Contradiction for Men by Calvin Klein

This is one I like to both smell and wear. There is a steely coolness to it, the bottle suits it well, but with warm woody undertones. Makes me see stylish Ikea furniture. I agree that is seems a bit perfuemy at first (the lime comes on strong), but it soon gains a very nice balance. I have found it to be one of the fragrances that reacts most to weather conditions, specifically stong sun (in which it has a gingerish snap) vs. shade (when I find I notice the peppercorn), but this could just be me.

Overall, an underrated fragrance and without question CK's most enticing and unique.

Baldessarini by Baldessarini

mature and sexy is right, reminds me vaguely of Emporio HE. Like if one wore HE and outgrew it, he'd move logically on to Baldessarini. It isn't too too elegant or stuffy, but sturdy, reliable in a business way, but also not without a sexy edge (that's the tobacco for sure). I quite like smelling it on my neighbor in the elevator as he leaves for work. I sense longevity is an issue though, because I have never smelled it on him in the elevator coming home from work.

Rive Gauche pour Homme by Yves Saint Laurent

This is what a man should smell like. reminds me of motorcycles, leather boots and blue jeans. I see a guy with tousled hair in his boxers, with a newspaper he's not reading spread out messily on the kitchen table. I watch his jaw as he eats toast, looking up at me. He yawns and stretches as a gust of wind comes through the sunny balcony window, billowing my curtains, and I catch a waft of yesterday's Rive Gauche (longevity is amazing). That's when I remember what happened the night before.

But enough prose-poetry. The scent: It has a very vintage feel, like an aftershave. Not old-fashioned, but old-school. This gives it a kind of classic masculinity which comes off as unpretentious and effortless. Not really a 'metrosexual' scent- one of the few men's colognes which I adore, but feel I can't wear myself. Simply too masculine. But at the same time, its not sleazy in that 70s disco way. It has a smoothness between its notes that is unmistakably modern, a kind of muted glossy finish over the composition which keeps it exceptionally clean.

Eau Sauvage by Christian Dior

To anyone who thinks citrus scents are necessarily young and unrefined, I say meet Eau Sauvage. With its lemon opening (the most mature of citrus accords, I find) and vetiver drydown (the most masculine note I know), Eau Sauvage conveys the steady, sure confidence of an accomplished gentleman. "Charming and assured" is exactly correct. If you are looking for a citrus that doesn't connote peach-fuzz, please buy Eau Sauvage.

Emporio Armani He by Giorgio Armani

This one is not seen much any longer, but it is very good. It is not loud or overpowering, but present. A light musk with some woods, similar to the new Dunhill, but much less heavy and a bit younger. Not less classy though. A summer Dunhill then, but it can go in any weather. Very easy to wear, and sexy too I think.
