| | Marc Jacobs for Men by Marc JacobsIt takes an effort just to figure out what this is like, it smells hollow. It's pleasant enough overall, but at first spray I was like, "uhm...is it supposed to smell like this?". When it settled it was "this is it?" -- expected more for this frag, too bad. 6th December, 2010. |
| | Green Water by Jacques FathI wanted to like this -- was hoping that a fragrance made long ago (albeit having undergone a reformulation) could translate well enough into current use. The SA told me it was herbal aromatic, and sensed promise when I skin-tested it because the initial notes reminded me of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, which I have and love. Told the SA I'd let it settle for a moment for me to enjoy it and get a feel for the drydown. 15 minutes later I had to go back and ask for a re-spray! It was gone! 2 re-sprays after and I still don't get anything aside from the sharp green opening...I already lingered around the area for quite some time, hoping that it would change or something. Nope...Oh well, gave it a shot. 17th July, 2010. |
| | Mediterraneum by VersaceGood thing I never saw any advertising for Mediterraneum to provide me an unfair bias. And even if some of the reviewers mentioned it can be bought cheaply online or everywhere else, it's certainly not a fixture here where I'm from, in fact I found this on the bottom shelf of an obscure frag shop. Cheap notions aside, this is a great fragrance from Versace, a great take on citrus. It's not a bright, sparkly concoction, as many citrus frags out there have been doing now...it's a dark, heavy citrus that isn't cloying, like an orange that has been left out in the sun -- its opening hook is just right to bring you in, revealing a deep middle that continues to entice. On the description, it was made for / or modeled by Fabio, and interestingly enough, it might as well be. A big masculine citrus scent that doesn't take any prisoners, but isn't too brash to turn off people. I only have a 50ml bottle; it might as well be the only 50ml bottle I have that I want backup bottles of immediately. 6th April, 2010. |
| | Bulgari Aqua pour Homme by BulgariVery distinct aquatic scent. For me can easily distinguish it from other aquatic offerings, I don't think it's generic at all. Great quality frag. Longevity on me is very good (3 sprays in the morning, I can still smell it around 2PM -- this is already very good for me, since I'm a smoker and my skin absorbs scents like hell). In the Philippines where aquatic is king (because of the freakin' hot and humid weather), this is one of my staples and go-to frags. 29th October, 2009. |
| | Heliotrope by EtroUnfortunately doesn't make it on my active rotation list, even if I own a full bottle...made a mistake of testing only once and taking advantage of a small discount for Etro items at the high-end dept store here (I passed on the Messe de Minuit and New Tradition). Untrained nose I am, but can pick out the almonds, vanilla, white musk...To me somewhat syrupy and thick at the start...not appropriate for most days here in Manila (humid most of the time...think sticky white icing on skin in the heat? Not good)...Hope my mind changes bout it by Christmas time, when the weather is cooler, this seems more appropriate by then. Good fall fragrance (for those with 4 seasons)...Good move up for those stuck on generic vanilla brands (aka VS and Bath&Body, which are crazy popular here). Still kinda glad I have it though, as nothing in my current 'drobe is similar to this. 29th October, 2009. |
| | Moschino Friends Men by MoschinoA sad effort by Moschino...I so wanted to like it because of a friends' recommendation (it's the only scent he wears, which is pretty sad...but I thought if his nose doesn't wander amongst the tons of fragrance offerings it must be special) and because it's affordably-priced here in the PH. 12nd October, 2009. |
| | Mémoire d'Homme by Nina RicciI'm a sucker for pronounced top notes, and I'd like to echo some of the reviews below ... the opening is indeed sharp, spicy and really catches attention ... distinctively masculine, great for cooler weather ... evolves into dark and smoky accord after 2-3 hours but unfortunately collapses into very mild powdery skin scent not long after (would wonder ...huh? didn't I put something on a couple hours ago?!) ... would've been a great fragrance if it had better longevity. Still a thumbs up though ! 15th September, 2009. |
| | Pleasures for Men by Estée LauderSmells good at the start yes, but too "pleasant" for my taste and does not last AT ALL on my skin. Still a noob but this smells synthetic all the way. After hanging out here at BN, I've come to realize there are better alternatives out there, especially with the price I paid for it. Not a bad scent for beginners as it won't offend anyone. 15th September, 2009. |
| | Encre Noire by LaliqueWas able to test this last weekend...Is it just me or does the drydown curiously smell like newly cut plywood? I liked how it comes off strong, dark and smoky at the start, but a couple of hours later it develops into something softer, but just as rich. It will not be liked by everyone, as I have asked some people to take a whiff of it off me (kinda polarizing, some loved it but others wrink led their noses and asked quizzically why I want to smell like a hardwood floor). Had high hopes for this frag as its praised to high heavens by some of the BNers, but I don't think this is for me...I hope not now, but someday :) 20th July, 2009. |
| | Paco Rabanne pour Homme by Paco RabanneBarbershop tonic in the best possible way. 20th July, 2009. |
| | Bois de Filao by Comptoir Sud PacifiqueBeing a noob, I can't determine to the letter yet which of the notes I'm smelling right now (I'm wearing Bois de Filao today), but when I tested it I must have taken some time for it to settle and get a good sniff out of it since the initial spray is like *arrgh ackkk* so strong, I think the top notes come on too loud. I wanted a woody scent to include in my wardrobe and ended up with this (Sud Pacifique's frags will cease to exist in Manila as the store carrying it here will discontinue carrying, so I took advantage). Add to that, after I bought it I must have re-applied and it gave me my first fragrance headache EVER. 13rd July, 2009. |
| | Alegria Hombre by Adolfo DominguezThis frag may not be groundbreaking in anyway, but I like its everyday-quality -- fun, clean, easy-to-wear and I get whiffs of it every now and then when I wear it and I just get a smile out of it. A fun melon-cucumber concoction that'll turn off the serious BNer, but hey, I'm not one of them...yet :) A scent I wear when I want to smell like a good boy hehe. 12nd July, 2009. (Last Edited: 16th March, 2010.) |
| | Lacoste (original) by LacosteIt's my Mom's fault I buy so many frags now, and this is is the culprit...my very first real frag was Lacoste Classic given to me in the early 90s. Surprised she gave me one from her trip abroad, even more surprised that her choice actually clicked with me. 30th June, 2009. |
| | Herrera for Men by Carolina HerreraFragrance can evoke tons of memories, and Carolina Herrera for Men does it for me...I think it's the one that turned me into the wonderful world of scents (not even my first "frag", Lacoste Classic, can have that uhm...honor hehe). 30th June, 2009. |
| | Black XS by Paco RabanneAppalling. Sprayed it on my wrist a tad too closely and I was under attack for 2 hours...it was screaming all over! Too fruity! 4th June, 2009. |
| | Nautica Blue by NauticaSmells a lotta sweet first whiff, but unlike the other review, this disappoints me when it comes to longevity. 3rd April, 2009. |
| | Paris Hilton for Men by Paris HiltonOnly a fun-loving flirt of a man (man-boy?) would ever like this fragrance...Yup, I'm one of them :) 3rd April, 2009. |
