Hmmm so many comments of either love or hate, I am a women and just adore it on myself or my men or any man that wears it!!!, I was traveling when I bought my first bottle and found it went with any country and any season and as it was the only perfume I owned for 18 months I never got sick of it, to me it smells feminine but not girly, I smell fresh flowers at the end of summer not car oil!! I can smell violet in there somewhere, I remember when it came out it was very different for that era of men's fragrance, if I smell it it a room I feel an urge to follow the smell even if the wearer is not Gods gift to women, I would recommend it to a man "looking" for a mate !! and as a women who wears it I aways get a positive comment.

Eau de Cartier by Cartier
Violets in a wood after clean rain is how this smells to me, as stated it is perfect to wear in close quarters as it sticks close to the skin and becomes your own smell and so totally inoffensive.
A simple and at the same time an intricate scent it is more complex with the dry down, I always find violet leaves comforting somehow.

Eau de Patou by Jean Patou
The best creamy citrus there is I would say, and yes wonderful in the heat of summer like running nude through a citrus orchard with a sprinkler going.
A must in your fragrance wardrobe.
Can still be found from time to time at discount fragrance store so keep an eye out.

Je Reviens by Worth
This timeless perfume smells good on every body I think, it has no notes that could possibly be called offensive, I wear it and my mother wore it when I was young and living in a hot mediterranean country it truly is a cooling summer smell it is supremely refreshing, but don't be fooled, it is also mysterious, and extremely sexy, men seem to love it and it suits a lot of different types of women or men for that matter a bit like Eau de Cartier in unisexness.
I own vintage and new ....the vintage has far more depth and character as the new uses synthetic ingredients and you can tell. The smell dose not linger on me unless I layer with the body wash and body moisturizer, although I can get more millage from my vintage bottle, a must for anyone starting a fragrance collection.

Ma Griffe by Carven
I have worn this on and off all my life I think it is a "summer" scent and it reminds me of the sun, it is both a crisp cool and warm smell, I own vintage and new editions and they are similar although the old has more depth as if it uses more expensive ingredients, it is a classic that everyone should have in a collection.

Shocking by Elsa Schiaparelli
I own the vintage and new editions of this perfume...the original is mysterious interesting, moody, exotic and very sexy it must have been so avant garde in the day, I can imagine Mercedes de Acosta [sic] a notorious lesbian in the 1930's and 40's and good friend of Greta Garbo wearing it....it has that adroginous feel silage is great you can use the EDP sparingly in the morning and still smell vestiges of it at night, it is one of those scents that gets you noticed in a room it's very sophisticated. Those buying vintage should be picky though as I have had bottles that are completely off or sour.
The new edition in my opinion bears no resemblance to the original at all !! it is completely different and smells like a cheap drug store juvenile perfume cloying sweet and musky I want to wash it off immediately it's like Jovan musk mixed with Revlon Charlie or Chloe no offense intended to those perfumes I realise lots of people love them but I don't, Shocking new is truly "stinky" and can not be compared to the original.

Coeur-Joie by Nina Ricci
This scent is just perfect in my eyes, I own 3 vintage bottles, and one new very expensive bottle of reissued that bears no resemblance or very little to the original it's like a poor watered down cousin.
The original is flowery and soft but stops very short on being powdery or old fashioned it has "something" else elusive that no other scent has it's just beautiful and different to any of the modern flower perfumes of today, it envelops you in a blanket of warmth and reassurance.
Only one problem I don't know if it's just my skin but after just 10 mins the smell disappears on me, OK so they are vintage probably from the 1960's and one bottle smells a touch off but this applies to the new edition also, so I don't and can't wear it which is devastating ....but the lovely round bottles by lalique look good on my dressing table and I am lucky to own so much of this very rare and hard to find scent so I often just open the bottles and walk around with one under my nose for a while to smell what I think is a perfect perfume.

April Violets by Yardley
Funny I just love this stuff, sure it smells a bit old fashioned I refuse to say "old lady" as it's so judgemental and is often used in reference to perfumes that are not classified as great, it's not a scent I really wear out of my house but I spritz it on nearly every night after a shower before bed sometimes layering it with other single flower scents, its "clean" smelling and relaxing, and has become like a well worn crisp cotton night shirt I also own ....comforting.

Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene
I love this scent and I am a women that wears it as one of my staple's I find it very "clean" smelling and easy to wear when I can't be bothered with anything else but then I love woody.... violets, and I feel a bit like a 1920's flapper going off to work as a typist.. I find it perfect for inside or crowds, as it is not overpowering on my skin at all in fact it is light and soft and I find I need to reapply after less than an hour, I get complimented by men every time I wear it
