    Timbuktu by L'Artisan Parfumeur

I almost didnt try this one because I didnt really want to know what the french think africans smell like, but I am glad I did! Rather than being overbearingly sweet and stanky, this is a well balanced and charming perfume - and rather on target too I must add. It begins with what I can only call a dry leather smell, with some sweet liquor and warm soft woodsiness, and develops into a mildly astringent but sweet gingerbread like fragrance, all the while being help together by that warm dry wood. It bring to mind palm trees baking in the sun and ocean breezes. With time it becomes sweeter and a little more citrusy, with maybe a little coconut oil and patchouli giving it a sweet depth. NOT a stanky patchouli smell - overall its just warm, mellow, aromatic and a tad smokey. Perfect.

I was intrigued by the ammount of press and celebrity endorsement this fragrance has recieved, and hoping that maybe the rich do live better than the rest of us, I ordered a sample and prepared to be amazed. REally this just smells like a really nice shampoo or tanning oil - very tropical and romantic/casual, but nothing spectacular - except the price! I love frangi-pani, because it reminds me of growing up in the tropics, but its not enough to give this one a thumbs up.

parfums*PARFUMS Series 3 Incense: Zagorsk by Comme des Garçons

I am very pleased with this scent. It begins with pencil shavings and cherry cough medicine, but quickly shakes those artificial scents off and mellows into a smokey pine laced with camphor and menthol. As it settles in, it becomes mustier and deeper, I think there are some sweet oriental woods in this that I cant reallyplace. After a while, I was able to pick up ginger candy and crayola crayons of all things - but without ever losing that "spiritual" aspect. I definitely have to say this fragrance has a beautiful and solemn presence without ever becoming too incensey or heady. Overall, makes me think of burning evergreens and high holy places.

parfums*PARFUMS Series 2 Red: Sequoia by Comme des Garçons

The top notes on this fragrance are everything I have dreamed they would be, intoxicating brandy and resinous cedars- not for the faint of heart! It was the leather interior of a gentlemans car, warm and inviting without being "comfy" or casual. It veered towards steak marinade to mossy, to cinnamon apple, eventually settling down into a strong cinnamon/cedar smell. Unfortunately the heart just doesnt live up to the top notes, and becomes a little one dimensional, though still very heady and lovely while remaining masculine. For some reason it makes me think of sunny days on a motor boat rather than a secluded pine forest. Oh well. Probably wont purchase it, but Im really glad I got to try it.

Pretty much as advertised, though I was surprised by how pleasant and non-artifical it actually smelled. At first it had an ephermeral piney note which gave way to a strong burnt rubber smell, developing into a pleasant ozone, sweet rubber and beef jerkey smell. Fortunately the beef jerkey was short lived, as the fragrance wore on it became a little less airy and more 'solid'with a dry citrus and smoke quality, then suddenly switching to an almost floral lemon water - complicated and "chaotic" as one reviewer put it - but very pleasant indeed.

I have to say I didnt smell the magnolia, in fact I didnt really smell much of anything. Its a very light scent, pretty unassuming. Green apple with a light floral background, and the tiniest hint of gasoline somewhere in the back. Good for someone who wants a casual, conservative scent but doesnt like florals. Not for me though.

Honestly I dont smell the honeysuckle - which Im normally a sucker for. This is pretty much what I expected - boring and one dimensional. A creamy vanilla scent with salty caramel edge, becoming slightly muskier with time. I wouldnt bother.

The top notes first made me think - fried shrimp! go figure. The sweet, corny, lemony smell was interesting but faded fast, turning into something far less interesting - more like a margarita. Lemony and heavy - I'd pass on this one.

At first I was unimpressed, but the dry down really is different! At first it came across as dark and a little oceanic, sweet and piney with a little dandelion, masculine and dry. It struck me as a little conventional - but the heart of pepper, cinnamon, and cardamom makes me think of a little indian spice shop - very warm, dry and aromatic. I cant wait to slap it on my boyfriend!

Wet Garden by Demeter Fragrance Library

really does smell like a wet garden, for what its worth. Interesting as a scent, but not really a knock out perfume. The 'dirty' note really does make this an interesting take on a floral scent however. More long lasting than some of the other demeter scents Ive tried. Interesting.

    Dirt by Demeter Fragrance Library

I ordered several samples of demeter's pick-me-ups at once, and I have to say that dirt just overpowered them all. I really want to like it, but the industrial/chemical top note just drives me crazy- and not in a good way. Would never wear it, but I'm glad I tried it.

WOW what a great men's perfume. It really takes a different sort of man to wear this scent, its so sexy and romantic, but confident at the same time. I love the softness of this scent on a man. I am considering purchasing a bottle just so I can take a whiff every now and then!

Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin by Lolita Lempicka

I like it better than the woman's fragrance for sure, its a little stronger and drier, but has the same problem - ie, its way too faint! Suprisingly, it was lot closer to the women's scent than I had imagined that it would be, and without being really cloying. Maybe thats just because I could barely smell it! Too bad, it could be really intersting. Also - neat bottle.

At first I tried this on paper, and the fresh green scent was really incredible! I couldnt believe that the sweet smell of warm grass had been so perfectly captured. Though I didnt know it then, what I was really responding to was the honeysuckle. Unfortunately after a day or so, the lingering fragrance on the bottle reeked a sickly sweet smell, which really began to worry me. However, the juice still smelled great on my skin - so no harm no foul. I definitely had some concerns when my boyfriend wanted to try it (figuring it would just make him smell like candy) but it actually work very well on his skin and smells much more masculine than what comes out of the bottle. Really a hit in this house.

    cK be by Calvin Klein

I really enjoy wearing mens perfumes, but my boyfriend hates it - so CK be is the perfect compromise! The musk-spice notes keep it interesting, but its not too overpowering or woodsy, like many men's products. I wear it when I want to feel confident, rather than particularly sexy.

My boyfriends aunt gave him a sample of this fragrance once with some hand lotion. by the time i met him he had run out of the fragrance but still had the lotion. He raved about the scent, but from the lotion I really couldnt form much of an opinion. So I bought him a full sized bottle of it for christmas, and have to admit that its much better than I had anticipated. Its sweet, for a mans scent, but really doesnt get cloying in the heat like some others do. Also it sticks around without going flat or sour. It may not be the most sophisticated, but its very charming on a younger guy who doesnt want to smell old and fussy with alot of heavy spices or woods.

I have to admit that I was pleasantly suprised by this one. I figured that any bottle this cute would have to be the showstopper, but really the fragrance itself leaves the design in the dust. I must admit though, Im a realy rose-musk kinda girl. It reminds me of a fragrance from my childhood, but without feeling old fashioned in the least. The staying power is so-so, it stuck around for about 4-5 hours - but very subtley. Would definitely buy again.

    L'Eau D'Issey by Issey Miyake

Was a little disappointed. I expected something a little less floral, more abstract. I did smell clean, but I expected something more ethereal or complex. Also, it really disappeared after about an hour. Admittedly, I tried the EDP and not the actual perfume - which may be made with higher quality ingredients.

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana

Its no coincidence that the only other two reviews for this fragrance are by men- they go crazy for this scent for some reason. I think it may be the creamy vanilla heart in the middle of it. Its not a french vanilla, but something whiter and stranger, with an almost smokey orange bottom. The fact the the citrus kind of lingers at the edges of the big vanilla heart really makes this a more interesting and offbeat scent than you might expect for something aimed at a 'younger' woman. Good for something casual and sexy, without being too flamboyant. Not really a "dressy" fragrance though.

WOOF! What a dog, I cant understand how it can still be so popular today. I was really looking forward to trying this scent, and ordered a sample off the internet. The aldehyde just smelled like so much powder and dead flowers. Just a couple light sprays and I reeked - I have to admit it has staying power! I was also suprised by how little it happened to develop over time - I expected something more dynamic from such a star.

    Escape by Calvin Klein

My mother recieved a bottle of this for christmas years ago and decided that it just wasnt for her. I, on the other hand, fell in love at first whiff. This became my signature scent for several years. It is a really classy and well balanced composition of lush white flowers - almost juicy I would say. Also, it has great staying power, becoming more beautiful with age, not really losing its initial complexity like so many perfumes. I still wear it occasionally, but prefer trying riskier fragrances now. Great for family occasions though ;).
