Halston Z-14 by Halston
I have always loved this fragrance in the dry down. When you first apply it, however, it smells overbearing and harsh. A few sprays will do because it is strong and lasts a long time on the skin. I am surprised at how sophisticated an inexpensive fragrance can smell.

Summer Night by Canali
A gossamer version of Black Diamond. That "salad" of ingredients creates a misty and flirtatious beauty of a fragrance. A sensuously evocative deja vu. I love it!

Jako by Lagerfeld
Judging from the notes in the pyramid, I would imagine this to be an intense, more complex fragrance. On the contrary, it is a limpid and lovely, gourmand-like cologne. I wore this when it first came out, and I've recently re-purchased it. I had forgotten why I used up my first bottle so fast. It is sweet, with the "woodsy" undertones becoming more prominent in the dry down, however not enough to dominate the purity the fragrance suggests. It is definitely a casual or summertime fragrance. Its sensuous bouquet lingers, but it is never cloying. I cannot imagine anyone not liking this fragrance, just as I can't imagine anyone wanting to wear a scent like Beyond Paradise. The lady at the perfume store told me Jako was discontinued. If this is true, that is really a shame.

Lacoste (original) by Lacoste
Probably the original "summer" scent. It is purity and freshness in a serene and refined soapy-citrus balm. It is very strong and long-lasting, so a couple of sprays suffice. Wear this and you'll smell freshly bathed and splendidly fragrant.

Allure Homme Sport by Chanel
I purchased AHS and wore it a couple of times, but I was never really impressed. I could not detect any salient notes or characteristics. I put it away and forgot about it. Recently, I smelled it on someone else, and I could not believe it was the same fragrance. I smelled a gorgeous citrus harmony and an elusively "alluring" rich creamy accord. It positively radiated warmth and refinement. My opinion of this beauty has definitely been upgraded.

Ange ou Démon by Givenchy
I smelled this on a friend. She doesn't care for loud fragrance. It is a beautiful and delicious gourmand scent. I imagine the dry down is lovelier than my impression, since she had just put it on.

English Leather by Dana
This was truly the Frankenstein fragrance of my youth. I loathed getting this as a gift. This scent screams, " I am cheap and loud." I once knew someone who put a bottle of this in his air conditioning unit and regretted it for a week. I cannot believe this monstrosity is still around.

Tabu by Dana
Whenever I smell this I think of old ladies, wilted flowers, prostitutes and death. Not in that order, necessarily. The cough and gag reflex immediately sets in. I am sure this fragrance is banned in heaven. Two thumbs way down.

Red Door by Elizabeth Arden
My ex-boss used to wear this, and I could smell her two offices away. The whole room filled with the bouquet when she walked in. Did I like it? Yes, indeed.

Baldessarini Ambré by Baldessarini
Pleasant enough, but Michael Kors captured what this fragrance is seeking.

Bulgari Aqua pour Homme by Bulgari
Salty-sweet sea breezes. Elegance and sweat. A weird ocean voyage!

Opium pour Homme by Yves Saint Laurent
I liked this the first time I smelled it on a coworker. On me, however, it smelled musty and cloying. It gave me a headache and I washed it off immediately. Nauseating. A major disappointment.

YSL pour Homme by Yves Saint Laurent
I am wearing this fragrance on my wrist as I write. I am aware of the exalted status, deservedly so, that this cologne has for many, and I daren't criticize it freely, but I do have one concern. There is a "dirty" note in this juice that is a bit disconcerting to me. It gives the scent an earthiness that is at odds with the other notes in it. It is a sexy note, but coarse or unrefined. I say this with trepidation because otherwise it is a fabulous and unique perfume. I love the lemon and verbena-like aspect I detect. Yves Saint Laurent was a brilliantly iconoclastic, and forward-looking designer, and his first fragrance reflects the verve of his innovative style. I would never give this wonderful tonic less than an enthusiastic thumbs up.

Zino Davidoff by Davidoff
I recently purchased this again after many years, and boy, was I wowed! I'd forgotten how gorgeous this stuff is. It is a gloriously fresh and floral bouquet inspired with lovely woods and subtle patchouli. JaimeB describes the notes and character of this fragrance articulately and eloquently; this is at once an engaging and intoxicating scent. It sells for much less than it is worth on internet fragrance sites. Zino Davidoff is singular masculine sophistication at its finest, and it is appropriate for any occasion, formal or casual. I wish I could give it more than a thumbs up. Enthusiastically recommended.

Blue Jeans by Versace
I smelled this the first time on an airline steward reaching over and helping the passenger next to me. I thought it was one of the most delightful fragrances I'd ever smelled, and I asked him what he was wearing. I just bought it again after more than ten years and it smells better than ever. It is a harmonious blend of soft woods, lavender and ripe citrus notes. It is at once innocent and sophisticated. A winner!

Déclaration by Cartier
I sprayed this on for the first time at a department store tonight, and I really regret doing so. The scent is very overbearing and cloying with a dingy-dirty feral smell. It reminds of a Tommy Bahama fragrance, but I'm not sure which one. These are the type of fragrances that I keep away from because of the putrid images that they evoke. I would definitely recommend wearing this on the wrist for a while before purchasing this disturbing concoction. Fetid stuff.

Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker
I find so many women's fragrances too floral and cloying. There are very few that I buy as gifts, because I find them overdone. I was shopping for an Xmas gift once and I smelled this one. I didn't buy it as a gift, but I remember being impressed by the glorious bouquet. It smelled very classy and sophisticated, yet piquant and pure, and like Cashmere Mist, ultra-feminine. I need to go back and take a whiff of this one again. It has lingered in my memory.

Nicole Miller for Men by Nicole Miller
I see this all the time at TJ Maxx. Never paid much attention to it, bought it blind because it was on clearance. I like it, but it does smell like a lot of other colognes. Maybe this is an original fragrance that was imitated a lot. There is a slight "boozy" aspect to it as others have pointed out, but my overall impression is that of a sweet and somewhat musky oriental fragrance with muted fruit notes. I haven't experienced its sillage, dry down or longevity. I'm glad I purchased it.
18 May 2009
Rochas Man by Rochas
Bright, refined and casual. I generally like Rochas fragrances, and this is one of their finest. It does smell delicious without overdoing it, as other gourmand fragrances do.
16 May 2009
Kenzo pour Homme by Kenzo
I purchased this blind some time ago and I can still recall my first impression; a rubber-like synthetic flower. There was no attempt to capture any natural scent with this one. Walking into the showroom of a tire store recently brought back the memory of Kenzo to my mind. It might appeal to anyone who likes the smell of a new car interior, but that probably smells better than this scent. One of the weirdest colognes I've ever come across.
16 May 2009
Roots for Him by Roots
Very Nice, cooly green and kind of elegant. Roots products are high quality and this cologne reflects their integrity. Recommended.
16 May 2009
Lapidus pour Homme by Ted Lapidus
The fruity notes in this are really cloying. It has a loud cheap overbearing presence. It smells like an old lady's fragrance; really musty and stale I really regret this purchase.
16 May 2009
Lauder for Men by Estée Lauder
It doesn't matter when, where, or why, wear this and you will always be the epitome of sophistication. All of the notes rush to the fore in a ravishingly clear and crisp bouquet. A singularly debonaire and timeless fragrance. Together with Metropolis, Lauder's masculine masterpiece.
12 May 2009
L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme by Guerlain
Whenever I smell this sprayed on paper or on my clothing, I love it. The "green notes" are a lovely accompaniment to complex woods. When I wear it, however, I smell Pledge on an antique bureau. It seems like a very "old" fragrance, perhaps from Edwardian England. I am reluctant to give it anything but a thumbs up because it really is an intriguing and handsome scent from a quality house. It was just not intended for my body chemistry. My misfortune.
12 May 2009
Beyond Paradise for Men by Estée Lauder
I have tried this on at department stores numerous times, but I can't get past the initial shock of a cat urine-like stench. It does dry down to a more complex composition, but there is that feral sub-odor that repulses my olfactory sensibility and makes me gag. This scent is a cross-blending of beauty and depravity, intended for the Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde-type personality. Beyond Belief is what I call it. What were they thinking?
12 May 2009
CK In 2U Him by Calvin Klein
If this smells like bug spray, then bug spray I will wear. I agree with the positive comments; it is light and creamy with sweet notes and gentle woods. Self-effacing and innocuous, it is a wonderfully pleasant casual fragrance. It is probably intended for the younger crowd, but anyone can wear it because it is utterly ingratiating. Perhaps bug spray is smelling too good nowadays.
26 April 2009
Jazz by Yves Saint Laurent
I had never smelled Jazz until recently. Definitely my loss. I bought it on the spot. It is a splendid example of masculine elegance. I agree with "mrclmind" that this is a fragrance that mesmerizes in the dry down. The sandalwood and leather stand out, but they are mitigated by the other lovely notes surrounding them. Yes, this is YSL's most wonderful creation, ever. That is saying a lot. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
18 April 2009
Reaction for Men by Kenneth Cole
I was at a store today and I smelled this on someone, and I found it enthralling. I had to ask him what he was wearing. I've never liked this when I've smelled it in department stores, but smelling it on someone I am impressed. A light gorgeous, musky powdery sillage. I need to reconsider this one.

PS by Paul Sebastian
Compared to some of the outlandish colognes for men out there today, this smells ultra-refined. I don't understand some of the vitriol and diatribe against this fragrance by other reviewers. It is not saccharine or fetid, and it does not smell dated. Perhaps after smelling every fruit note and arcane outre essence imaginable, one's nose is no longer attuned to what an honest and singular men's fragrance should be. Smart and genteel without pretense or apologies, is what PS is.

Bulgari pour Homme Extreme by Bulgari
A salesperson at Nordstrom told me he couldn't stand this fragrance because all he got from it was pine needles. There is a Christmas tree-like air to it, but it is the Darjeeling that comes to the fore. I like the bouquet of aromatic leaves, but I am not convinced that I should smell like an elegant cup of tea all day. I do like this brew, and I know it probably smells wonderful on others, I just don't want others to smell it on me. My bottle sits forlornly lamenting my neglect.
24 February 2009
Rive Gauche pour Homme by Yves Saint Laurent
Wow! This is a stunningly original and appealing fragrance. Luxurious 'barber shop' is how I define it. It is fresh, metallic, and assertively masculine. Definitely a head turner. What took YSL so long to come up with Rive Gauche for men? It was well worth the wait. Two thumbs up!
24 February 2009
Lime, Basil & Mandarin by Jo Malone
I remember cheap colognes from the seventies that smelled like cheap lime candy. This cologne comes perilously close to that extreme, but it is redeemed by quality ingredients and masterful blending. Its initial application is a shock, but it evolves into assertive, but attractive, citrus wallow. I would wear this to a summer evening concert, classy barbecue, or nice club. It is definitely unisex, but for the bold, self-assured or effusively outgoing of either gender.
24 February 2009
Hypnôse Homme by Lancôme
Looking at the note pyramid I am not able to discern any of the individual notes, maybe for musk. It is harmoniously blended, or not too densely textured. That said, it is a very agreeable and completely warm and affable scent. I wouldn't rush to apply it as a first choice, but it seems suitable for almost any occasion. I do not detect any 'synthetic' characteristic at all. It has a refined and delicious sillage.
24 February 2009
23 by Michael Jordan
This is a lovely fragrance, perhaps a bit too feminine. I smell a roses and violet-like floral which is very prominent. Don't buy it blind, but if you do and you don't care for it, pass it along to your girlfriend, wife, or female friend.
22 February 2009
KL Homme by Lagerfeld
KL Homme is a sophisticated powdery and tangy oriental. It reminds me of Estee Lauder women's fragrances, especially Youth Dew. This fragrance, however, is complex, masculine and long-lasting. The rich bouquet is very prominent, so a few sprays will do, unless you want to announce your presence in a grand manner. It's a pity that this wasn't more popular, it's a classy scent. A discontinued treasure from Lagerfeld.
22 February 2009
Esencia Loewe by Loewe
I do not like this as much as I thought I would. It is certainly sophisticated enough, but the pungent character hits a discordant note. The couple of times I've worn this I am aware of its assertive, yet unusual tone. I do like the "green" in this fragrance, but the "moss and herbs" smell too earthy, verging on dirty, rubbish-bin like.
22 February 2009
Quiksilver by Quiksilver
The eucalyptus-like scent on this is overwhelming. It is too medicinal-smelling on first application. The dry down doesn't reveal much else to my nose. I love the Quiksilver brand, so this is a disappointment. I'll go back to the store and give it another chance.
22 February 2009
Michael for Men by Michael Kors
This fragrance has a fantastic dry down and it's very long-lasting. There is a strong bourbon-like character to the initial application, but there are so many masculine and sumptuous notes in this brew that mitigate that aspect, that it doesn't overwhelm the bouquet. It is thoroughly sophisticated and decidedly headier and more virile than other more popular scents. Michael Kors is underrated and overlooked, unfortunately. It is definitely suitable for evening wear.
22 February 2009
Ferré for Him by Gianfranco Ferré
Sublime. It smells like "The Dreamer" in a way, but much more sophisticated and substantial. Whenever I wear this beauty, I am constantly smelling my wrist to take in more of its delightful bouquet. A saleswoman brought this one to my attention, and I am so grateful she did. A stunningly gorgeous cohesion of all of its notes. Definitely recommended.
08 February 2009
Rochas Lui by Rochas
I want to like this one because I like Rochas' scents. There is a note in this that smells musty to me. Otherwise, it is an interesting melange. It probably smells better on others.
25 January 2009
Horizon by Guy Laroche
Refreshing and different. It smells better in the dry down because its first impact is a little harsh and chemical smelling. Very long lasting. A rich, herbal and sweet bouquet. Don't buy it blind, but buy it cheap.
16 January 2009
Quorum by Antonio Puig
Sexy and civilized. This always elicits positive comments when I wear it. It dries down wonderfully. How do the Spanish manage to create such original fragrances?
16 January 2009
Gucci pour Homme by Gucci
Yuk! Pencil shavings and suffocating church-like incense. What were they thinking? Suitable for a gothic funeral.
16 January 2009
Guess Man by Guess
There are notes in this that are cloying and ruin the character of the essence. An annoying melange.
16 January 2009
Nobile by Gucci
Gucci discontinued this beauty in order to make way for a parade of mediocre fragrances. I don't get it. I regret not buying this the last time I saw it in a store, at a discount price. One of the most distinctive scents ever created.
16 January 2009
Cashmere Mist by Donna Karan
Cashmere Mist is the olfactory apotheosis of a pure femininity. Its rich creamy, soapy smell makes me almost want to wear it, but this is definitely not a unisex fragrance. I have identified it on others, it stands out so gorgeously. Lofty and luscious, this is a ravishingly innocent scent.
16 January 2009
DKNY Men (original) by Donna Karan
I absolutely love this brew. Oddly, I agree with some of the negative comments I've read; there is a chemical undertone to it. However, there is one note in this that stands out (ivy leaf?), and imbues the fragrance with an exotic air that I've never found in any other scent. I cannot figure out what it is. I realize this is a completely subjective appeal, so I would never recommend a blind purchase of DKNY. The bottle is tall and elegant, but impractical.
16 January 2009
Azygos by Azygos
I smelled this once and I will never forget my impression; screaming with the most fervent, pungent and cloying notes imaginable. Apply daintily with a pinkie tip.
15 January 2009
Azzaro pour Homme by Azzaro
I tried to bond with this one, and I do appreciate its wonderful bouquet. But it was too overbearing for me to wear. This is a cologne with a huge, effusive, rambunctious character. Best worn by the most outgoing of personalities. It has a divine dry down.
15 January 2009
Paco Rabanne pour Homme by Paco Rabanne
It sometimes seems futile to compare or rate fragrance. One's subjectivity many times depends on memories and emotions that a scent can inspire. Paco Rabanne is probably full of powerful nostalgia for many. It was ubiquitous in the 70's, and I never tired of its ethereal appeal. Its popularity has assured it the status as one of the all time classic fragrances. I can smell it in my mind, just thinking about it. I no longer wear it, but when I get the occasional whiff of it , it is like a joyfully beautiful cliche. Will there ever be a fragrance as iconically sophisticated as this was? There should be a shrine dedicated to this one.
15 January 2009
Armani Eau Pour Homme by Giorgio Armani
Boring. It smells, suspiciously, like the original eau de colognes, such as 4711. Armani broke no new ground with this fragrance, and it has survived, I suspect, on the strength and cachet of the designer name. It does not assert itself with any distinction, and remains as generic smelling as a man's fragrance can get.
15 January 2009
Adolfo Dominguez by Adolfo Dominguez
While I enjoy Adolfo Dominguez's other fragrances for men, this smells like pencil shavings on my skin. The dry down is harsh and the longevity is terrible. Unfortunately, there are no redeeming qualities here.
14 January 2009
Présence by Mont Blanc
There is something disturbingly incongruent and pungent in the mixture of this perfume's notes. Immediately cloying, I had to wash it off the first time I sprayed it on. I can't figure out why I dislike this fragrance so intensely. Loud and dissonant, it is inappropriate for formal occasions. Mont Blanc should stick to writing instruments.
14 January 2009
Dunhill Pursuit by Alfred Dunhill
Classy and refined, as are all Dunhill products. It reminds me of one of the Lacoste fragrances. It has a rich bouquet and a wonderful sillage.
14 January 2009
Dunhill Fresh by Alfred Dunhill
A pleasant fragrance, a bit sharp at first. Dunhill fragrances have an air of refinement, regardless of the notes. However, it is not worth paying top dollar, since it is readily available at a discount.
14 January 2009
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue pour Homme by Dolce & Gabbana
As mediocre and insipid as a major fragrance can get. Its imitations smell better, sad to say. Dolce and Gabbana create the blandest fragrances of any prestigious house. I expect so much more from the Italians. It has no distinction when applied, a completely amorphous scent. The sillage and dry down are a joke. Non mi piace nulla.
14 January 2009
Colors Uomo by Benetton
A casual fragrance with an air of distinction. Its familiar notes are beautifully blended. The green notes fuse deliciously with the patchouli and vanilla. Delightful and captivating. Worth much more than you will ever pay.
14 January 2009
Monsieur Balmain (new) by Pierre Balmain
Exalted Lemon Pledge. A hundred freshly squeezed lemons. A yellow gingham tablecloth on a lemonade stand. That's what comes to mind at first whiff. The dry down muffles and mutes the overbearing bright opening somewhat, but I still feel the shocking yellow presence. There is a hint of wood in the midst of the citron, and I suppose the scent morphs over time. Perhaps I need to give this one more time.
14 January 2009
Coriolan by Guerlain
I bought this on sale and I was a little disappointed when I tried it the first time, it was a blind purchase. It smelled generic. I wore it to a formal function once and received many compliments from someone who usually detests strong fragrance. I've worn it many times since then and now appreciate its complexity and fine champagne-like dry down. A wonderfully integrated composition where the notes blend harmoniously producing a fine and elegant linear accord. Attractive bottle.
14 January 2009
Magnetism for Men by Escada
It smells like grape juice or some kind of soft drink when you first get a whiff. After a while its character evolves into something more exotic and sophisticated, something woody tempered by muted fruit notes. This is one of the most difficult fragrances to characterize because it is so unlike any other scent. There is a certain brooding yet genial aspect to it, along with a familiar allure. I prefer to wear this in the winter because of a melancholy feeling it inspires. However, others would probably wear it anytime. I would not recommend a blind purchase.
14 January 2009
Brit for Men by Burberry
It smells wonderful when first applied and the sillage is delightful. It is sweet but heady, with bright and creamy accords. However, after a while it becomes too cloying, and I have the urge to wash it off. I love it, but I don't like wearing it. It works well as an opulent car freshener, better than the selections at the car wash.
13 January 2009
Casual for Men by Paul Sebastian
A thoroughly agreeable and pleasant fragrance. It dries down to a rich, clean-smelling bouquet. I have received many compliments wearing this, and it lasts all day.
13 January 2009
Ricci Club by Nina Ricci
This is a unique scent. Very appealing, warm and lovely. All of the notes blend beautifully and complement each other producing a genial bouquet. This is probably the finest citrus scent I've ever smelled. This fragrance deserves to be more popular. Two thumbs up!
13 January 2009
Balenciaga pour Homme by Balenciaga
I once wore this to a party at work and someone walked in and asked who had sprayed Black Flag in the room. I never wore it again. I liked the fragrance, but I did not want to suffer that kind of humiliation again. Perhaps too outre for its own good.
13 January 2009
Agua Fresca by Adolfo Dominguez
A pleasant woodsy and citrus fragrance. There is a hint of a medicinal aspect to its notes, but agreeable, nonetheless. It reminds me of herbs set out to dry. Unique and unusual. However, like all of Adolfo Dominguez' fragrances, the longevity is not very good.
13 January 2009
Vetiver Hombre by Adolfo Dominguez
A beauty of a fragrance. The quintessential Spanish fragrance; sophisticated, yet alluring and piquant. The only thing it has in common with Guerlain Vetiver is the name. This Vetiver is not as strong, and unfortunately not as long lasting, as its French cousin, but it's just as classy. You can wear this refined and understated scent on any special occasion. Worth seeking out.
13 January 2009
Abercrombie & Fitch Woods by Abercrombie & Fitch
I love this fragrance. It is a grand bouquet of woody and fresh notes. What a shame that it is discontinued. I've got a quarter of a bottle left, and wear it maybe once a year. Gorgeous.
13 January 2009
Zirh Ikon by Zirh
I purchased Ikon for a ridiculously low price. I like it a lot. It reminds me of the heady fragrances of the eighties, but perhaps not as bold. I love the intermingling of the ginger, incense, citrus and clove notes; they harmonize beautifully. It is a dark fragrance, but I enjoy it for everyday use. Longevity is very good.
13 January 2009
Calandre by Paco Rabanne
A unique fragrance. I know someone who used to wear this all the time, and I couldn't stop getting close to her to smell the mysterious and evocative fragrance. No other women's fragrance can capture the classiness and strange melange of the metallic, floral and fresh as this scent does. It instantly evokes a feeling of well-being and nostalgia to me. Wear this to the opera, a picnic, or a romantic rendezvous, it is appropriate for every occasion. Love it!
26 November 2008
Gianfranco Ferré for Man by Gianfranco Ferré
I don't understand how anyone could consider a classic fragrance such as this dated. It has a suave hushed elegance, that is so unlike the other loud fragrances from the 1980's. Powdery, understated and utterly refined in a masculine manner, this is what I imagine Luchino Visconti or Carlo Bergonzi wore. A wonderful amalgamation of its notes, I consider this fragrance almost too lovely to wear. Bravissimo!
24 November 2008
Yatagan by Caron
All I smell is celery, celery, celery. Where are the other notes? If Yatagan were a religion, I would gladly pay the price of heresy. A disturbing fragrance, concocted with a malicious intent. This brew is sour and dour and wears a big frown. Wear it when you go in for a tax audit, or have root canal work done; it will put you in an uncomfortable state of mind. This is what the jaded and gruff guy working the graveyard shift at the liquor store would wear. Take it away and bury it!
24 November 2008
Story by Paul Smith
Got this super cheap at Marshall's, a discount on a discount. Bought it blind. I was prepared for the worst, but I was delightfully surprised when I sprayed it on. It has a fresh and understated fruity smell when you smell it the first time; nice interplay of the green accord. It reminds me of Live Jazz, but not as pronounced a fragrance. It is pleasant, casual, and somewhat sensual. The dry down is lovely with the cedar note being a definite plus. Unusual bottle. Highly recommended.
23 November 2008
Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene
A strong herbaceous odor overwhelms you when you first spray it on. As someone else stated, it is probably wise to spray it on only twice or three times. It settles down to a lovely woody scent with a fresh soapy base. It is like walking through lush fragrant ferns after a rain. I did not like this fragrance when I smelled it years ago, but I can appreciate its complexity and sophistication now. A beautiful old cliche that will never go out of style.
19 November 2008
Everlast Original 1910 by Everlast
You can buy this very cheaply. But even if they were giving it away, I imagine some would politely refuse it. I was a little apprehensive as to how a cologne would smell produced by the Everlast company. Thank goodness they didn't go with the aromas associated with the force, tension and masses associated with a heavyweight fight. That said, it is a slightly attractive and inoffensive fragrance. Who knows what target customer they had in mind, but I imagine its appeal was very limited, that's why I see so much of it available at a discount. Wait a little longer and you might get a 3.3 oz. bottle for less than $3. Wear it on a casual occasion when you can't decide what else to wear.
16 November 2008
Narciso Rodriguez for Him by Narciso Rodriguez
Very strong violet mixed with patchouli and other essence. It is a unique fragrance, unlike anything before it. It smells classy and beautiful to me, but I can understand why some would consider it disturbing and overdone. I have a bottle, but have worn it only once. It is, in my mind, an evening fragrance. The Cole Porter line, "you're the purple light of a summer night in Spain," comes to mind when I smell this, or the De Falla piece, "Noches en los Jardines de Espana." It could have been created by the Spanish house of Loewe, it is heady like their colognes. Very opaque like the bottle that contains it.
16 November 2008
Fahrenheit by Christian Dior
Strong and penetrating, it permeates the air around you with an overbearing pungency. It reminds me of gasoline accidently spilled on the ground, or on your hands at the pump. It is loud and strident, but it certainly has its fans. Unfortunately, this is from the fragrance house that makes two outstanding men's fragrances: Dior Homme and Eau Sauvage. Fahrenheit is no Cinderella, but it should definitely be kept out of sight and camouflaged. Along with Pi, a towering mistake from Dior.
16 November 2008
Samba for Men by Perfumer's Workshop
Very, very nice. The lavender and ylang ylang are prominent and lovely. It is inexpensive, but there is nothing cheap smelling about this fragrance. It's well worth the money. Better smelling than colognes costing five times as much!
14 November 2008
Caron Pour Un Homme by Caron
This is just too raw. It smells like lavender and wet hay. It has a very old fashioned, dated, smell of a barber shop. It is definitely one dimensional. The dry down is terrible. How the heck this is considered a classic is a mystery to me. I smelled Yatagan also, and I was repulsed. Yatagan has a celery-like and strong cheap wood smell. Not good. I love The Third Man, but Pour Un Homme has no olfactory redeeming qualities to my nose. I am sorry to say that this is one of the worst masculine fragrances I've ever inhaled. I cannot imagine any female wearing, or wanting to wear this tonic. A zero.
14 November 2008
Adolfo for Men by Frances Denney
Very assertive and eighties. I love the lemon in this, I usually don't care for lemon essence, it is prominent in the opening notes and subdued in the background afterward. Beautiful dry down with heady musk and leather dominating. Unfortunately the spray bottle I bought leaks. I'd never heard of this cologne, but I loved it as soon as I put it on. Opulent and refined.
06 November 2008
Perry Ellis 18 Man by Perry Ellis
I got this cheap, and I like it a lot. It's a fresh, kind of sweet, but elegant fragrance. I definitely recommend it, especially if bought at a discount price.
02 November 2008
Number 3 / Le 3me Homme / The Third Man by Caron
A rich, voluptuous bouquet with the lavender deftly harmonized with the other notes. I disagree with Tina Sanchez, this fragrance is not too beautiful for a man to wear, on the contrary, it is too wonderful not too enjoy. Very long-lasting and assertive. To use a Luca Turin classical music metaphor, this is a fragrance as grand and glorious as Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique. A joy to wear.
26 October 2008
Monsieur de Givenchy by Givenchy
A classic fragrance. The fresh citric notes harmonize wonderfully, and the sandalwood dry down is one of the best of any fragrance. Is there any modern eau de toilette that exudes panache and sophistication like MdG?
26 October 2008
Candie's Men by Candie's
A thoroughly pleasant, great-smelling fragrance. The perfect summer fragrance.

Hei by Alfred Sung
Yes, it can be bought cheaply, but it is a perfectly acceptable fragrance. It does smell a little generic, but pleasant, nonetheless.

Givenchy Gentleman by Givenchy
This is an elegantly masculine fragrance. The masterful blend of patchouli, vetiver and Russian leather produce a scent unlike any other. The dry down is incredibly gorgeous. Whenever I wear this, I receive positive comments and feel sophisticated. It has great longevity and a wonderful sillage. This is one of my favorite fragrances of all time.

Black Diamond by Canali
Yummy! This is a delicious brew that has impressive longevity. It is close to Hanae Mori, but richer and smoother. This is a voluptuous fragrance that requires an occasion; the opera, opening night, a special anniversary. Not for everyday use.

Caesars Man by Caesars World
Loud, brash and ultimately generic smelling. It reminds me of Houbigant's Duc De Vervins, with Duc being the refined, cosmopolitan, genteel cousin.

Design for Men by Paul Sebastian
Not bad, but quite ordinary. Can be bought very cheap, but it's kind of a poor man's Adolfo Dominguez.

Oscar de la Renta pour Lui by Oscar de la Renta
I remember wearing this fragrance and loving it, and I still think it is a lovely scent. It has, however, not aged well for me. It smells much to heady and overpowering for my temperament now. It is a nostalgia that I'd rather not attempt to capture anymore. Oscar de la Renta never replicated the magic that was in this perfume.

Gendarme Sky by Gendarme
I always stop and take a whiff off Sky when I am at Macy's, I haven't purchased it yet. It is a unique fragrance; pure, fresh, honest, and ever so clean. I would wear this as a personal treat to myself. I can imagine free-spirited and self-effacing people wearing this, it smells unisex, and they would get my smile of approval. Lovely and refreshing, this limpid tonic deserves a classier bottle.

Iquitos by Alain Delon
I cannot believe that there are no negative reviews for this awful juice. It does smell like juice; grape juice that's been left out in the hot sun for a week. I first smelled Iquitos at a friends house- I was paralyzed in stunned silence for a minute, and said nothing when he asked me what I thought. Go to Macy's and douse yourself with all of the testers and this is what you'll smell like. Really rancid, in-your-face, and obnoxious. A demon's elixir.

Versace l'Homme by Versace
This has always reminded me of Youth Dew by Lauder, not a flattering comparison, necessarily. It is an overt, creamy, voluptuous fragrance for a man, wonderfully balancing the floral and wood notes. This is definitely a fragrance for a special occasion or date. Not intended for the meek or bashful. Versace's best masculine fragrance so far.

Tabac Original by Mäurer & Wirtz
This is the perfect fragrance to wear to a family reunion - if you despise your relatives. This stuff is cloying, outdated and has an intoxicatingly sickly scent. I tried to use it as car deodorant and bathroom spray, but I couldn't stand it. I threw it away. It makes me shudder.

Prada Amber pour Homme by Prada
The first time I smelled this it reminded me of a Chinese gift shop; sweet, pungent incense. That was a shallow impression, however. Prada Amber Pour Homme is one of the most intriguing and complex fragrances out there. The ingredients are masterfully balanced and harmonized, and the result is a unique beauty quite unlike any other men's fragrance. It is soapy, but in a refined manner. Prada has nerve, and they act on that chutzpah brilliantly. It is fresh, wildly fragrant and utterly lovely. The scent is long-lasting and it wafts up throughout the day in beautiful waves of clean and luxurious fragrance. What a creation!

Arden Men - Sandalwood by Elizabeth Arden
A wonderful sandalwood fragrance. It is ostensibly masculine and harsh upon first spraying, but its character is tempered by warm woody notes and a soft drydown that make it almost a unisex cologne. An appealing and genial aroma.

1881 by Cerruti
Ahh! A beautiful blend of flowers, citrus and wood. I have received more positive comments from women wearing this fragrance than with any other cologne. It is a gentle, winsome scent, with an appealingly shimmering bouquet. As JaimeB stated, it has a subtle radiance. Very long lasting.

Salvador Dali pour Homme by Salvador Dali
Heavily incensed, brooding and disturbing. This is what Nosferatu would wear if he had a special midnight rendezvous. I bought it blind and regretted it from the first spray. Turn away in horror, lift your cape a run from this scary brew!
29 September 2008
Infusion d'Homme by Prada
A wonder of a fragrance. It is fresh, ultra-refined, heady and understated. I smell the mandarin and vetiver, but the other notes are airy, wonderfully congruent and subordinate. I've been looking forward to this fragrance, and I am not disappointed. Bravo, Prada! Bellissima, Ms. Andrier!
28 September 2008
Habit Rouge by Guerlain
The first time I smelled Habit Rouge I was in shock. How could Guerlain come up with such a bright, loud and sickly-sweet fragrance? Pour Homme? Maybe for Willy Wonka. It is an one-dimensional fragrance in desperate need of revision. Perhaps some darker notes to tone down the cheap smelling rose, pimento and carnation. I cannot imagine a man wearing this in public, unless he's going to a taping of the Barney the Dinosaur Show.
22 September 2008
Acqua di Parma Colonia by Acqua di Parma
Wow! Do fragrances get any purer or more delicious than this? Beautiful citrus surrounded by fragrant flowers. A lovely garden illuminated by the sun of a perfect Mediterranean day.
22 September 2008
Acqua di Giò pour Homme by Giorgio Armani
I have never understood the popularity of this cologne. It smells cheap and musty. I am reminded of the stench of the odious task I did with love; changing the litter in my cat's litter box. It has spawned many imitators, all as awful as the original.
22 September 2008
The Dreamer by Versace
The Dreamer needs to wake up and face reality. It is a weird, insipid little fragrance that seems to be a prelude to something good. In spite of its attractive bottle, this is a very weak contender because it has an odd, sweet and synthetic smell.
Put The Dreamer to sleep for good!
Put The Dreamer to sleep for good!

Cool Water by Davidoff
I have tried not to like this fragrance because it is so popular, but I haven't succeeded. It is a gorgeous medley of its notes. As beautiful as a "marine" fragrance can get. It deserves its popularity because it smells positively wonderful.
22 September 2008
Jaïpur Homme by Boucheron
Whom did they have in mind when they created this confection? Boucheron fragrances are very strangely composed. They seem unrefined; too sweet or too sharp. Do not wear this fragrance anywhere around bees, you'd really be asking for it.
22 September 2008
Polo by Ralph Lauren
I no longer want to wear this fragrance. I would wear Polo Crest, if I could find it. However, I do enjoy smelling Polo on others. It is such a nostalgic scent. So 70's. So heady!
22 September 2008
Antaeus by Chanel
A dark, delicious mysterious scent. Its powerful fragrance reveals itself in whiffs of exotic intensity. Refined and timeless, I cannot imagine not having this fragrance in my collection. The olfactory equivalent of indulging in the richest, creamiest perfect devil's food cake.
22 September 2008
Obsession for Men by Calvin Klein
Overtly spicy and sweet. I don't loathe this fragrance, but I get tired of smelling it on someone an entire evening.
22 September 2008
Pi by Givenchy
Pi or Pie? I feel like a gigantic custard pie wearing this. I had to wash it off because it gave me such a headache and turned my stomach with its overbearing saccharine. A good fragrance if you're the Aunt Bea type.
22 September 2008
Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent
Exalted bathroom spray! An ostentatious guest that will not shut up. Super cloying. I once read that a famous Spanish classical music director wore too much of this stuff to the annoyance of the orchestra members.
22 September 2008
Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme by Dolce & Gabbana
I enjoyed this fragrance when I tried it on the first time. After wearing it a few times, however, I realized how uninteresting the notes in it are. It's not bad, but I expect something much more refined and profound from a name like Dolce and Gabbana.
22 September 2008
Terre d'Hermès by Hermès
This fragrance stalks me. I bought a bottle because I got a good deal. My first impressions were not good. I thought it smelled weird in a medicinal or all-purpose cleanser manner. After leaving the fragrance on my wrists for some time, it is a sturdy fragrance, I smell something alluring, strangely inchoate, yet inviting and warm. It definitely has an earthy aroma, but this is intermingled with softer musky and fruity notes. I don't usually like fruity notes in fragrances. I've never received any comment while wearing Terre, but I am constantly aware of how seductive the fragrance is to me while I have it on. Jean-Claude Ellena is truly a master perfumer.
22 September 2008
Vetiver by Guerlain
A wonderful fragrance. It seems a bit astringent when first applied, but it mellows down to a very agreeable and refined masculine fragrance. I can never imagine this being a unisex scent, there is not a feminine note in it. It lasts on the skin a long time.
22 September 2008
Agua de Sandalo by Adolfo Dominguez
A beautiful composition. An airy, woodsy fragrance that surrounds the sandalwood with luxurious notes. I bought a bottle in Mexico City, but I am having problems locating it here in the states, along with Vetiver Hombre. This is one of the most gorgeous masculine fragrances I've ever worn.
22 September 2008
Metropolis by Estée Lauder
This fragrance is nearly impossible to find. I found an 11ml bottle for $15 in an obscure perfume shop. It is by far the best fragrance that Estee Lauder ever created. It is a bit medicinal, but the sage, peppermint, vetiver and other notes blend so beautifully that you don't really notice after you're wearing it. It is a sin that this wonderful tonic was ever discontinued. Please resurrect it!
21 September 2008
Eau de Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene
Very clean, a little sweet, but pleasant. Inexpensive, but not cheap smelling at all.
21 September 2008
Concentrée D'Orange Verte by Hermès
Ahhh! An perfect green creation. It's as if you're walking through some idyllic fragrant garden after the rain. Lovely, utterly lovely. Kudos to Mr. Ellena!
21 September 2008
Starwalker by Mont Blanc
This musty smelling disgrace should have been pulled off the shelves long ago. It smells like dirty dishwater left out for a week. Not fit for human or canine use. Avoid. Caveat Emptor.
21 September 2008
Lagerfeld Classic by Lagerfeld
This beautiful fragrance will never go out of style. I can still remember the first time I smelled this in a department store. I could not believe that anyone would have the nerve to create such a lovely and pure masculine fragrance. Timeless.
21 September 2008
Usher for Men by Usher
Dousing yourself with Pepto-Bismol would probably be wiser than wearing this brew, and you would be less offensive to those in your immediate surroundings. Nauseating.
21 September 2008
Bogner Man (version #2) by Bogner
I bought this at the Frankfurt airport about ten years ago. I can't find it anywhere now, and many people have never heard of it. It is a lovely, clean and fresh fragrance, very long lasting and potent in a good way. Worth seeking out.
21 September 2008
Joop! Homme by Joop!
I have a friend who overdoes this vile liquid, and one time, I literally stopped at a drugstore for some Advil because I couldn't bear it any longer. Nasty, loud and vulgar. Suitable, perhaps, for a pimp on a budget.
21 September 2008
Dior Homme by Christian Dior
Sheer utter beauty in a bottle. This fragrance is transcendent in its immediate enveloping feeling of the exotic, the tranquil and the nostalgic. The tenderest deja vu. It uplifts my mood when I wear it. Gorgeous musky and floral accords tempered by a slivery-smooth note. A masterpiece of its kind. It may smell feminine to some, but it is pure heaven to me. Olivier Polge is a magician.
21 September 2008
A*Men / Angel Men by Thierry Mugler
There are some fragrances that delight and tease the olfactory senses, and then there are obnoxious, stomach-churning concoctions such as this fragrance. Whoever the mad scientist that created this is, he/she should have served some prison time.
21 September 2008
Loewe para Hombre by Loewe
I purchased this based on the positive reviews on this site. While it does have some appealing notes, there is a funky, much too earthy note that disagrees with my chemistry.
21 September 2008
Sunset Voyage by Nautica
I bought this for a very cheap price at TJ Maxx. It is pleasant enough, with sweet and spicy notes mitigated by a clear and cool essence. Not bad at all. Fair longevity.
