| | Grey Flannel by Geoffrey BeeneGot a sample of this to try. Good God in Heaven, this is terrible, just terrible. Dated. Not good. It's no wonder this stuff is soooooo cheap. I tossed the sample. 24th June, 2009. |
| | Black Suede by AvonFairly sickly and nasty. Smells like Lysol original formula. Would not recommend. 24th June, 2009. |
| | Polo Double Black by Ralph LaurenI really like this fragrance. It has a sweet, dark woody base that persists for many hours. The luxuriant middle notes are dulcent and smoky and completely, synergistically, meld with the base notes. The projection and sillage are great as well. This is a very well crafted fragrance in my opinion. 14th November, 2008. |
| | Équipage by HermèsI must be unrefined, because I found this fragrance to be exceedingly too floral with way to much sillage and projection. I expect elderly ladies to wear this scent for brunch. In my view, this isn't a masculine scent. Well, I suppose that 18th century French male aristocrats might have worn this concoction on the way to the guillotine, but not modern men. All the positive reviews confuse me -- perhaps a few of you paying false homage to the vaunted Hermes? 29th August, 2008. |
| | Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin by Lolita LempickaA very warm, edible comforting scent, I received a small sample bottle through a trade. One of my daughters applied the whole bottle to my carpet so I can't test it with a full application. The licorice and anise notes are particularly noticeable and complement each other very well. 28th August, 2008. |
| | Pino Silvestre by SilvestreNasty, nasty terrible stuff. You don't want it on your skin and merely spraying it into the atmosphere causes it to hang for quite some time. A stomach-churning synthetic pine disaster. Eh, you may like that so get it. 16th April, 2008. |
| | Bulgari pour Homme Extreme by BulgariSparklingly fresh, dry and sharp junipery scent that oozes class. Excellent longevity. BpH is good too; I guess just less extreme...interesting that notes are somewhat different tho. 15th October, 2007. |
| | Paco Rabanne pour Homme by Paco RabanneSO-PAY! To the nth degree. Like a bar of strong deodorant soap. Masculine, good projection and longevity. After several hours, the drydown evokes Obsession for some strange reason. Maybe just me. This is not what I would consider a clubbing scent or one for the 20-30 something crowd. 19th June, 2007. |
| | Monk by Michael StorerI had to laugh (with respect) at those who think this scent evokes a gothic character or dark, ghostly stone structures. I expected a kind of earthy, woody, animalic, leathery smell. This is Chanel No. 5 if you ask me! Sweet, fruity, very feminine/ androgenous. Nice smell, but hardly masculine. I didn't want to apply the sample...if I do and I suddenly morph into a gothic knight in shining armor, then I will retract this review! 16th February, 2007. |
| | Atman by Phat FarmThis fragrance is described as an aromatic fougere. The top notes are bergamot and fresh aquatic. The drydown is slightly musky with a nice touch of suede. This is a Russell Simons product. I find I like it quite well -- classy and masculine. The longevity is very good and the sillage is above average in my opinion. 11th January, 2007. |
| | Escape for Men by Calvin KleinSmelled so much better on a business card on my dresser...I can't stand this scent. It's cloying, sweet, fruity (a "fruity mess" I heard someone say), hardly masculine, heady, headache- producing and gut-churning. I had the residue of it on when I went to bed and I had to take a washcloth to my upper pectoral region. Didn't work on me. 4th January, 2007. |
| | Bulgari pour Homme by BulgariFresh, cool, sharply citrus (in a good way) with a musky drydown that gently evokes the opening. Never cloying, doesn't annoy, better-than-average sillage and projection. It's one of my favorites. 2nd January, 2007. |
| | UDV for Men (new) by Ulric de VarensI received a sample of this with a recent online order. This fragrance is virtually indistinguishable from Davidoff's Cool Water. OK if you like Cool Water I guess, but I imagine UDC is more pricey. 5th December, 2006. |
| | Gucci pour Homme by GucciGucci pour homme is yet another frag I purchased "smell unsmelled," since I received quizzical looks from the clerks at the mass market stores at which I sought this product. They didn't carry it. I based my desire to purchase GpH on the reviews here. My first whiff of it I was taken aback by its unabashed woodiness and how it indeed evokes the notion of pencil shavings. That said, GpH is the most intoxicating, captivating aroma I have in my albeit small wardrobe. The sweet woody accord is so sublime that since I got it I never pass up an opportunity to uncork this robust glass cuboid and sniff the atomizer. I purchased the 3.3 oz size, the largest, yet I find myself constantly evaluating whether an occasion really merits wearing my precious Gucci pour homme. 2nd November, 2006. |
| | Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme by Dolce & GabbanaSince I live in sort of a cultural...void region, I buy most of my fragrances based on good reviews. It works about 90 percent of the time for the good. At first I didn't really like the intense fruitiness of D&G, but I tell ya, this is one fragrance that you will like more with each use. The intensity of the top notes gradually gives way to muted aromatic fruitiness that is completely fresh and pleasant. I never get tired of this scent (top and heart notes). I must have a block on the basenotes because to me the top two tiers really maintain a lock on the olfactory sense. Now, D&G also is, to me, the best in my 6-fragrance wardrobe in sillage, projection and longevity. One application works all day long. The ONLY odd thing I've noticed about D&G is the color. It's "urine of extremely dehydrated human." If you place it on your (shaded) high boy, it will look at first glance like a urine specimen on the way to your doctor's office. 18th October, 2006. |
| | H.M. by Hanae MoriI just sampled this recently and thought I'd like it based on its classification. Holy cow, I hate it! As some of the other detractors have said, it's a sickenly sweet, almost candy-like fragrance that I'm not clear on why it qualifies as a cologne. 3rd September, 2006. |
| | Elements Aqua by Hugo BossLike it: spicy opening that flattens out quite warm and pleasant. I also detect an aquatic element, so I guess it's named correctly. That said, this fragrance sticks close skin and fades into obscurity rather quickly. Perhaps the solution is to hose it on. 1st September, 2006. |
| | Polo by Ralph LaurenI absolutely love the smell of Polo and would wear it and spray it in my environs if I were the only man left on earth. It is redolent with the pine and juniper top notes that seem to last for days -- I wouldn't know about the basenotes because I'm pretty sure I've never smelled them. Only muted and pleasant, layed back top notes. Within the year I will be acquiring both Polo and Polo Blue. For both, you just have to be sure not to reek of it. Use it sparingly. And, of course, ignore smugly all insults related to the 80s, which were awesome by all accounts. 26th August, 2006. |
| | Opium pour Homme by Yves Saint LaurentI bought a bottle of this years ago at the duty-free shop in the Orlee airport in Paris and barely used it because -- until recently -- I did not use cologne. I have no idea why I'm interested now (middle age maybe?) I started using it out of the blue about a year ago and I have to say I really really like this scent. Warm, sweet, heady -- but not cloying at all. A very pleasant dulcent but manly scent that I can imagine wearing for years and not tiring of it. It seems to be the antithesis of strong woody scents like Hugo, but very similar to Hugo No. 6 which I think is quite comparable. You really can't go wrong with this fragrance. 26th August, 2006. |
| | Hugo by Hugo Bosshmmmmm....don't like it. I wanted to like it for the bottle alone, but hey, I want some cutey to say, wow did you take a bath in that or what? The deal is it's to peppery and musky and that scent seems to last for way too long. It seems to clench down on the nostrils. The drydown, to me, approximates Polo but not nearly soon enough, since I really like Polo's fragrance. 26th August, 2006. (Last Edited: 21st April, 2008.) |
| | Boss Bottled by Hugo BossI just acquired this fragrance a few weeks ago. I really like it. Nice sweet heady top notes and sweet spicy drydown with potent sillage. 26th August, 2006. |
