Tokyo by Kenzo

Upon further review, I don't like it as much. It smells too busy, nothing stands out. It really is like Tokyo--crowded and noisy.

Vetiver by Guerlain

I was initally enthralled by this one. I went back and smelled it again later, sprayed it on a scent stick and kept it for a while. I've decided that it smells like an old man. The scent of tobacco is almost overwhelming==reminded me of a tobacco drying shed in Virginia. Or of my old boss' office.

Baldessarini Ambré by Baldessarini

The initial notes give it a flavor that is a bit sweet for my usual tastes, but it mellows nicely over time. It has a nice warmth to it also, reminiscent of the way that Obsession struck me the very first time that I smelled it, but not so overstated. I can wear this for hours and the smell improves the entire time, with thThe whiskey undertones becoming very prominent throughout the day. I've been wearing this one to work, sprayed on my chest and collarbone, but I think it may be more appropriate for evening wear--it makes me think of warmth and coziness.

M; Men by Masakï Matsushïma

I found this one while looking for something clean, masculine and not too sweet. Though it has sweet notes on top, it is not overwhelming==slightly citrusy top notes (that truly smell like citrus, not like sweetened lemonade). The top notes don't fade so much as the underneath notes begin to assert themselves a bit more as time goes by. The undertones are fresh, clean and woody, without being overly musky or having that 'old man' smell that a lot of 'classic smelling' fragrances have. I was quite impressed by this scent. It reminds me a bit of Tuscany, which is a huuge compliment from me.

Obsession for Men by Calvin Klein

Very warm, but much too sweet for my taste, almost to the point of stinking. My dad likes this and I can't tell if he just drowns himself in it or if the sillage is really that high. Not for me.

Eau d'Orange Verte by Hermès

Smelled it in the store yesterday and was instantly beguiled. I'd gotten to the point of expecting to crinkle my nose and cringe at everything I smelled, but this one was a huge surprise to me. Love at first sniff. Salesman said the scent fades very quickly. My cousin said it smelled like an old man to her. Discouraged, I tried something else. I was wrong. like MacArthur, I shall return.

Tuscany / Etruscan by Aramis

Though I'm an admitted neophyte, I do have a working nose. This is absolutely my favorite scent. I've been wearing it as my signature scent for over ten years now and it is warm and comfortable, yet still alway s manages to surprise me when I catch a whiff of it midday. Clean, warm, slightly spicy and wonderfully masculine.
