| | Borneo 1834 by Serge Lutens Les Salons du Palais Royal ShiseidoI have nothing much to add to the reviews, they are excellent and in most cases on spot, besides one thing - I blind bought this and haven't regretted it! 8th April, 2010. |
| | Messe de Minuit by EtroFunny how... Based on the countless reviews of "MdM" I've read, I never thought I would like this fragrance, but all the same I scarily ordered my 1 ml sample, thinking I should at least study the matter. How surprised I was when I tried it! I must admit that I concluded the reviewers are subjective and prone to projection only because of the fragrance given name - Messe de Minuit, Either that, or are smelling bad samples. There is nothing Gothic, and absolutely nothing musty in here. It was love at first sight, or should I say, immediately after the top notes started - they smell of warmth of burning candles and melting wax (the moment you've entered the church), that's why it's called Midnight Mass, It is a mass that is taking place, not some abandoned church trespassed in the middle of the night by wannabe goths holding their morbid ceremony. As the procession is being held, the priests are burning incense - "In the General Instruction of the Roman Missal incense may be used during the entrance procession; at the beginning of Mass, to incense the altar; at the procession and proclamation of the Gospel; at the offertory, to incense the offerings, altar, priest and people; and at the elevation of the Sacred Host and chalice of Precious Blood after the consecration. The priest may also incense the Crucifix and the Paschal Candle." - and those are the middle notes for you. The offerings of the people usually brought to church for midnight mass are cakes and dried fruit. As you have left the ceremony, whiffs of all that have remained in your hair and your clothes, and those are the basenotes. 4th April, 2010. |
