Yatagan by Caron
You can only admire this. I can imagine some people getting offended by it, but to be honest if your the sort of person who wears yatagan chances are you couldn't care less. Unbelievably dense. Completely the opposite to the modern girlish clean/fresh scents. For that reason alone it makes me smile & gets the thumbs up, although perhaps it isn't quite a masterpiece. Maybe this one should be called the anarchist..

Number 3 / Le 3me Homme / The Third Man by Caron
Simply outstanding. I normally don't do vanilla, but this is so so well done. Although I admire Yatagan, this is easily more wearable. Very gentlemanly, powerful & warm.. soothing but strong at the same time. when the sample runs out & I have the cash I may have to purchase this one.

Live Jazz by Yves Saint Laurent
A favourite casual for hot weather. Corriander (cilantro) is definately the main player in this, and although it's a warming, somehow buzzing note, it mixes with the other grapefruit/lemon/mint notes to make this a cool yet masculine accord.

Gucci pour Homme by Gucci
Don't wear so much these days.. but this is fantastic nonetheless. Has a personal significance for me as THE scent that opened my eyes to that fact that there was a world of scents for men out there that didn't conform to the sweet, aquatic/floral fresh trend that is prevalent in the mass market. Spicey, musty, woody, incense, ancient somehow.. all things I love. On the donwside the longevity isn't great, But it's worth it for the sheer pleasure of giving yourself a few blasts of this then stepping out into a frosty winters day. I'll always keep a bottle on my shelf as long as it's continued. And WHAT a bottle, I have to say, fantastic chunky design.

Antaeus by Chanel
Another positive review to add to the many below. Infact over time this is becoming one of the best fragrances I own, albeit not one to be used in all situations. To me it seems to suit night time & formal clothing better (although I do wear it to the office). Antaeus has a powdery quality initially, that I found I didn't care for.. Once I'm past that though, I am in awe. Leather base & what seems like a faint honey floating on top. Antaeus is one that envelops you in an aura that is serious, refined, masculine & powerfull.

No. 88 by Czech & Speake
As I was up the west end yesterday, I thought it would be rude not to drop by C&S's little shop in Jermyn St & give this one a go.
Starts off with bright lemon/bergamot, then quickly settles down into a quality rose scent (you can almost smell the dew on the rose)with all sorts going on in the background. To me the Rose is dominant throughout this scent, beginning to end. It reminded me immediately of the rose water they make in the mountains of Iran & brought back memories of my travels out there quite a few years ago. What I was impressed by most about this is how jaw droppingly well it's crafted. At first you can be forgiven for thinking the genius of it is it's simplicity, but think again. The real thing to admire is how well the basenotes interract with the Rose, enriching or deepening, changing your impression about what you initially thought was a bright floral. Maybe it's this aspect which has caused some people to label this a bit "evil" or "morbid". There is also a distinct lack of sweetness, again unusual for a floral.
The downside with this is that it's quite difficult to pull off as a wearer in my opinion. It's too aristocratic for everyday use, surely. Maybe there is also a part of me not wanting to wear floral notes in public, I tend to go for very masculine cologne. I purchased a bottle, but get the feeling it will be used for personal enjoyment & days spent in solitude, rather than going out or socialising.

M7 by Yves Saint Laurent
I almost never comment on another mans aftershave, but while rather drunk at a club I became aware of a very strong, woodish, unusual fragrance. Fantastically different to all the usual stuff you are bombarded with in a club. I had to ask what it is. I was amazed to hear it was YSL M7. Amazed because I had tested it previously on a testing card, & while I found it very good it seemed a bit sweet for me. Needless to say, I changed my mind & made I purchase I've never regretted.
A dark, thick fragrance. Interestingly it has elements of being suave & sophisticated, mixed with being slightly dangerous & alarming. Undoubtledly pure class.

Rive Gauche pour Homme by Yves Saint Laurent
My initial reaction to that was that, like others have mentioned, it smells like shaving foam! Why would someone wear cologne that smells like that? Not only that but I found it overpoweringly strong to start with as in my ignorace I'd sprayed far too much. Seeing as I got this on the cheap though, I decided to give it another try at work today. Noting how strong it was before, I applied only 1 spray. Moderation seems to be the key, a few hours in as this began to mellow, I finally "got" this. It turns into what I personally find a very creamy, almost edible scent that is unbelievably addictive. Sprayed a single spray at 7 this morning, its 6pm now & I'm still getting subtle wafts of this gorgeous stuff. try this before you buy because this IS different to most fragrances out there, but for me this is definately a thumbs up.

Rush for Men by Gucci
I was bought this as a xmas present a couple of years back & enjoyed it very much. Has quite a jagged opening, very dry and wooden smelling. Downside is that it doesn't last very long at all on me, and also seems quite hard to find now - is it out of production?

Prada Amber pour Homme by Prada
Bit of a dissapointment, as Prada clothes for men are classy understated & masculine. This fragrace is very feminie though, to my taste. I'll probably give this away to my sister. May suit a metrosexual I suppose, but this is not my cup of tea.
