4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser by 4711
I gave this a thumbs up because it is a very pleasant fragrance. However, it has almost no longevity. It seems to dissipate way too soon, so it must be re-applied often. That may be its reason for its appeal, though. Definitely a daytime fragrance.

Old Spice by Procter & Gamble
Come on, you've worn Old Spice at least once in your life. I can't knock it since it is the all time best seller, although in the after shave version. I rated it four stars because it at least smells good. It smells the same on everybody, and it does not matter how little you apply: it makes its presence known. Before I got into the department store fragrances, this was my staple, and it likely still is the most worn fragrance for teenage boys at the prom (until they can afford something better).

Fahrenheit by Christian Dior
Another of my all time favorites. I intend to re-introduce it to my wardrobe. An absolute classic.

PS by Paul Sebastian
Owned this in the late eighties. Was my go to scent at the time until I discovered Farenheit. I remember getting good compliments with PS. I got more and better compliments with Farenheit. It depends on body chemistry.

Cool Water by Davidoff
One of my all time favorites. A clean scent that gets me a lot of compliments. I intend to add it to my wardrobe again.

Lagerfeld Classic by Lagerfeld
A classic which I found to be too strong. Like Polo, everyone knows what it is before you tell them. I wore it several times (from a sample vial) in the mid eighties, at the suggestion of my girlfriend. It seemed overpowering, so I never purchased it.

Royal Copenhagen by Royal Copenhagen
A good one. One of my staples back in the mid eighties, though now I find it too strong. Body chemistry plays a huge part with this one.

Halston Z-14 by Halston
Back in the mid-eighties this was a recomended "staple" cologne for men. I give this a neutral rating because it strongly depends on your body chemistry: it did not mix well with mine, judging from the reaction I got (one woman said she hated it; she then recommended Pierre Cardin). It obviously works well for some men since it is still very popular.

1903 by J Peterman
A great scent which gets me a lot of compliments. A little goes a long way, and has great longevity. I almost don't want anybody to know about it, like it's my little secret. However, too many people ask me what it is, and I'd rather it be popular so it stays in production.

Van Cleef & Arpels pour Homme by Van Cleef & Arpels
I had a sample vial of this in the early 80s. I remember women liking it a lot on me, but I was not able to afford to purchase it at the time. I forgot all about it, but I plan to finally purchase it as long as it smells the same.

Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme by Dolce & Gabbana
One of my favorites. I tend to like colognes that have been around for at least 20 years so I was surprised how well I liked this one. I keep at least 5 scents on hand and this is one of them.

Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur by Pierre Cardin
One of the best kept secrets is that Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur is a bargain. A quite pleasant cologne that is as good as some of the department store colognes. Can be found at some discount stores and drug stores for about half the price of Polo for example.

Drakkar Noir by Guy Laroche
From what I remember, this was a nice scent as long as it was used sparingly. Got good compliments from women. I wore it for years, but changed to Curve since it is milder.

Stetson by Stetson
This was the first cologne I ever purchased. Before that, I used my brother's Old Spice as a standby (I got Canoe, British Sterling and English Leather as gifts, but I guess they did not make enough of a impression). Anyway, I was about to graduate high school and Stetson was popular with teenagers in 1983 since it was not our father's cologne. Very strong smelling which is why I would not wear it now.

Polo by Ralph Lauren
This was the first upscale cologne I ever purchased circa 1986 when I was in college. Polo is a good scent, though not in the "clean" category, and I would not wear it today because it smells the same no matter who wears it. I prefer something that mixes well with body chemistry.

JHL by Aramis
Posssibly the best scent for men ever (at least for me). Women loved it on me. I wore JHL in the early 1980s. Received as a gift. When I went to buy a replacement bottle it was nowhere to be found. About 5 years ago I found a bottle at a mall perfume shop, but I thought maybe it was old. Does anyone know if it available in CT?
