| | Ingenue by Ava LuxeA lush, full, scent in the vein of Fracas and other walloping florals. I wanted to like this fragrance, but it gave me a two-day headache after just one teensy application, so our relationship is definitely over. 28th July, 2009. (Last Edited: 19th August, 2009.) |
| | Hers by D.R. Harris & co.Boasting a sweet and powdery blend of flowers and a musky drydown, this scent would be right at home on top of an antique vanity, nestled amongst the missus' various lotions and potions. Charming in a vaguely clumsy fashion, yet radiantly pretty in a way that seems to be getting harder and harder to come by nowadays. 3rd July, 2009. |
| | Viva by Ava LuxeLike Caltha, I find Viva very bubblegummy indeed. What I cannot fathom is why I like this scent so much. It is too sweet, and dear me, it is probably best suited to a hand lotion or thereabouts. But the drydown, at least on my skin, produces a deeper, richer, muskier scent than the top and middle notes. Hours after wearing it I am left with a circa 1900, fainting sofa sort of scent -- slightly dowdy, yes, but also feminine and deliciously mysterious. 30th May, 2009. |
| | Chant Du Coeur by ShiseidoA cool floral with a splash of green and a powdery drydown, this is an extremely pretty scent that somehow manages to be faintly dull at the same time. 1st May, 2009. |
| | No. 46 by ChanelMy sample of this is too small to allow me to describe it adequately, but I can say this: No. 46 is clearly a "Chanel" scent. It has some of the warm fullness of No. 5, some of the duskiness of No. 22, a fruity quality that I associate with Bois des Isles, and it held fast to my wrists for about three hours before fading to a quiet murmur. Would I buy a full size bottle of this scent if such a thing were possible? Probably not -- I am much more enamored of other Chanel offerings that actually are in production. But I still enjoyed being able to experience it, however fleetingly. 18th April, 2009. |
| | Aoud Shiny by MontaleI originally gave this three stars but subsequent wearings have led me to give this a four star rating. I still think the scent finishes with an odd, pervasively bitter note, but overall this works for me -- it is floral but not sweet, gently green, lightly musky, and it stays close to my skin. Not a remarkable scent, but a very, very good one, indeed. 31st March, 2009. (Last Edited: 17th July, 2009.) |
| | Le Temps d'Une Fête by Parfums de NicolaïClean, green, and modern, yet classical at the same time, with a lovely surge of narcissus at the forefront, and a honeyed, warm, and lush drydown, this scent is as circumspect as it is charming. Thoroughly engaging! 24th January, 2009. |
| | Murasaki by ShiseidoA lovely, soft, impeccably balanced floral with a wonderful tinge of galbanum and a velvety, talc-y drydown, this scent has been in my wardrobe since 1981. It works in any weather, for any occasion, and it is never too much -- it is just exquisite and restrained perfection. Too bad it is not easier to obtain, as others have pointed out. But then, that only makes it that much more special. 24th January, 2009. |
| | Love's True Bluish Light by Ava LuxeThis reminds me a tad of Stila's Creme Bouquet, but softer, and more well-rounded. The sweetness is clearly at the forefront of this scent but it is balanced by the milky and musky notes. Very pretty. 18th October, 2008. |
| | Promesse de l'Aube / FK1 by MDCIBeginning with a floral bouquet and ending with a long, warm vanilla rain, this scent is lovely and comforting, but not especially compelling. Its first few minutes are by far its best. 5th October, 2008. |
| | Amouage Gold by AmouageThis has an unbelievable warmth and fullness. I have read some reviews of this scent on other blogs that indicate this is a "special occasion" scent -- I disagree. A little goes a long way, yes, but the scent, applied in moderation, is feminine, lush, and very wearable. 19th July, 2008. (Last Edited: 25th August, 2011.) |
| | Divine by D'OrsaySpraying this on is like stepping into a 1950s era "chick flick" -- four fabulous single women (one's a career girl, one's a daddy's girl, one's a good girl, and one's a fun girl) rent a Manhattan penthouse for the summer and find everything and nothing they always wanted. (The fun girl wears Divine, by the way.) 19th July, 2008. |
