| | Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme by Dolce & GabbanaA '90s verson of its classic forerunner, Cacheral Pour Homme, but not as bold and more of a mass-marketed chemical mix. It also takes on some notes of the more romantic similar scent, Roma Pour Homme, but is a little louder and more crass. Over all it is a durable, appealable, psuedo-classical modern scent over spice, citrus, and botanicals that I recommend folks to at least try. 7th December, 2009. |
| | Monsieur de Givenchy by GivenchyVery much like the Eau Sauvage... but it predates Dior. 4th December, 2009. |
| | Oscar for Men by Oscar de la RentaI was expecting to smell another mundane, lemon-herb based bottle of swill with a designer moniker slap on it, but I was proven wrong. I actually liked the smell. After dry down the pepper come to life, and the citrus takes a beat seat. It soften and start to take on a Chanel pour Monsieur reflection without the talc. Good for spring and summer, and daytime wear. I recommend it only if you can get it a discount price. 25th November, 2009. |
| | Gucci by Gucci pour Homme by GucciI was not impressed with this 'run of the mill fragrance'; it did not have any penache or special notes. It is an inoffensive, easy smell of soft floral, talc, and fructose. Good for the sock drawer, but too femme for me to wear. 24th November, 2009. |
| | YSL pour Homme by Yves Saint LaurentThis is a pleasantly earthy, slightly grassy, herbally, citrusy fresh fragrance that is masculine, yet clean and mature. It is not a cheap teenage splash scent like you get with piss-waters, like CK, Aqua di Gio, Cool Water, or other chemical potions by Coty, etc. This is in the category of Eau Sauvage, but not as bright; Givenchy Monsieur, but more complex; Oscar, but not as synthetic; or Chanel Pour Homme, but not as powdery. It is priced right, not too hard to find, classic, proven, and can be used on most occassions. I like it, and recommend it for the wardrobe. 24th November, 2009. (Last Edited: 4th December, 2009.) |
| | Eternity for Men by Calvin KleinUnwearable blend of wax stripper, solvent, and window cleaner. Smells like a migraine in a bottle. Nothing resembling the fantastic sibling, Eternity for Femme. This is the evil twin brother. This is practically, probably, poisonous. 24th November, 2009. |
| | Chanel Pour Monsieur by ChanelDo not judge it in the bottle, apply it first. It has a soft lemon zest, talc, cedar & moss scent. Classic in typical Chanel sense. It is still a fashionable wear. A little on the femme scale. It can be worn anytime of day, in any occassion, but not for the tweens. It is pricy, getting hard to find, never discounted; and, therefore, under used in this fougere-chypre men's category. I recommend it. 24th November, 2009. |
| | Eternity by Calvin KleinStrong freesia floral that mellows with tim; amber and scant note sandalwood give it a very nice warm glow. A very distinguishable, unique, classic scent with incredible sillage. This is a professional lady's fragrance, not for really young girls. I recommend this FiFi winner fragrance. 24th November, 2009. |
| | Dior Homme Cologne by Christian DiorFrom the bottle it smells like a typical girly dior fragrance, after applied it smells like a used, musky, slightly floral powder puff. Not masculine at all, unless you're a Frenchman. As some have described it, smells like the bottom of a make-up bag. It does have a descent floral talc sillage. A bit too sweet for me. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Fahrenheit 32 by Christian DiorA sweet, fresh neroli scent with a vague vetiver note and vanillin base. It is almost sickly sweet, then dries dry down and becomes frosty and a little insipid. A linear fragrance that becomes more appealing with time; nonetheless, it never quite lives up to its original ancestor. A Dior marketing offspring, not born of vision, but of a mistake. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Gucci Pour Homme II by GucciYet, another pleasurable, warm, welcoming fragrance from the renoun Italian design house. Super scent, very enticing and insatiable. Great in the bottle, better out of it on the skin. Great longevity, complex dry-down, well balanced blend of black tea, bergamot, allspice, tobacco leaves, wood and musk. A little dab will do you for the day. A real nose magnet. Chic, complex, but not for the beach; anywhere else, and at anytime, and any age from puberty to centenarian. I highly recommend --I encourage you to try it.. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Burberry London for Men by BurberryFor me this is a peppery, bergamot, lavender and leather potion, that is better out of the bottle and on your skin. The dry down is nice and warm. It is a typical quality frag from Burberry. It may be a little to much black pepper for some, but that note retreats after an hour or so of wearing and the lavender and leather kick in. It is a 'pepe' style EDT that I recommend for the twenty+ crowd, and for evening events. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Rive Gauche pour Homme by Yves Saint LaurentA very fresh masculine scent that comes on clean, balanced, and refreshing. It a fragrance to 'splash' on and not worry about being over-powering. It is a flexible fragrance that can be used on any occassion. It is a just out of the barber shop smell with sophistication and poise. The immediate top notes of clove and rosemary evaporate to background after a few minutes, the lavender never comes out of the background, and vetiver and patchouli take on the bulk of the residual sillage. It is not long lasting, apx half a day. I recommend this one for mid-twenties through sixities --not for teenie-boppers or octogenerians. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Dunhill by Alfred DunhillAn excellent EDT. You cannot stop smelling it once it is on you, enthralling. A masculine, captivating fragrance of lemon zest, sandalwood, musk and a hint of geranium. Wow! This is so fresh, balanced, and attractive, that is screams out class and excellence.. Quality ingredients give it longlasting durableness; it is hard to scrub off even in the shower. This is a classic fragrance, like the original Dunhill --a top notch designer. i am completely won over by this one, definitely a must for the wardrobe. Any age, anywhere, anytime. I highly recommend it. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Pure Cédrat by AzzaroAzzarro's Lavender and Vetiver, the other selections of this collection, gave me hope that this fragrance would be as successful as they are; however, this fragrance was a let-down. The initial spray of lemon oil and tangerines quickly dried down into a stronger smell of boiled lemon peel condensate and cheap musk. While clearly not an Eau Sauvage, for the price, it is O.K. to use if there is nothing else around. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Gucci pour Homme by GucciA very surprisingly good fragrance. True to Gucci style, this is a very balanced fragrance with aromatic bay laurel, cedar wood, slightly grassy vetiver, earthy oakmoss, a tinge of floral, and musky, lingering tobacco & ambergris base that is not heavy on the talc during dry-down like its nearby French relative, Dior Homme. This is definitely a sophisticated, more masculine, Italian-style EDT that is not over-powering, yet full of strength. It is an extremely pleasant, well balance, durable fragrance that constantly has you smelling yourself or some else that is wearing it. I highly recommend this for day or evening wear, casual, businees and formal events, teens to mature in age. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Brit for Men by BurberryI can pickup a bergamot citrus zing, a rose water talc, a bit of nutmegs, and is aided by a ever so slight woodsy odor. It is a nice wearing, balance, quality scent --like all Burberrys. It is good to wear anytime, and for any age below 70. It is not as robust as Cacheral pH, more subtle on the spice and heavier on the talcy floral; yet, it is not a weakling. I think this is a good all-around casual everyday fragrance. I recommend it. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Vetiver by GuerlainI am not sure how to take this scent. It is a quality French fragrance, yet it is not long lasting. It is a semi-sweet, grassy, slightly citrus, slightly woody, and peppery. Dries down into a somewhat sophisticated, mature scent. It is more than a barber shop tonic. Regardless of however classic it is, there are more modern version of this genre out there. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Pure Vetiver by AzzaroThis is a strong fragrance when sniffed from the bottle, once applied it softens, warms, and lingers. It smells like water soaked vetiver, some light citrus, ginger root, and a touch of black pepper. It is a grassy, warm, noticeable, but in-the-background fragrance. It is a pleasent scent if worn properly --not a cheap-smelling bottle of chemicals you sling everywhere. The secret to this EDT is applying it sparingly. It would be best for a summer day outside, or on a picnic. I recommend it, as long as you don' bath in it. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Green Irish Tweed by CreedI would have given this elegant, refined, upmarket fragrance 5 stars, but the price deminished the appeal. This is a superior fragrance in every way. From the bottling, markings, application, wearing, dry-down, longevity and sillage. Its a traditional scent that cannot be matched, incomparable. It has a wholesome, clean, fresh and airy whiff when applied. The perfume is stable, balanced, and warms with time. Super longevity, quality ingredients and prduced with a legendary reputation for exactness. This is not for your average teenie-bopper, collegiate Greek, or the great unwashed masses. It is expensive, and it demonstrates the cost by projecting an incredibly beguilling and gripping scent. The lemon and verbena is fine on opening and remain fresh through dry down, the iris gives it and understated middle floral and a touch of enchanting sandalwood and inscrutable ambergis base give it a longlasting foundation. Highly recommend this classic to everyone. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Eau Sauvage by Christian DiorAt first smell I thought of diluted furniture polish, an oily lemon balm. After application, it becomes fresh, zesty, clean, citric, mossy and herbal. It is a well balanced, sophisticated, refined fragrance that is perfect for casual summertime or springtime events. It is weak-wearing, and dries down into a light, citric, subtle sillage. I recommend this classic scent, it will never go out of style. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Cacharel Pour L'Homme by CacharelA superior French fragrance. A classic scent that should be in any real man's wardrobe. The original of this genre, that is hard to find, and under rated. It is not heavy, but it is robust, zesty, and a loud mixture of nutmegs, oranges, lavender, and sandalwood. It is lively, fresh, clean, longlasting, has great sillage, is well-balanced, very sophisticated, alluring, and exudes exotic, mysterious notes that always has people asking you what you are wearing that smells so good. Great for Autumn, Winter, and Spring. A good scent for business, casual, or evening engagements. I Highly recommend! 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Burberry for Men by BurberryThis is one of my favourite EDTs. If applied correctly, that is, not in mass quantities, it is very seductive, masculine, and sophisticated. It is not a fragrance that says "I am just out of the shower", as it does not smell like a bar of soap; rather, it smells like a high quality, French EDT (I know, Burberry is an English clothier). The top notes of lavender and bergamot are balanced and clean; midtone of blackcurrent, mint, and lime are subtle, yet add freshness; the basenotes of fresh cut cedar and vanilla give it an exotic foundation. The dry-down is warm and balmic. The sillage is soft and longlasting. This is good to wear at formal, business, casual, or romantic events. This is not a fragrance for the trailer park, laundrymat, barbershop, or locker room; it is one to be worn with a nice shirt and pressed trousers. Highly recommend. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Azzaro pour Homme by AzzaroThis is one of those fragrances you either like or do not like; no straddling the fence on this scent. I do not like it. It is too strong for my liking. It can easily lead to people gasping for oxygen, rolling down windows, and pinching their noses whilst breathing through their mouths. This is an amped-up concoction of Paco Rabanne, Polo, and Jovan. It is immediately off-putting when smelled from the bottle, a bit like a toilet bowel cleaner. Once applied, is rounds-out to a smoother, heavy, tree sap scent. The dry-down brings out a warmer side of cardamom, burnt basil, and a musky amber. I tried to like it, because the allure of the musk, but could not get around the burnt basil and wood resins. You can tell it is a not a cheap drugstore quality bottle of cologne, but a notch above, a decent Parisian EDT if you can handle the masculine strength of this fragrance. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Acqua di Giò pour Homme by Giorgio ArmaniNot quite lemon Pledge and human urine, but close to it. In the bottle it smells like a chemical concoction strong enough to act as a solvent for cleaning varnish from a carburetor. This industrial strength citric acid degreaser, once appliedto the skint turns into diluted citronella with a floral chypre base. The ordor evaporates within minutes, leaving scant traces of alcohol. The user requires an overnight marinade in order for it to be noticeable more for more than a half hour. This is nothing more than a below average rip-off of 4711 Eau de Cologne and a wanna-be version of Christian Dior's Eau Sauvage. I don't recommend this. The only reason it is a best seller is that it is dirt cheap. 23rd November, 2009. |
| | Pure Lavande by AzzaroThis is one of those fragrances that you know belongs on you when you wear it, It is a comfort to wear, as it is friendly, reassuring and very alluring. The lavander is not over-powering, just enough to smell clean and natural. The anise is just a hint to reassure you that it is there. From the bottle you can get a whiff over the vanilla, on dry-down you have a lavender, vanilla powder, and ambergris scent. Initially, there is a lot of sillage, but it is not long lasting; half a day. Great 'going-out' EDT for men. It is masculine, but not macho; sensitive, but not milquetoasty. It is not a 'sophisticated' scent, but it is also not a 'cheap drugstore' bottle of chemically smelling cologne. Certainly, a Parisian made fragrance. I recommend it, particularly for the price. 22nd November, 2009. |
