Helmut Lang Woman by Helmut Lang

The scent of licorice is so overwhelming and otherworldly that I relish Helmut Lang when I decide to wear it. I’ve selected the word “when” because for as in love as I am with this scent, I cannot possibly put it on everyday. At work, I found the scent cloying, taking on a perfumed funk as my day progressed. If you work in an uptight environment, Helmut Lang Parfum is definitely going to freak-out your co-workers…on second thought, maybe that’s what you’re looking to do. However, Helmut Lang Parfum wears a different mask in the evening hours; the perfect scent for daring behavior at sundown or seeking out thrills on the back of a motorcycle or just a wonderful fragrance for a beautifully cool and breezy night of art gallery openings.

Habit Rouge by Guerlain

I picked up my Habit by accident in 1985. I was in NY; I think I was shopping in Barney’s, but I’m not sure. At the time, HR came in the flacon with the funky cap that Guerlain Vetiver used to come in as well. At the time I wore vintage clothes. How appropriate. HR really is a vintage scent that is emblematic of its 1965 launch date. To this day when I open the cap and breathe in the essence of HR, I feel like I’ve stepped into the past and into another man’s closet, which is truly what I like best about it. I feel like a kid who has put on his Grandfather’s “grown-up” cologne. I adore the HR dry down and the different dimensions it takes on throughout the day. HR is so different from today’s scents that it literally leaves people baffled in it’s wake. Astounding!

Eau de Cartier Concentrée by Cartier

One breath of EDC Concentreè will literally cast a spell on willing victims. I should know…I’ve been under the power of this formula for quite some time. After 2 years, I’ve just now taken a break from wearing and obsessing over EDC…and when I say “cast a spell,” I mean that quite honestly. I’ve been followed by women and men on subways, on the streets, at the beach, the theatre, sitting by the pool, walking the dog…all wanting to know one thing…what potion did I have on that was causing them to lose control of their senses? It’s a very heady trip. I do understand that many of the Cartier fragrances lack depth. However, the people’s olfactory senses have spoken on this one. It’s a truly unique scent that gives unexpected pleasure beyond one’s wildest visions.
