| | Jade East by RegencyI would like to get a whiff of Jade East again and see how it affects me now. I liked it so much when I was 15 that I used to wear it. It turned me on to smell it, I guess because it was a fad for the boys to wear it at the time and the raging hormone thing, etc. 14th March, 2009. |
| | Canoé by DanaI loved this when I was younger, it was sweet smelling, not threatening like what are considered the more masculine scents, which I still don't like. They always smell to me like perfume layered over sweaty body odor. I recently bought some for my 18 year old son and he likes it too. 14th March, 2009. |
| | Baby Doll Paris by Yves Saint LaurentI found this perfume delightful when I first got it, but now I rarely wear it because it has a sharpness to it, like candy that is so sweet and tangy that it burns your throat. Its not really cloying, but very sugary and the initial stark sharpness to it is somewhat off putting. I prefer regular Paris. 14th March, 2009. |
| | Opium by Yves Saint LaurentWould anyone put this in the same category as Tabu? They remind me of each other, and not in a good way. It is either too strong, or people used to use too much of it, I could smell it across the room, like I could Youth Dew. It has an aggressive pseudo femininity about it and I find it an oppressive scent. Weird, because I like Mandarin, jasmine, vanilla and bergamot, maybe the patchouli thrown it makes it just "too much". 14th March, 2009. |
| | Bal à Versailles by Jean DesprezI have liked this fragrance for many years, since the early 70's, when I discovered it working at a perfume counter in a big department store. I worked in men’s cosmetics, but I tried as many ladies perfumes as I could and this was my favorite. I think that the perfume smells much better than the edt though. There is a rather shocking sharpness in the edt that does not seem to be in the perfume. After the initial unpleasantness, it mellows out quite a but. The perfume has a nicer sweetness to it and brings a richly romantic overindulgence to mind, like dangerous liaisons or something. I wish there were more Jean Desprez perfumes available. 14th March, 2009. |
| | Youth Dew by Estée LauderI have read quite a few reviews of fragrances in which a negative response is associated with the scent being associated with an old lady. Well, I try to keep an open mind, but this one, Youth Dew, is powdery old hag in a bottle as far as I am concerned. It is so strong and overpowering and I use to smell it so often! I still do occasionally, the last time in a restaurant on a Sunday when people came pouring in after church. It used to give me a headache. I am sure that there are perfectly fine women who wear it, but its certainly not for me. This is a very subjective opinion. I am looking forward to be able to to give fragrances a less pedestrian appraisal, which is one reason I joined this site. 14th March, 2009. |
| | Tabu by DanaThis scent seems vulgar to me for some reason. When I was in jr. high school in the 60's allot of girls wore this and I suppose like many young teenagers, they didn't have a sense of propriety. I don't suppose I did either, but I felt like if I wore this, it would be akin to not wearing underwear or something, and back then, girls just didn't do that, ha-ha. Goody 2 shoes type girls would pour this on and smell like they belonged in a brothel (which I had only read about at the time), and they seemed oblivious. Its so heavy and oppressive in my opinion. I have avoided smelling it for a long time, maybe I will sniff it again to see if I still feel the same. Must be some teenage angst and sexual ambivalence associatated with it. My, scent certainly can bring forth an emotional response. 14th March, 2009. |
| | Dior Addict by Christian DiorI am surprised about so many negative reviews. I used the bottle up in record time, I hope I didn't stink anyone out. I really like it, it is sweet without being juvenile and almost makes my mouth water. I usually don't like super fruity fragrances, which seem so unsophisticated. Fascinating to read the reviews: latex? I would never have thought of that, my nose must be rather underdeveloped. I think it has somewhat dark, smoky quality that prevents it from smelling like a Barbie doll fragrance. 14th March, 2009. |
