Dior Homme by Christian Dior

Not quite as sophisticated as I'd expected. It is extremely sweet, having ingredients making it slightly less-masculine than I'd have liked. Saying that, it is a nice smell, with a strong sillage and great longevity. A bit harsh on the top-notes but on the dry-down it is very pleasant. Great bottle design also.

Python Uomo by Trussardi

Hmmm, this is a rather unusual scent, still not sure if I like it or not after several wears. Its not unpleasant but doesn't wow me either. Its certainly got character with certain notes I don't think I've smelled before. Its worth a try, but not as a blind buy.

Black Jeans by Versace

Very similar to two scents but combine them very well. It bears a resemblance to Ungaro III but has more of a tar smell than flowers. Also bears a likeness to rive gauche. A very dark and mysterious scent. A very nice addition to the collection, especially as it is discontinued. Harsh and in your face, just the way I like it!

Bright Visit by Azzaro

This take on the original Visit fragrance is a nice surprise. It does smell like the original but with less of the nutmeg, also more of a fresher, clean scent. I like both the versions, which are worth having individually. Thumbs up :)

Dunhill by Alfred Dunhill

This one does remind you of some kind of toothpaste or mouthwash, and for that reason I didn't think I would like it at first, but it does grow on you. The drydown is classy and smooth, albeit a bit unusual and unique. Certainly worth a try.

Dunhill London by Alfred Dunhill

This one isn't Dunhill's best creation, but certainly isn't their worst either. It does give you the impression that you've smelled it a few times before but it is a nice, clean, slightly classy smell. Lack of originality and longevity will only get this frag a neutral though.

Mister by Jasper Conran

Not sure of the notes in this one but it certainly is bold and unique. It is remeniscent of something old (not in a bad way) which I can't quite put my finger on. It is definately for the older generation and has to be tested first rather than as a blind buy.

DKNY Red Delicious Men by Donna Karan

I don't like many synthetic scents but this is one of the exceptions. The sweet and liquor notes are inviting, having decent longevity and sillage.

Hoggar by Yves Rocher

I wanted to love this scent but simply couldn't. It has a note that makes me feel a bit sick, too gingery. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a bad smell but is a bit too much after a while of wearing it. I recommend Désir de Rochas pour Homme, which seems to have perfected the undesirable note that this scent posesses.

Désir de Rochas pour Homme by Rochas

To my nose, an updated, improved version of Rocher's Hoggar without so much of the ginger/cake smell. This scent has to be tried to be appreciated.

Bulgari pour Homme Soir by Bulgari

A very original upper-class scent. It should be for evening use, maybe a date, as it does impress.
15 July 2008

Black by Kenneth Cole

This scent oozes class, even with new additions to my collection I find myself returning to this one. I find it clean and fresh, decent longevity and well made.

Royal Secret for Men by Royal Secret

Disregarded testing this due to the ancient looking box. Managed to get this at a bargain price and was pleasantly surprised. It smells a bit old but not like an old person would. It is quite sweet and would best suit the older generation.

Intimately Beckham Night Men by Beckham

This bears little resemblance to the original Intimately Beckham, but more to the great Obsession Night. This is not neccesarily a bad thing, I just see no need in having both. I would opt for Beckham Night over Obsession Night due to better longevity.

Wings for Men by Wings

Smells to me like a more aquatic version of Polo Sport (which I don't like) Nothing special here.

Amitabh B pour Homme by Amitabh Bachchan

A nice scent, but poor longetivity and nothing to set it apart from the uhndreds of other mediocre scents that were made to make a quick buck.

Salvatore Ferragamo pour Homme by Salvatore Ferragamo

The initial blast of spiciness overcomes you and seems too much going on at once. This soon dies down to a spice rack smell. This unpleasantness continues for about 20 minutes but then transforms into a nice subtle spicy aroma. Does not sit too well on it's own, but layered with other scents can prove interesting.

Hypnôse Homme by Lancôme

Very sweet and quite sickly at first, although the drydown gets better. On the same line as Ghost Man but more subtle. Not overly impressed.

Impact Aftershave by Charles Worthington

A nice smelling scent that has virtually no lasting power. If this was available in a longer lasting spray version it would have a place amongst my collection.

Lacoste Elegance by Lacoste

After not being impressed with the 'play' fragrances, I thought they might have learnt their lesson and produce a classic fragrance. Well it was certainly a classic mistake anyway. It is very sickly and gives me a headache after a few minutes. I would recommend Lacoste Pour Homme which is their best creation to date.

Calum by Calum Best

Without reading any reviews about this fragrance I bought it as a blind buy at a bargain price (and I can never resist a bargain even if I have no idea about a scent). I was pleasantly surprised. It is quite a floral scent, but it has quite a musky accord (vanilla, amber) to it also, that saves it from smelling unisex. Would probably recommend for the younger generation for an informal occasion if you are into floral scents.

Austin Reed for Him by Austin Reed

A very creamy scent quite similar to Diesel Plus Plus (White Bottle). Haven't smelled Allure so can't compare there. Classy, and not too expensive.

Balenciaga pour Homme by Balenciaga

Smells very much like Kouros. Very unpleasant to start, the nauseating smell does die down very quickly to almost nothing.

Safari for Men by Ralph Lauren

Wow, I'm impressed. This starts off exactly like the old Burberry London, but this quickly fades and leaves a strong masculine scent that has great staying power. Took a chance on this one and thought for it's age it may be yet another older scent that smells like old people, but it shocked me and I've fallen in love!

Ungaro III by Ungaro

Got this due to the reviews on basenotes and was not disappointed. A surprisingly masculine floral. Has a lot of depth, very classy. Can't wait to try the other scents in the Ungaro range!
16 June 2007

Armani Mania by Giorgio Armani

Poor longetivity and nothing superior or unique about this scent. Although it is pleasant it doesn't project well and doesn't stand out so it's a diappointing buy.

Boss Selection by Hugo Boss

In my opinion Hugo Boss' best creation to date (although I have not yet sampled the 80's frags or Soul yet). It is very unique as have not come across a similar scent. It is a sweet frag that has a hint of almond/marzipan??? An older person's scent that can't really offend.

After the unpleasant initial blast, this fragrance develops into a nice subtle smell. Nothing ground-breaking, but it is a fragrance I welcome into my collection.

Black XS by Paco Rabanne

Smells like strawberry and cream sweets to me. Very fruity and quite feminine for a supposed masculine scent. I haven't smelt anything quite like this, and although I wouldn't purchase this it is quite pleasant.

Nightflight by Joop!

A very clean and aquatic scent. You could picture yourself near a harbor on a starry night wearing this. There is nothing extra special with this one, but it very nice, and I don't think it can be disliked, even if it doesn't break any boundaries.

Ferrari Black by Ferrari

This has been said before but it really does smell like Boss Bottled, not as sweet though. Nice scent recommended for older men.

Pi by Givenchy

Way too sweet for my taste. Not a big fan of vanilla or caramel and it has both blended in and hits you straight away. The vanilla seems to stay there, even in the drydown and gives me a headache after a while.

Baldessarini by Baldessarini

A lovely sophisticated smelling fragrance. I think it is more for the middle aged business man but even though I'm in my 20's I still love it. It is quite expensive considering it's not groundbreaking, and it won't last as long as some, but for that while, you just can't stop smelling your wrist.

Prada Amber pour Homme by Prada

It took a couple of times smelling my wrist to really appreciate this scent. I admit at first it does just smell like soap but after a while it grows on you, and you start to realise it is a really fresh, clean scent that doesn't really stand out, but makes you feel rejuvinated and cleansed. This scent would not take top priority on my scent shelf but it would be used when I don't want to stand out too much and have that 'just come out of the shower feel'.
18 January 2007

Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent

This scent definately is manly but so much so that it reminds me of an old mans house. This one lingered on my skin and made me nauseous whenever i smelt my wrist in the hope that the drydown might give it some hope... but it didn't. The scent after repeated smell tests over the hour I beared it on my skin failed to win me over and remains in the back of my wardrobe with all the other reject scents that failed to make the grade.

Silver Shadow by Davidoff

A sweet smelling sophisticated fragrance. Seems directed at the older generation with a classy smell. Quite a long lasting and mysterious fragrance.

Surrender for Him by Avon

One of my favourites. Nice sweet smell that would be great for a good mood occasion. A unique smell, doesn't overpower you but is quite long lasting, and also cheap as it's from Avon!
02 December 2006

Rush for Men by Gucci

After trying the classic Gucci Pour Homme for men I decided to see what else Gucci had to offer and gave this one a go. I was very disappointed. It overpowers you with a woody/leaves autumn smell that I couldn't get off my clothes. You have been warned.

Very Irrésistible for Men by Givenchy

This is the first and last Givenchy fragrance I am going to try. It is way too minty and resembles 'After Eight' mints, if you've tried them you'll know what I mean. Overall a very sickly product that smells like it should have been a confectionary product.
