masculine by Diesel

Sweetly coniferous fir on the top with a heavy emphasis on ginger, mandarin orange, orchid, jasmine and geranium in the mid notes. The base (which is absolutely wonderful) is an interesting blend of incense, amber, and sandalwood with just a hint of musk. Overall sillage is awesome, albeit a bit linear, and longevity is good (6-8 hours). Very well done.
