Citrus Paradisi by Czech & Speake

I expected sorbets after a sweaty day on the beach, a sensual, coastal civet/ambergris base. Unfortunately on my skin the tart grapefruit mostly disappears within minutes and I am left with the aforementioned fecal, urinary and halitosis elements.

Playful, short lived chocolate, like a smartie.

    Blue Amber by Montale

Powdery, vanillic opening, with a rubber that manifests as an artificial sweetness - like a warm, heavily iced lemon and raisin bun; grows a little drier and saltier - an uncomplicated but rich amber.

Like eating dark chocolate with your lover under a tree after it has rained.

Carnal Flower by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle

The opening - I recoil from my wrist - 2 stars - this is not the addictive cool clove of Tuberose Criminelle, something altogether spicier, more alive /
5 minutes - it warms a little - 3 stars - a floral Fracasian bouquet - nothing extraordinary, would still turn to L'Artisan for my creamy tuberose fix /
15 minutes - 4 stars - the green keeps it real, I am enchanted /
After 1 hour, it is how I would imagine the scent of an idealised cactus - something cool and fresh in an unforgiving landscape, a thorny green opening cracked to reveal juicy red flesh.

Sécrétions Magnifiques by Etat Libre d'Orange

I am disappointed that I was unable to appreciate the mermaid beauty in this fragrance - while I can see the marine female association, it is much more of a fish-like stench than the sparkling image that 'mermaid' evokes.

This is the first perfume that has made me gag with nausea, and recoil; hours after washing it off, there is still a faint odour emanating from my hand, of clean corpse ready to be dissected.

    Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules

Opening with alcohol and vomit, like patchy memories of a bad night out, or cleaning your hands in a hospital, this settles into a woody-citrus scent that would not be out of place on generic own-brand supermarket soap.

Narciso Rodriguez for Her by Narciso Rodriguez

A light floral, reminded me of a garden full of honeysuckle, with a pleasant musk drydown - but not evocative or particularly interesting to my nose. Tom Ford's White Patchouli is a fuller, richer and smoother take on this kind of sensuality.

    Rose Essentielle by Bulgari

Initially a bold plastic rose, quickly dries down to a pleasant floral, little sillage - this is a private and discreet fragrance, very elegant... just a little too inoffensive for me!

    White Patchouli by Tom Ford

like a sip of cold milk, fresh but reminiscent of the underlying maternal relations; like sitting on a temple floor, the marble cold beneath you, but the air alive with warm energy and incense... privately beautiful.
