Cèdre by Serge Lutens Les Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido

I've sampled a few Serge Lutens fragrances before, but was never really overly impressed by them. That is, until I came across Cedre. The first whiff of this fantastic composition almost made me weak to my knees. So unique and unusual. Also very warm and sensual in my opinion. It does change quite a bit on the skin after a while and mellows down to something honey and amber-like, but with a slight sharpness to it. I think the name is rather misleading, as it has very little to do with cedar. The only difficulty I have with this fragrance is determining how strong it actually comes across as to others. Very shortly after application, I can smell it as rather subtle, but I'm sure that it's in fact not that subtle at all, given it's EdP and all the natural ingredients. It's very long-lasting - pretty much all day, and I can even smell it on my wrist in the morning. Given you can't get it in too many places (mainly Harrods and Harvey Nichols), you won't be smelling it all over the place. Interestingly, the Serge Lutens website doesn't list it, so I wonder if it's just because it's new or because it's some sort of limited edition. Also, it's more of a gourmand scent, so that again limits the user base. Definitely a winner!

Scent Intense by Costume National

All I can say is that this is the most perfect fragrance ever created. So very sensual and alluring, so unique. I've never smelt anything like it. It's dark in the sense that it's very ambery and incensey, while slightly fruity, and it's complex and intriguing at the same time. It must contain many more notes than the ones mentioned by Basenotes, since it just feels so much more complex than that. I feel so good when I wear this fragrance but it unfortunately distracts me all the time because I just want to smell it all day long. So wonderful. Words can't even describe it, just go ahead and try it and you'll know what I mean. You won't be disappointed.

Magnetism for Men by Escada

Quite different from the rest, that's for sure. There is something sensual and mysterious about it. Perhaps slightly metallic at first, but fruity and sensual very soon thereafter; it's a wonderful fragrance that you can wear in all situations and one that will certainly be noticed by others. Very good for nights out. I don't agree with some of the other reviews that claimed it's tacky and synthetic. Not at all in my opinion. Perhaps an "arty" scent that is just different. But I highly recommend it anyway.

Himalaya by Creed

I must admit that I hated this fragrance at first when I sampled it and I thought it was a huge mistake to let the sales assistant spray some of it on my skin, but as I wandered on and let it settle and checked back later just to reconfirm that I disliked it, I was completely astonished by how much it has changed on my skin in the meantime and how pleasant it has become. I find that this is the case with most Creeds anyway. You really need to try them on your skin and let them settle to observe what a drastic change the fragrances go through. Overall, I think Himalaya is a very light, slightly peppery fragrance that has some dominant tea notes in it, which can be worn at any time of the day and in any season. Probably summer would be the season of choice for most people, given its light aura, but make no mistake, it's extremely long-lasting. I really don't understand how some people find that it fades away quickly, as on my skin it stays on from morning until late at night and I can't even detect a fade of potency after many hours of wear. It's quite distinctive and connoisseurs would immediately recognise what you're wearing, especially given that it has that certain Creed house note in it.

Jako by Lagerfeld

I positively like this fragrance. It starts off very uniquely - slightly fruity and fresh, but in such a different way. It smells very elegant and distinctive, is not overpowering and has tremedous allure. I almost feel intoxicated when I catch a whiff. After having worn it for a while, the fragrance evolves into something smoky and mysterious. Very different from the initial impression. Could almost be mistaken for a cigar-like smell, but certainly a very refined one. It most definitely has longevity, but once the basenotes have come out, it stays rather close to the skin. I can only recommend this fine fragrance to anyone.

Nikos by Nikos

Very shortly after application, I can detect a rather smooth cherry note evolving, mixed with some cinnamon. I think it's a perfect blend. I agree with the other reviewers in that it's a gourmand scent, but due to its sublety and warmth, it creates a very sexy and exotic aura that I'm sure most people will find a pleasure to experience. Wonderful fragrance, but be careful not to put on too much, otherwise it might become slightly cloying. I'd say two sprays should be sufficient. On my skin, it's quite long-lasting, and as time passes, it becomes even more subtle and completely merges with my natural fragrance to make it even more intoxicating. I can only highly recommend this fabulous fragrance!

Anglomania by Vivienne Westwood

Even though this is supposed to be a feminine fragrance, I find that it's rather masculine and tends to smells very nice on male skin. It's got this special something that makes it sexy and mysterious. I'd recommend wearing it for a night out, though it's subtle enough to be worn as an everyday scent.

To fully appreciate the fragrance, you should definitely try it on your skin, as it does smell quite different, depending on what chemistry you have. Also, even though the top notes are very pleasant, the fragrance becomes truly magnetising when it's been on your skin for at least half an hour and the middle and base notes have started to appear.

Black XS by Paco Rabanne

This is a very pleasant fragrance that strongly reminds me of strawberries. Quite unusual as such in the realm of male fragrances, but certainly worth some attention. It's quite long-lasting and is rather subtle. I would recommend for everyday wear, all year round. The interesting aspect of this scent is that it doesn't seem to change much after application to the skin. The strawberries can always be perceived, even when it's been worn for hours.
