Soir d'Orient by Maître Parfumeur et Gantier

If you have not found out yet, this fragrance was a limited edition released in two very small exclusive batches; one in the middle east and one in the boutique in Paris. You can say it is a flanker of Ambre Precieux. At least 1 out of 3 reviews I've read about it, and surprisingly it is reviewed a lot for such a hard to find fragrance, people have complained that it's identical to Ambre Precieux after the top notes are gone. As a person who holds Ambre Precieux as his favorite fragrance, and my nose has been familiarized with through several years, I can say that is Not the case.

Soir d'Orient opens with a stunning high quality animalic oud note for the first few minutes, the aoud slowly morphs into a more medicinal oud until it settles into the leathery middle notes about 20 minutes later. The middle of this fragrance is Leather, Leather and more leather. The leather here has a warm, grandparent room vibe to it. A couple of hours later the dry down, which is almost identical to Ambre Precieux, settles; Beautiful Sandalwood, Vanilla, Amber, with several spicy/herbal notes. It also attains Ambre Precieux very soft, creamy feeling. I am sure many people wouldn't understand from reading reviews of Ambre Precieux how it can be creamy, but it is. And all of the Ambre Precieux qualities are present throughout the life of the fragrance, but it definitely does not smell identical to it.

    But here comes my complaint about this fragrance;
The top notes: Magical, sexy, addictive, animalic, just as PigeonMurderer described it "Intoxicating". One of the best high quality ouds I have smelt in my life, and I have tried quite a few being a middle eastern.

The middle notes: Soft, animalic leather, old person room vibe (in a good way). It's nice, but here's where the fragrance gets ruined for me, it is pleasant, but not something I see myself wearing, nor do I enjoy it, unless I want to be reminded of my gone grandmother. The leather notes last a good 6 hours.

The Basenotes: Ambre Precieux with traces of the leather.

This fragrance would be the perfect perfume for me, my holy grail if you may, if the oud notes were more prominent, And if the leather was toned down or completely gone. But for now, I'll search for a similar Aoud and layer it with Ambre Precieux, as hard as that may be. I can only hope MPG will create a strong oud fragrance, instead of this 10 minutes teaser.

As much as I was frustrated with this experience, this is still an all around good fragrance, final rating of: 8/10

If you find a bottle of this fragrance, grab it. It's not for everyone, but it's still too good to have been as limited.

L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme by Guerlain

I first sampled this cologne only a few months after I started getting into fragrances and I hated it. I was primarily using Versace Eau Fraiche and Allure Sport at the time and this was like a complete polar opposite from what I wanted.

About a month ago I decided to get a small bottle of this for the hell of it. After experiencing several other scents over time, I thought this might be a good change of pace. Although the scent itself is fairly appealing, it still smells a little too mature for my taste. I say if you're in your early 20's, give it a shot. If you're 25 and up? Perfect.

Definitely a classy, luxurious scent. This is something I would wear with a suit or if I were to dress up nicely.

    Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford

To me, this is a really huge fragrance -- in an abstract way, the male version of Poison in that you wear it when you want to make an impact.

I can smell it on someone the moment they step into a room, which is why I have an interesting relationship with it: I absolutely love to smell it on myself, but on others I find it cloyingly overpowering.

I also find this fun to let people smell in the bottle and ask them what it reminds them of: Almost everyone always says it smells like cocaine, which always makes me associate it with the "Big 80s" feel of something like Poison (even though its smells NOTHING like Poison).

Opium pour Homme Eau de Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent

I don't know if people around me likes it or not, but i feel great wearing this. It lasts and has a great sillage, it's one of the few frags that i wear and i can smell all night long. It's toxic and well put together. A great member of the YSL family.

I started at YSL with La Nuit de L'Homme and i love it, but now it feels like Opium edp's little brother. Big Thumbs up for this one

Body Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent

I will preface this by saying that before trying Body Kouros I had
    a) heard a TON of hype about it
    b) had tried Kouros and HATED it

With that said, this fragrance did NOT live up to most of my expectations, and not all in a bad way. First off like others said, it's absolutely nothing like regular Kouros (which I find vile). This is more of a yonger, modern licorice scent, many think similar to Lolita Limpicka (not so much me, I think this is better). Seems more suited to a younger guy (def. under 30) in my estimation. Even though I exceed the age limit, I wear it occassionally when going out on the town in a less formal setting or a younger crowd.

All in all, good, but not the home run I was thinking it would be. Very luke-warm thumbs up.

    Bois du Portugal by Creed

A real great scent. Classy, sophisticated. Kind of a spice meets cedar wood. The two knocks I hear on it are "it's a old man scent" and "not wearable". I think the "old man" complaint is a little over-stated. I'm in my mid-30's and I feel completely at ease in it. In my mind, it's more classic and timeless than old.

The wearability knock, I can agree somewhat, as I think it's best used in a formal setting and it's best seasons are cold weather ones. To me this would be the perfect scent to wear to a winter wedding or work Christmas party.

Absolutely worth at least a sampling.

    Bulgari pour Homme by Bulgari

Nice, classy scent. Very clean smelling tea/soap kind of vibe. I don't find the longevity as bad as others do with this nor Soir (which I prefer even more), just that they lay close to the skin.

Think this would be a great, warm wather scent, especially suitable for the office or a young professional type.

Perhaps not spectacular, but very solid, in a reserved understated kind of way. Worth a sample.

    Mugler Cologne by Thierry Mugler

Clean and soapy, reminds me of a younger, more hip version of 4711. Didn't get the longevity that other reviews have experienced. Defintely a "summer time/warm weather scent only" to my nose.

Would never buy it for myself, but if gotten for a gift I would wear it occasionally.

    Tangerine Vert by Miller Harris

I would concur with the reviewer that said it reminded them of an orange soda....I know this is tangerine, but to me it had that same fake "not-so-good-for-you" smell to it. From a quality standpoint, I don't think it compares to Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte, although from my one sampling it did have slightly better longevity (not saying much as the former's is horrible)

This would be a never buy for me as it's not really my type of scent, nor does it seem best in class. That said, it wasn't completely awful, so I'll give it a neutral

Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme by Dolce & Gabbana

Smells like a gas station bathroom – cheap smelling lemon cleaning product mixed with musty (yes, not musky, but musty) tobacco. I felt like a hobo who washes up in Petrol Station bathrooms when I sprayed this on, and I felt bad for anyone who was forced to smell me. Don't know what the people who wrote positive reviews about this were smoking when they sampled, or if they bought it blind and are trying to persuade themselves to like it.

Bal à Versailles by Jean Desprez

I got a bottle of vintage Eau de Cologne which I decanted into a little spray bottle.
Upon first spray, BaV smells very dirty, pungent, indolic and animalic. It makes me think of a dog or a dirty cage.
As soon as the dog note calms down; rich orange flower, honey and musk take stage. The scent melts into the skin and I am left with a gorgeous golden halo that is comforting yet sexxxy at the same time.
The name is more than fitting. BaV is a decadent beauty that will not appeal for the masses in this era of scrubbed-clean detergent smell alikes. I like my scents more dirty than clean.
I think this can easily be worn by a man too.

Pine! And lots of spice. I can see why this one may be considered a classic by some reviewers. But, it is a bit too predictable. Nothing really exciting about this one. Would be good to have mixed in a bit more leather into the fray but it is what it is. Pleasant and refreshing. An OK fragrance.

    Aigues Vives by Galimard

    Aigues Vives:

I recently made a blind purchase of a bottle of Aigues Vives based on the previous review here that compared it to Dior’s Eau Sauvage, a long time favorite of mine. What a fortuitous decision. This juice is wonderful!

Tifone is correct to compare Aigues Vives to Eau Sauvage, as they have much in common. I’d say that AV is what one would get if one set out to recreate ES using only natural essences and traditional techniques. The overall initial impression I have of AV is of a fragrance that is slightly more citrus in its opening than ES, with a noticeably more pronounced lime note and a generally warmer, more harmonious feel. It is as the heart notes develop that I detect the greatest difference in the two fragrances, as the ES has a sparkling quality that I attribute to its hedione note , whereas the AV unveils a subtle spiciness that the Basenotes triangle attributes to cinnamon, but which the Galiard site gives as coriander; I think there might be both. But it is when the base notes appear that this beauty really shines. AV has an amazing fruitiness in its base that is unlike any other I’ve yet encountered: warm, sweet, understated, almost moist—like mulled wine. Very unique and beautiful.

I also must comment on AV’s citrus notes. This fragrance has the longest lasting citrus notes I’ve ever found. Being very volatile, the citrus accords are usually the most fleeting in any fragrance. Not so in AV. I have no idea how Galimard manages it, but I’ve been able to detect that lovely lime note on my skin hours after I’ve applied it. I suspect it is partially because this is an EdP instead of the more usual men’s fragrance strength EdT.

I’m not sure how Galimard has escaped the notice of the wider world for so long—according to their website they are the oldest perfumery in the world—but if AV is any indication of their abilities then they are a house that really deserves much more of our attention.

Acqua di Giò pour Homme by Giorgio Armani

Finaly tried this out !!! And after trying it Id have to say its nice but why on earth is this the most bought mens cologne, lol ? To me its a nice subtle smell that cuts through without being overpowering but its really only OK at best. And there is so many better colognes out there for much better prices... But to describe the smell now... HMMM.... The opening is like a sour lemon-lime smell similar to 7up mixed with musk(the musk to me is the best part of the fragrance) and it smells pretty linear throughout but the farther you have it on the lemony-lime smell fades and the musk takes over...

    Ratings varying from 1-10:
    SMELL: 7
    Projection:7
    Longevity:7 (I get anywhere from 5-8 hours)
    Overall Rating: 7

BEST TIMES TO USE THIS: School,Work, Could use as a club scent but theres better colognes out there for clubbing in my opinion, and just goin out whenever... Also can be worn any season of the year although spring and summer would be best
AGE RANGE: I believe anyone could wear this really

All in all a decent scent but im only giving it a neutral rating based on the price, its popularity, and its nice smelling but its unoriginal and nothing to brag about

L'Eau D'Issey pour Homme by Issey Miyake

One word to describe this fragrance....BEAUTIFUL !!! I blind bought this and this is now my favorite fragrance of all time.. Its simply amazing and matches my personality very well I think.... But when I 1st sprayed this I thought wow this is pungent,lol... Which is why you should never judge a cologne by its opening.. And I say this because this has a very weird type of lemon smell when you first spray this but once it dries down its truly a work of art... The heart of this is really floral with lemon in the background but then you get to the best part which is the drydown...And Its like the floral you get in the heart only its creamier, smoother and so soothing. By far my favorite scent of all time ... I saw a reviewer below me describe this as a breath of fresh air and that reviewer couldnt be more right.... This reminds me of a state of utter peace and tranquility... So deffinitly a MUST BUY !!!

    Ratings: ranging from 1-10

Smell:9.5 (would give it a 10 but the beginning is a bit rough for me )
Projection:7.5 (This isnt a projection monster but people will smell this if they walk near you)
Longevity:9 (This last me anywhere from 8-12 hours)
    Overall Rating: 9

    Age Range:18-30

Best times to use: Casual use mostly... School,Work,Going out and can be used in any season... not really bold enough in my opinion for a date or clubbing

    Voyage by Nautica

I got this fragrance because I have yet to find a nice aquatic scent to use for work and was hoping this would fit the bill.... WELL,lol.... The PROS: of this fragrance are that it has good sillage and projection, as well as longevity(3 sprays last me anywhere from 10-12 hours) and its a scent that is enough to get noticed but not too strong and this smells pretty decent for the first hour or so... Now to the CONS: The heart smells like cheaply made, soapy, sour smelling fabric softener and the drydown is the same with a little musk added to it...And dont get me wrong I like soapy scents but this just does it the wrong way for me and you get what you pay for really(which is a generic piece of ****).... Maybe its just my body chemistry but this did not only not cut it but its now the worst smelling cologne I have in my collection next ANGEL ICE MEN

    L'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent

Im still new to fragrances and wanted to add a masculine floral to my collection and saw decent reviews for this 1 so decided to give it a shot... SO... I blind bought this 1 and ya win some ya lose some they say right ? HAHA, Well this time I got a BIG win because this was EXACTLY what I was looking for.. At 1st I was having some second guesses despite the good reviews just for the fact that this had ginger and im not a big fan of ginger... I must say though that the ginger note is done well in this and its a must have for sure... To me its kind of hard to describe what this smells like but it starts out fresh, floral, with that ginger note slightly in the background and as the fragrance progresses the ginger kicks in more making the smell you get in the beginning warmer smelling, inviting, and a tad spicier.. (the drydown to me smells like gingerbread cookies, lol) Also this is a favorite of the ladies... But ive noticed only women that are 21 and above seem to dig this... So if your looking to attract a younger crowd you may want to look elsewhere

Burberry London for Men by Burberry

A true Classic !!! This scent to me smells like a brilliant blend of Pine and Cherry if they were to clash... A classic scent that I would love to wear but right now I feel its to mature for me... Prolly my 2nd favorite scent though next to L'eau D'Issey !!!

    Rating: ranging from 1-10
    Smell: 9.25
    Projection:10
This has perfect projection for the first 2 hours not too overpowering but you deffinitly get a smell of someone wearing this when there near) but then dies down and stays close to the skin after the 2 hour period
Longevity: 6.5 ( I get anywhere from 2-6 hours with this) so time varies a lot and is unpredictable
Overall Rating:8.75 (I really want to give this a solid 9 but since the longevity is so sketchy I have to give it an 8.75)

    Age Range:25-60

Best Seasons to use in: The perfect fragrance for fall and winter
Best uses: I see this as a good going out fragrance, but can also be used for intimate settings and formal occasions such as church, dates, and formal dinners

THUMBS DOWN for sure !!! This is by far the worst smelling scent... I got this cologne when I was first gettin into colognes and heard great things about the Thierry Mugler house but I wasnt ready for the gourmands yet and saw Angel ICE MEN thinking... Ive heard great things about this brand and with a name like ICE MEN this has got to be a great aquatic scent... Well it is a summer fragrance I can tell that for sure but this IS NOT FOR THE YOUNGER CROWD and smells like a fragrance someone ages 45 and up would wear.. Now to the smell. Smells like Vicks Vaporub with some coffee and nutmeg... As for a rating id give it a 2 out of 10... This is 1 of those scents that old people wear that you never forget... But not in a good way... IM only keeping this because the bottle looks badass !!! Which too me is the only good thing about this, lol

I loved the original L'homme so decided to try this 1 on for size... and to me it smells like the original but not as fresh and more masculine with a slight chocolate smell in the drydown... Personaly I like the orginal better but this 1 is really good to... Also before I forget, La Nuit has better projection and longevity (lasts 6-10 hours for me) than the original so if those were issues for you with L'Homme but you loved the smell of the original... In my opinion this really is the perfect clubbing fragrance. It's inoffensive and the girls love it! It's not to versitile. I'd advice this out to the club or on a date. The opening might come across as to sweet but after 20 to 30 mins it dries down to a more "mature" version of the opening. Still sweet but with a more heavy touch that comes across more masculine. The scent does'nt change much after that only the sweetness goes to the background (only a bit though). I'm not to shure about the longevity. I've had 5 to 9 hours in cold weather.

This is how I enjoyd the fragrance. I can see that people who are not to fond of sweet scent but if you do, you should give it a go ;-)
