    Royal Prastara by Douglas Hopkins

Very similar to Caswell-Massey's Number six, i.e. very prerevolutionary scent, after 10 minutes I smell even some leather, reminding me of Creed: I do not agree that this is another Koelnisch Wasser, not at all, the citrus notes dominate; but finally, I'm a bit disappointed, compared to Piver or the strongly modernized Le Vainqueur by Rancé, Prastara has a certain old people-quality, I wouldn't wear this scent to feel attractive or festive, it has the seriousness of an accountant, not offputting, though, but certainly a bit simple. The prize is excessive considering the not very sophisticated scent you get. For collectors only, nostalgics, spinsters or bluestockings.

Eau de Cologne à la Reine des Fleurs by Piver

Listed a scent for women, I would rather doubt that classification. As a man, I'm wearing it quite often, and most woment I know declare, that they would consider it unfeminine.
It's spicy, no-nonsense, dry, but dries down to some very refined rose-tone. I find it refreshing, decent, much more complex than other 18th century colognes. I scent one could imagine on both Valmont and Merteuil ...

    Le Vainqueur by Rancé

Put Truefitt & Hill's Freshman (1815) on one wrist, Fragonard's Eau de Hongrie (before 1800) on the other, and you will discover that Rancé's Vainqueur is very similar to the melange of these two scents. I first doubted about the authenticy of this fragrance as it smells definitely modern to me (and Luca Turin commented rather nastily about it), but it seems to capture pretty well the spirit of the age of chivalry. Anyway, it's a very good scent, very classy, long lasting and prefect for formal occasions during daytime.
