Coriandre by Jean Couturier

I bought my first bottle at Joseph Magnin's and fell in love. The sales clerk said it was so special .... "You won't find this at Nordstrom," she said, as if it was a cut above anything Chanel or Dior made. She may have been wrong about that, but I never wanted the bottle to end. Very bright, green, and piquant.

Arpège by Lanvin

The kind of scent you can imagine wearing on a romantic evening. It would encourage someone to ask you to tango .... rich, complex, changing as it dries .... intriguing.

Mon Peche / My Sin by Long Lost Perfume

Remarkably distinctive and unforgettable. I would love to try this again, and am willing to but the recreation just to see if it is like the lovely scent I remember.

No. 5 by Chanel

Loved it when I was in college, but now it no longer suits me. It is very complex, with many notes. I love the scent when it comes from the bottle, but not on my skin.

Chance by Chanel

Chance .... oh my..... lasting, sweet, sensuous, a fragrance for a woman who looks sophisticated.

Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel

Roses, vanilla .... luxurious femininity. I love the body lotion as well as the perfume.

Tommy Girl by Tommy Hilfiger

Didn't expect to like this so much, as many of the modern perfumes seem sharp and trendy, but to me it presents a fresh and lovely spring scent that may well become a classic. The name is silly.

Allure Eau de Toilette by Chanel

While it first smelled rather appealing, after about 15 minutes on my wrists it seemed way to overpoweringly sweet. On the other hand (or wrist) I can imagine someone else wearing this successfully. It just doesn't work with my skin.

4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser by 4711

Light and fresh, 4711 does not shout, it whispers. Delightful! No one will edge away from you on an elevator when you wear this ... they might move closer! Suitable for everyone from teen on up. Perfect in warm weather.

Pink by Victoria's Secret

Light and bright in the bottle, and yet on my skin ..... too hard and sharp. Comes off as just another modern scent that seems unremarkable. I cannot imagine this standing the test of time and being worn by anyone 20 years from now.

Giorgio by Giorgio Beverly Hills

Smells fabulous in the bottle and on a tester, and then .... on my skin it becomes too sharp and acrid. Can be lovely on others but my skin chemistry and this scent do not match.

Red Door by Elizabeth Arden

Red Door is very powerful, and should be addressed with caution. A little dab ... nice. A large splash ... overpowering.

Lolita Lempicka by Lolita Lempicka

Too sharp a fragrance for me, but the bottle is beautiful!

J'Adore by Christian Dior

Gorgeous but soft, appealing, and gets better as the day goes on.

White Shoulders by Elizabeth Arden

Classic. Identifiable. Lovely. I have worn this often and received more compliments on it than on any other scent, even ones that are more expensive. Whatever it contains seems to match my body chemistry perfectly.

Shalimar by Guerlain

When a scent becomes a classic, there's a reason. Heavenly, heady, sensuous, passionate. Most of all, distinctive. When someone near you is wearing Shalimar, you know what it is, you don't think, "Another sweet scent named after a pop star."
