parfums*PARFUMS Series 3 Incense: Kyoto by Comme des Garçons

My first samples of Kyoto were fantastic and I was thoroughly smitten with the incense base and exotic quality of the fragrance - enough that I was compelled to purchase a bottle. Upon repeated wearing, however, it started to remind me more and more of mosquito repellent, which, while not altogether reuplusive, isn't really what I have in mind when I apply a fragrance. Comparisons to Sequoia are certainly valid here. Longetivity and sillage are both above average. CdG continues to impress with their unique offerings, but this one just isn't for me.

Blu Mediterraneo Tuscan Cypress / Cipresso di Toscana by Acqua di Parma

This might be the most refreshing scent that I have ever tried. The key to truly enjoying this lies in an earlier reviewer's suggestion to double the number of sprays that you would normally use. When applied in this manner, the citrus topnotes never fully dissappear and combine wonderfully with the vetiver, patchouli and woods beneath. I expected something heavier, but was pleasantly surprised... perhaps you will be too! Give this one a shot.

Magnetism for Men by Escada

There aren't many scents out there that are this unique. If I walk into a room and someone is wearing Magnetism, I know immediately because there is a sweet, powerful note in here that is unlike anything else I have ever experienced. Combine that with the fact that it is extremely wearable and that the opposite sex goes absolutely wild for it, and we have a winner. I couldn't wear it every day, but for the occasional night out on the town, this is a very good scent to turn to.

Santal Noble by Maître Parfumeur et Gantier

Let me preface this by saying that my nose is not the most sophisticated in the world, however to me Santal Noble smells like a somewhat dusty piano, especially in the later stages of its (considerable) evolution. I sit down on the bench, open the lid to reveal the keys, and this is what hits me. To be sure it is certainly not an offensive scent, on the contrary I find it unique and pleasantly dry, but it is not something I would want to wear myself. On the other hand, the first 10 minutes or so are absolutely magical. This is my third test, and I'm bordering on giving it a thumbs up purely on quality and originality, but in the end it is merely neutral.
