Marc Jacobs for Men by Marc Jacobs

It takes an effort just to figure out what this is like, it smells hollow. It's pleasant enough overall, but at first spray I was like, "uhm...is it supposed to smell like this?". When it settled it was "this is it?" -- expected more for this frag, too bad.

    Green Water by Jacques Fath

I wanted to like this -- was hoping that a fragrance made long ago (albeit having undergone a reformulation) could translate well enough into current use. The SA told me it was herbal aromatic, and sensed promise when I skin-tested it because the initial notes reminded me of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, which I have and love. Told the SA I'd let it settle for a moment for me to enjoy it and get a feel for the drydown. 15 minutes later I had to go back and ask for a re-spray! It was gone! 2 re-sprays after and I still don't get anything aside from the sharp green opening...I already lingered around the area for quite some time, hoping that it would change or something. Nope...Oh well, gave it a shot.

    Mediterraneum by Versace

Good thing I never saw any advertising for Mediterraneum to provide me an unfair bias. And even if some of the reviewers mentioned it can be bought cheaply online or everywhere else, it's certainly not a fixture here where I'm from, in fact I found this on the bottom shelf of an obscure frag shop. Cheap notions aside, this is a great fragrance from Versace, a great take on citrus. It's not a bright, sparkly concoction, as many citrus frags out there have been doing now...it's a dark, heavy citrus that isn't cloying, like an orange that has been left out in the sun -- its opening hook is just right to bring you in, revealing a deep middle that continues to entice. On the description, it was made for / or modeled by Fabio, and interestingly enough, it might as well be. A big masculine citrus scent that doesn't take any prisoners, but isn't too brash to turn off people. I only have a 50ml bottle; it might as well be the only 50ml bottle I have that I want backup bottles of immediately.

Bulgari Aqua pour Homme by Bulgari

Very distinct aquatic scent. For me can easily distinguish it from other aquatic offerings, I don't think it's generic at all. Great quality frag. Longevity on me is very good (3 sprays in the morning, I can still smell it around 2PM -- this is already very good for me, since I'm a smoker and my skin absorbs scents like hell). In the Philippines where aquatic is king (because of the freakin' hot and humid weather), this is one of my staples and go-to frags.

Funny, someone passed by me on the Metro train and got a whiff of his scent. Ended up following him for a bit because I was trying to make out he was wearing, coz it smelled so familiar. I quit after a minute, it's so familiar 'coz its Bulgari Aqua.

    Heliotrope by Etro

Unfortunately doesn't make it on my active rotation list, even if I own a full bottle...made a mistake of testing only once and taking advantage of a small discount for Etro items at the high-end dept store here (I passed on the Messe de Minuit and New Tradition). Untrained nose I am, but can pick out the almonds, vanilla, white musk...To me somewhat syrupy and thick at the start...not appropriate for most days here in Manila (humid most of the time...think sticky white icing on skin in the heat? Not good)...Hope my mind changes bout it by Christmas time, when the weather is cooler, this seems more appropriate by then. Good fall fragrance (for those with 4 seasons)...Good move up for those stuck on generic vanilla brands (aka VS and Bath&Body, which are crazy popular here). Still kinda glad I have it though, as nothing in my current 'drobe is similar to this.

    Moschino Friends Men by Moschino

A sad effort by Moschino...I so wanted to like it because of a friends' recommendation (it's the only scent he wears, which is pretty sad...but I thought if his nose doesn't wander amongst the tons of fragrance offerings it must be special) and because it's affordably-priced here in the PH.

Agree that it's citrus yes. I got that an hour or so after first spray. But the metallic note that won't go away was just so potent, I kept on hoping on my next sniff it could've evolved but no such luck. Like a steel bar hit me on the head and for some weird reason was stuck to my nose...with a slight peekaboo citrus-woods scent after a while, but still...As consolation I just thought it doesn't match my body chemistry. Test before buying.

    Mémoire d'Homme by Nina Ricci

I'm a sucker for pronounced top notes, and I'd like to echo some of the reviews below ... the opening is indeed sharp, spicy and really catches attention ... distinctively masculine, great for cooler weather ... evolves into dark and smoky accord after 2-3 hours but unfortunately collapses into very mild powdery skin scent not long after (would wonder ...huh? didn't I put something on a couple hours ago?!) ... would've been a great fragrance if it had better longevity. Still a thumbs up though !

Pleasures for Men by Estée Lauder

Smells good at the start yes, but too "pleasant" for my taste and does not last AT ALL on my skin. Still a noob but this smells synthetic all the way. After hanging out here at BN, I've come to realize there are better alternatives out there, especially with the price I paid for it. Not a bad scent for beginners as it won't offend anyone.

    Encre Noire by Lalique

Was able to test this last weekend...Is it just me or does the drydown curiously smell like newly cut plywood? I liked how it comes off strong, dark and smoky at the start, but a couple of hours later it develops into something softer, but just as rich. It will not be liked by everyone, as I have asked some people to take a whiff of it off me (kinda polarizing, some loved it but others wrink led their noses and asked quizzically why I want to smell like a hardwood floor). Had high hopes for this frag as its praised to high heavens by some of the BNers, but I don't think this is for me...I hope not now, but someday :)

Paco Rabanne pour Homme by Paco Rabanne

Barbershop tonic in the best possible way.
Great green fragrance. Good opening, sharp, crisp and still maintains a personality even when it mellows out. I still get the green long after the first spritz, I don't get the usual tonka bean/musk/amber "warm and cozy" feeling I usually associate with this combo. Pleasantly surprised at the longevity, left behind a faint skin smell even after I showered (so minimal reapplication required for regular use). For something that has been around for ages in the fragrance world, IMO still has a place in a modern man's wardrobe. Was looking for an older frag to join my relatively young frag wardrobe, and this would be the first in line of an older gen to join its ranks :)

Bois de Filao by Comptoir Sud Pacifique

Being a noob, I can't determine to the letter yet which of the notes I'm smelling right now (I'm wearing Bois de Filao today), but when I tested it I must have taken some time for it to settle and get a good sniff out of it since the initial spray is like *arrgh ackkk* so strong, I think the top notes come on too loud. I wanted a woody scent to include in my wardrobe and ended up with this (Sud Pacifique's frags will cease to exist in Manila as the store carrying it here will discontinue carrying, so I took advantage). Add to that, after I bought it I must have re-applied and it gave me my first fragrance headache EVER.

It's been 3, 4 hours since the initial spray and I think it has settled quite ok, ditto on the "scrubber" quality, it just stays there really, no need to re-apply after a cig or two. Note to those who might be interested, one chest and one back spray is ALL you need. It seems I do one small movement and I get to smell it, like reminding me "hello, I'm your frag today". It may be the combo of filao wood, amber and white musk I'm smelling now, it IS a rather sweet wood, not as dark and grainy as I would've liked (errr...which I shouldn't expect from a vanilla house like Comptoir)

I'm giving it a neutral as of now, as I'm a sucker for longevity. Another headache caused by this and hello, thumbs down.

    Top: lemon, bergamot, papyrus
    Mid: baie rose, violet leaf
Base: patchouli, filao wood, amber, white musk

    Alegria Hombre by Adolfo Dominguez

This frag may not be groundbreaking in anyway, but I like its everyday-quality -- fun, clean, easy-to-wear and I get whiffs of it every now and then when I wear it and I just get a smile out of it. A fun melon-cucumber concoction that'll turn off the serious BNer, but hey, I'm not one of them...yet :) A scent I wear when I want to smell like a good boy hehe.

    Lacoste (original) by Lacoste

It's my Mom's fault I buy so many frags now, and this is is the culprit...my very first real frag was Lacoste Classic given to me in the early 90s. Surprised she gave me one from her trip abroad, even more surprised that her choice actually clicked with me.

Although Carolina Herrera for Men was the one that really turned me on to the world of frags, I'll always remember Lacoste Classic as a fitting initiation when I got it in high school -- sharp and powerful at the start, comforting yet with an edge at the end. I don't have a bottle now, I think I've moved on to fougeres...and I'm currently loving my citrus-y Adolfo Dominguez Agua Fresca...but if I get bitten by the nostalgia bug, I just might get another bottle just for old times' sake.

Herrera for Men by Carolina Herrera

Fragrance can evoke tons of memories, and Carolina Herrera for Men does it for me...I think it's the one that turned me into the wonderful world of scents (not even my first "frag", Lacoste Classic, can have that uhm...honor hehe).

As a fan of fougeres this is right up my alley, and the tobacco note just adds to its warm-fuzzy quality (I also own D&G PH and Versace The Dreamer, I seem to be a fan). Great for bed-weather nights (its drydown is comforting and just asks for a snuggle-fest), romantic dates and dinners with friends wherein one has to turn up the charm and the sophisticate factor :) Have had several compliments on this one...A scent that'll never be absent from my collection.

    Black XS by Paco Rabanne

Appalling. Sprayed it on my wrist a tad too closely and I was under attack for 2 hours...it was screaming all over! Too fruity!
Coincidentally, on my drive back home I had raspberry flavored candy in my mouth...was beginning to think if the candy...the smell on my wrist...Nah, couldn't be...Only to find out it does smell like raspberry (ultra strong) from the reviews here on the site.
I wanted to like this frag based on the reviews here, but it was just too overpowering at the start, and too fruity-weird up to finish.

    Nautica Blue by Nautica

Smells a lotta sweet first whiff, but unlike the other review, this disappoints me when it comes to longevity.
Only reason why I bought it is my sister (who's a student) likes it but can't afford to buy it yet hehe.
Good everyday, after-the-shower kind of scent but not one to impress, scent easily replicated by more mass-market brands.

Paris Hilton for Men by Paris Hilton

Only a fun-loving flirt of a man (man-boy?) would ever like this fragrance...Yup, I'm one of them :)
I agree, it feels kinda dirty that I like a Paris Hilton fragrance, but with a couple already under her belt (which aren't half bad), I guess she has a *slight* knack for this :)
I don't smell the cucumber...more watermelon to me.
Doesn't last very long, but I enjoy taking a shot and a whiff every now and then, has a !zing to it :)
And girls love it! (they do want to borrow it though and have spray of it...not sure if that's a good or a bad thing)...
Sorry guys, but ...2 thumbs up for Paris for this one :)
