Bulgari Black by Bulgari
I don't know about this Olfactive Block business. Bulgari Black may have a subtle progression, but it is certainly there. The dark, sort of nasty burning rubber overtones give way to a very well balanced vanilla / leather / tea scent. Polite and sophisticated, but very very versatile. I can't actually picture this as a feminine scent.

L'Anarchiste by Caron
Smells like a massacre in santa's workshop. Gunshot wounds, holiday spices and orange peel. Completely confusing at first, seemingly unwearable. After a few days, however, I "got it". The balance of citrus, spice and musk is similar to far more ordinary scents such as Minotaure, but here it is amplified to a ridiculous degree. It's a niche, but it's crazy enough to work for me at least. Don't buy this blind, speak to the nice people at Caron in New York and they will mail you a free sample.

Ungaro III by Ungaro
Goth in a bottle is right. This is dead roses, strong port wine and black velvet. If Green Irish Tweed was made for Cary Grant, this was made for Bela Lugosi. A shame it's been discontinued, there doesn't exist a more manly and interesting floral.

Knize Ten by Knize
The same notes that make Knize Ten seem old-fashioned and gentlemanly also imply a sort of dirty modern leather, probably due to more recent derivations like Bulgari Black, Bel Ami and Cuiron. This is a strong, herbal, sandalwood leather scent. The opposite of Varvatos, the only sweetness found here is a vague floral note after the leather has faded. This is a scent that nobody would release today. Just as well, I am content to smell uniquely of Knize.
